DeMaria, United Technologies Research Center, East Hartford, CT. A new concept for a high-speed ( MHz), wide angle( k 20°), two dimensional laser beam scanner has been developed. LEOPARD is an optical analogue of the microwave phased array radar and is based on the electro-optic effect in epitaxially grown semiconductor AlGaAs layers. Beam steering has been demonstrated using a three element LEOPARD. Supported in part by US. The analog of the ABCD matrix for Gaussian beams (a dispersion matrix), is used to analyze the propagation of achirped Gaussian pulse arising from a gain-switched DFBLD.
