It’s triggered by genetic predisposition (human leukocyte antigen alleles such as DQ and DR) or viruses or environmental toxins, and other unknown factors (1,2). These patients are at risk of hyperglycemic complications such as diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic ketoacidosis, and As the efficacy and safety of empagliflozin remain poorly studied in Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients, this narrative-systematic review aims to review it. The randomized controlled trials studying the above across different empagliflozin dosages and placebo got searched in PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases. The database searches yielded 5 eligible trials reporting data of about 1,870 T1DM patients from 45 countries. The empagliflozin dosages tested in these trials were 2.5, 10, and 25 mg. The trials collectively showed a low or unclear risk of bias (Cochrane tool used). The existing double-blinded randomized controlled trials mainly suggest a dose-dependent decrease in glycated hemoglobin, body weight, and total weekly insulin requirement in empagliflozin-treated T1DM patients. Ketoacidosis, urinary tract infection, and study discontinuation due to side effects were rare adverse effects of empagliflozin. Genital infection predominantly occurred among recipients of 10 or 25 mg empagliflozin.","PeriodicalId":425605,"journal":{"name":"The Turkish Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125320490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection has led to a pandemic that has affected the whole world since late 2019. The virus has been reported to cause different extrapulmonary clinical symptoms. Few cases in the literature have reported SAT after COVID-19 viral infection. In this article, 2 cases were diagnosed, where SAT was presented after COVID-19 infection. Using these cases, we aimed to emphasize that patients who present with pain and tenderness in the anterior neck region after COVID-19 infection may develop SAT, whose diagnosis can be missed. Subakut tiroidit (SAT), genellikle bir viral enfeksiyondan sonra ortaya çıkan tiroid bezinin granülomatöz bir tiroiditidir. Koronavirüs hastalığı-2019 [coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] enfeksiyonu, 2019 yılının sonundan beri tüm dünyayı etkileyen bir pandemiye yol açmıştır. Ekstrapulmoner birçok farklı klinik tabloya yol açtığı bildirilmiştir. COVID-19 viral enfeksiyonu sonrasında SAT bildirilen olgular literatürde az sayıdadır. Bu yazıda, COVID-19 enfeksiyonu sonrası SAT tanısı olan 2 olgu sunuldu. Bu olgular ile birlikte COVID-19 enfeksiyonu sonrası özellikle ön boyun bölgesinde ağrı ve hassasiyet gelişen olgularda atlanabilen bir tanı olarak SAT gelişebileceğini vurgulamak istemekteyiz.","PeriodicalId":425605,"journal":{"name":"The Turkish Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114902589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bariatric surgery involves different procedures that can be restrictive, malabsorptive, or a combination of both. Malabsorptive procedures lead to weight loss by intestinal segment bypass that reduces food absorption. Restrictive procedures lead to weight loss by restricting food intake (1). Restrictive procedures include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), and vertical band gastroplasty. Malabsorptive procedures inBariatric surgery is the most effective therapeutic option for long-term weight loss among patients with morbid obesity. Nutrition after bariatric surgery is a very specialized condition. The most severe complications that can develop after bariatric surgery are nutritional deficiencies and the diseases related to them, such as anemia and osteoporosis. Screening associated with nutritional deficiencies should be performed preoperatively to optimize the postoperative outcomes and the nutritional status of patients. Bariatric surgeries such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) reduce nutrient absorption. Moreover, bariatric surgery can exacerbate preexisting nutritional deficiencies. Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery should be followed up for common micronutrient deficiencies and protein-calorie malnutrition. There are gaps in the postoperative follow-up of these patients. This review aimed to focus on the postoperative nutritional strategies and nutritional complications in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery.","PeriodicalId":425605,"journal":{"name":"The Turkish Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134405461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
