Various measures and evacuation drills are under way for evacuation of vulnerable people, and when evacuating, it is often decided who will support the evacuation of the vulnerable people. However, there is a need for a mindset that anyone can become an evacuation supporter because there is a possibility that it will not go as set in the actual situation. Therefore, in this study, in order to enable more efficient evacuation of wheelchairs, we measured the evacuation speed and observed an evacuation drill conducted in Nakatosa Town, and examined them separately in 4 phases: preparation, evacuation start time, evacuation action time, and evacuation spare time. As a result, factors to be reflected in evacuation drill and assistance action types for wheelchair evacuation were derived. By incorporating the verification used in this study into the tsunami evacuation plan, we hope to contribute to reducing human damage, including those who vulnerable people and their supporters.
","PeriodicalId":42793,"journal":{"name":"Japan Architectural Review","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/2475-8876.12390","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45566677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yamaguchi's standards for backstreets and alleys have also affected the urbanization process. Such standards allowed for adaptation in specific conditions, and variations in application. By comparing the marginal effects of social prescriptions on those with four types of isolation and loneliness status through the discrete choice model, we discovered that social prescriptions that contribute to the prevention of isolation and loneliness differ according to individuals by isolation and loneliness status. For example, for those who are not isolated but lonely, an effective strategy would be to encourage involvement in social contribution activities in the community and form high-quality human relationships expecting to alleviate loneliness. The results also showed that residents in isolated situations tend to be indifferent to social contribution activities and social prescriptions to encourage involvement in such activities have limitations.
","PeriodicalId":42793,"journal":{"name":"Japan Architectural Review","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/2475-8876.12389","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42040192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under the influence of shiyin, private gardens were constructed within the city. The urban spatial distribution features of 38 private gardens were analyzed through space syntax and related methods. The results show that (1) locationally, the private gardens were located more in main functional areas instead of suburban areas, and (2) structurally, the urban private gardens were integrated globally and separated locally in the urban space system. Combined with the discussion of shiyin, the results show that the reclusion aspect of shiyin is not related to the location distribution of urban private gardens, but is reflected more at the structural level, with urban private gardens locally separated from urban space systems. This study provides a new perspective to discuss urban private gardens in terms of urban space and suggests a focus on local structural features of private gardens at the medium and micro level of urban space (such as streets and blocks).
","PeriodicalId":42793,"journal":{"name":"Japan Architectural Review","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/2475-8876.12386","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"50117482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, in light of the COVID-19 impact, natural ventilation is gaining prominence as an increasingly vital technology. However, it is crucial to address potential challenges associated with natural ventilation, particularly its impact on the indoor thermal environment. This study aimed to examine and offer insights into natural ventilation design and operational strategies for office buildings. We initially summarized the criteria and effective opening area of natural ventilation openings (αAi) in Japanese naturally ventilated buildings. Among the 37 investigated office buildings, we found a positive correlation between the natural ventilation room area and the αAi. Approximately, 25 buildings maintained a ratio of αAi to the natural ventilation room area ranging from 0.1%–0.5%. Additionally, we conducted measurements of the indoor thermal environment, focusing on the opening ratio of natural ventilation openings. The difference of indoor and outdoor temperature showed a strong negative correlation with the opening ratio, while wind direction and global solar radiation exhibited significant correlations as well. These research findings provide valuable insights for future natural ventilation designs and the incorporation of opening ratio concepts into operational methods.
","PeriodicalId":42793,"journal":{"name":"Japan Architectural Review","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/2475-8876.12381","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49208188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
