Experiments on two public medical data sets were carried out, in order to find appropriate parameter combinations for different classification problems. The experiments highlight the influence of each parameter and their combinations on the cAnt-Miner2 algorithm, in terms of accuracy, simplicity and computational cost.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127073535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They often fail to cope with real-life scenarios and uncertainty. In this paper we use the proxel-based simulation method to analyze and predict duration of project schedules exhibiting high uncertainty due to typical on-the-fly human decision behavior. The proxel-based simulation is an approximate simulation method that is more precise than discrete-event simulation. To model uncertainty, we introduce a new type of task, state-dependent (floating) task that supports and demonstrates a high degree of uncertainty and depends on various parameters in the schedule. For example, the probability distribution of the duration of a task can change depending on the team that performs it. Thus, this kind of task can be used to model the frequent re-scheduling in a project. We use software development process to illustrate our approach.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114689393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It describes a new class of programming languages that address these problems by allowing abstract specification of incomplete but accurate models and by enabling automated construction of agent-based simulations from models. The primary innovation underlying this approach is the use of property-based types to avoid modeling limitations inherent in the object-oriented paradigm. A property-based approach enables independent validation of constituent models, abstract specification of actors independent of their simulations, and certain modifications to model without revalidation.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122312671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the rapid pace of changes in information technologies, digital data, documents and records are likely to become uninterpretable bit-streams within short periods of time. Digital Preservation deals with the long-term storage, access and maintenance of digital data objects. Preservation experts have proposed an almost overwhelming variety of preservation actions and tools that may help to mitigate this risk but at the same time have disclosed a lack of empirical evidence in the process of informed decision making. In this paper we present the Planets Testbed - a collaborative research environment for scientific experimentation in digital preservation, built in the context of the European Integrated Project Planets. Some system performance, in fact, may vary due to sudden failures or to the occurrence of circumstances unforeseeable deterministically (e.g. failure of the machines, load higher than the expected and inaccuracy in the estimation of parameters). The presence of a robust scheduling algorithm allows to face such perturbations, avoiding degradation of system performance. The paper aims to evaluate the robustness of the Alienated Ant Algorithm, a recently proposed metaheuristic and successfully applied to scheduling in distributed and highly dynamic environments such as Grid, subjecting the algorithm to stress conditions to assess its performance.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134234839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, an improved version of cAnt-Miner (Ant-Miner coping with continuous attributes), called cAnt-Miner2, has been introduced for mining classification rules. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm is presented, combining the cAnt-Miner2 and the mRMR feature selection algorithms. The proposed algorithm was experimentally compared to cAnt-Miner2, using some public medical data sets to demonstrate its functioning. The experiments were very promising and the proposed approach is better in terms of accuracy, simplicity and computational cost than the original cAnt-Miner2 algorithm.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125805314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the perspective of system integration, the autonomy of the sites which are participating in a healthcare network is mostly untouchable. Traditional activity-oriented workflow models or content-oriented workflow models do not provide adequate support in such system environments and workflow scenarios. The objective of the alpha-Flow approach is to enable distributed, ad-hoc process support with initially unknown sets of actors and institutions. In its document-oriented workflow model, electronic documents become active documents and act as software agents as the primary means of coordination. This paper details the healthcare use-case for the alpha-Flow model by the example of cooperative breast-cancer treatment scenarios.","PeriodicalId":426248,"journal":{"name":"2010 19th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116033799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
