Fog computing is a specialization of the Cloud that promises to overcome the aforementioned limitations by bringing the Cloud closer to end-users. Despite its potential benefits, Fog Computing is still a developing paradigm which demands further research, especially on security and privacy aspects. The complexity of the logic required for processing context information adds another barrier for developing advanced context-aware applications. In this research paper, we propose a solution that allows context information sharing and extension toward the generation of easily accessible specialized context information. The proposed solution allows forming context data providers specialized in certain context types with their own unique services. As a result, the solution provides application developers with new abilities in building apps that utilize intelligent context service with minimum development efforts.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123925959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Connecting such devices to the cloud is not practical due to variable network behavior as well as high latency overheads. Fog computing refers to a scalable, distributed computing architecture which moves computational tasks closer to Edge devices or smart gateways. As an example of mobile IoT scenarios, in robotic deployments, computationally intensive tasks such as run time mapping may be performed on peer robots or smart gateways. Most of these computational tasks involve running optimization algorithms inside compute nodes at run time and taking rapid decisions based on results. In this paper, we incorporate optimization libraries within the Robot Operating System (ROS) deployed on robotic sensor-actuators. Using the ROS based simulation environment Gazebo, we demonstrate case-study scenarios for runtime optimization. The use of optimized distributed computations are shown to provide significant improvement in latency and battery saving for large computational loads. The possibility to perform run time optimization opens up a wide range of use-cases in mobile IoT deployments.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131154034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technology brings computing power to the surrounds of devices, to offer local processing, filtering, storage and analysis of data and control over actuators. Orchestration is a requirement of Fog Computing technology to deliver services, based on the composition of microservices. It must take into consideration the heterogeneity of the IoT environment and device's capabilities and constraints. This heterogeneity requires a different approach for orchestration, be it regarding infrastructure management, node selection and/or service placement. Orchestrations shall be manually or automatically started through event triggers. Also, the Orchestrator must be flexible enough to work in a centralized or distributed fashion. Orchestration is still a hot topic and can be seen in different areas, especially in the Service Oriented Architectures, hardware virtualization, in the Cloud, and in Network Virtualization Function. However, the architecture of these solutions is not enough to handle Fog Requirements, specially Fog's heterogeneity, and dynamics. In this paper, we propose an architecture for Orchestration for the Fog Computing environment. We developed a prototype to prof some concepts. We discuss in this paper the implementation, and the tools chose, and their roles. We end the paper with a discussion on performance indicators and future direction on the evaluation of non-functional aspects of the Architecture.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116563415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One key challenge for edge computing is offering its computing service with a low service blocking and low latency that otherwise translate to an inefficient deployment of a Edge computing system. Unlike cloud computing, the computing resources in edge computing are limited. One way to deal with this limitation is by enabling cooperation between data centers.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121319490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fog Computing provides an architecture to satisfy those requirements through nodes located from near the “things” till the edge. The problem comes with the integration of the Fog nodes into current infrastructures. This process requires the development of complex software solutions and prevents Fog growth. In this paper we propose three innovations to enhance Fog: (i) a new orchestration policy, (ii) the creation of constellations of nodes, and (iii) Fog Function Virtualization (FFV). All together will complement Fog to reach its true potential as a generic scalable platform, running multiple IoT applications simultaneously. Deploying a new service is reduced to the development of the application code, fact that brings the democratization of the Fog Computing paradigm through ease of deployment and cost reduction.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121637933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two major issues are the limitations in terms of latency and network bandwidth. In recent years, the concepts of fog computing and edge computing were proposed to alleviate these limitations by moving data processing capabilities closer to the network edge. Considering IoT growth and development forecasts, we believe the full potential of IoT can, in many cases, only be unlocked by combining cloud, fog and edge computing. This paper discusses four possible approaches for distributing workload among these levels. We also highlight developments and possibilities as well as consider challenges for implementation in the areas of hardware, machine learning, security, privacy and communication.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129618417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We formulate the decentralized data offloading decision making problem as two decentralized data offloading game. We then design two decentralized data offloading mechanisms that can achieve Nash equilibriums of the game: multi-item auction (MIA) based data offloading and congestion game (COG) based data offloading. MIA can maximize the revenue of mobile operator (MO), while COG can minimize the payment of mobile subscribers (MSs). Moreover, both MIA and COG can improve cellular data offloading performance. Numerical results show that the proposed mechanisms can achieve efficient data offloading performance.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125002576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This poses a challenge of making energy available to such devices, regardless of the environment or the circumstances they are into to keep them connected. Solving such a challenge is expected to provide significant degree of flexibility to the coverage planning of the future generations of wireless networks. Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) provides a candidate solution to resolve this problem; which may require a trade off with the available data rate to the device. This paper proposes an innovative trade-off frame-work to avoid any of the data rate compromise, while providing enormous flexibility to facilitate energy to the remotely located devices on demand basis. Such flexibility relaxes the coverage as well as capacity planning constraint in future wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130260112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several authors have proposed data reduction approaches in attempts to enhance the data acquisition and processing phases of the investigation process. Other works have aimed to take advantage of cloud computing's seemingly unlimited resources to leverage investigations. However, such approaches inadvertently affect the credibility of forensic evidence and its admissibility in a court of law, and degrade the efficiency of forensic processes. In this paper, we propose a novel approach which leverages current processes by focusing on augmenting computational and latency capabilities. To achieve this, we motivate a cloudlet-based digital forensic (DF) approach to complement existing cloud computing systems. Based on their proximity to end-devices and remote DF investigation teams, our proposed solution effectively tackles low latency challenges present with the cloud alternative. In addition, configuring the cloudlet solution as the sole custodian of data counters ensures that investigators remain in control of their data, and hence can maintain a comprehensive evidence trail. Finally, have also proposed a cloudlet-based DF resource optimization approach to facilitate upward and downward scaling of resources to cope with a variety of data sizes, multiple devices, and concurrent multiple cases.","PeriodicalId":426271,"journal":{"name":"2017 Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125471432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
