A selection of his compositions was accompanied by Ambrosius Lobwasser’s German translations. To ensure that the translated texts matched the music, occasional rhythmic changes were made, while the pitches were kept in tact. In the nineteenth-century search for Sweelinck’s musical heritage, the Berlin editions were found earlier than the original ones; therefore, the two new reconstructions of Sweelinck’s psalm arrangements published in 1876 and 1883 were based on these Berlin editions. Shortly thereafter, the part-books with the original texts were found in England. Since then, little note has been taken of the Berlin editions, but their history deserves our attention.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"9 1","pages":"90-127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86795882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article examines particular strategies in portraying the Queen’s reception in Rome and her conversion within the allegorical plot of the opera La vita humana (written by Giulio Rospigliosi and Marco Marazzoli), performed in 1656 in Rome in the Queen’s honor, and offers a new interpretation of the allegory and possible parallels to her visit. In this sense, the opera’s character Intendimento can be seen as a possible personification of the Jesuit discourse responsible for her conversion.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"4 1","pages":"281-298"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87848619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Director of the Royal Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments, his ideas are epitomized in his Musikalische Bilder aus Deutschlands Vergangenheit , staged at the Krolloper (Berlin) in 1912, and presents the history of music as a continuum from 1500 B.C. to the Reformation. At the center of his highly speculative interpretations—mostly rejected by experts but broadly accepted by the extreme right—is the elaboration of an autochthonous Germanic ( germanischen ) music culture with which the German is aligned, and how the Roman Catholic Church posed a threat to it.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"11 1","pages":"49-65"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75451082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various aspects on the visual level are identified that supposedly have a direct influence on a performance’s auditive impression. Indirectly, public relation strategies that focus on star image, such as cover design and biographical narratives, may also influence the way in which a musical interpretation is registered. The aim is to illustrate the potential for insights that an interdisciplinary and methodologically pluralistic approach to interpretation offers.","PeriodicalId":42754,"journal":{"name":"ARCHIV FUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT","volume":"19 1","pages":"314-323"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88153068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"艺术学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the waltz appeared in this new media, although with other purposes-nostalgia being among them.
