However, there are few practical guidelines for conducting individualized transition assessments that include interviews with this population. This article describes multiple strategies that special educators can implement to conduct interviews, develop rapport, and encourage students with EBD to take a leadership role in the transition process. Materials are provided for selecting appropriate interview topics, monitoring the use of strategies, and developing effective questions.","PeriodicalId":42674,"journal":{"name":"Beyond Behavior","volume":"30 1","pages":"148 - 156"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10742956211021394","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48913500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, common staff-level perceptions exist that may interfere with successful implementation, which we refer to as misses. In this article, three types of misses representing common sets of staff concerns for PBIS implementation are discussed: misunderstandings, misapplications, and misalignments of educator philosophies. We discuss common misses, unpack them from the perspective of implementers, and provide suggestions for supporting staff. Common misses in PBIS can be prevented and successfully addressed when they occur through staff engagement, professional development, and implementation support.","PeriodicalId":42674,"journal":{"name":"Beyond Behavior","volume":"30 1","pages":"41 - 50"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/1074295621996874","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44425504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article, using the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI), outlines a framework for teachers to facilitate mathematics instruction and goal attainment relative to in-school and postschool outcomes. The SDLMI’s three phases enable teachers to promote self-directed learning in their students with EBD. These increased opportunities of self-regulated learning can improve students’ in-school and postschool success.","PeriodicalId":42674,"journal":{"name":"Beyond Behavior","volume":"29 1","pages":"162 - 173"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/1074295619871009","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46316883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
