Sustainable development and this notion are intimately interconnected, yet they are sometimes mistaken for one another. For many years, people have been engaging in discussions about the concept of a 'sustainable lifestyle' and 'sustainable development,' but have failed to incorporate it into their daily lives. The occurrence of this adaptation is contingent upon our ability to cultivate the practice of sustainable living within our households. Subjects such as Art may provide insights into environmental conservation and promote the use of practices likereusing, recycling, and upcycling materials for artistic endeavors. This study examines the relationship between Art and Design, specifically focusing on how it promotes awareness and facilitates the adoption of sustainable living practices. This project utilizes art-based action research to foster the development of worldwide, transdisciplinary, and culturally sustainable Art Education. Its aim is to transform the mindset of the general public towards sustainable practices. The research used the four-field paradigm to emphasize the diverse and complex function of Indian folk art in both individual and collective artistic pursuits.","PeriodicalId":425253,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"8 35","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141798016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The art of Photography has been used for ages for several purposes such as recording events, taking portraits, sometimes discovering the new world, selling and buying products through advertisement, etc. The advancement in technology has revolutionized the art of clicking pictures into an entirely different skill called ‘Illustrated photography’. This new art has thus transformed ancient photography. Unlike other photographers, professionals here use photos to illustrate any action, story, or any other product in a better form i.e., with some form of visualization that not only makes the product more interesting but also provides customers with a virtual tour of whatever product they are considering for their purchase. Therefore, they are ideally creating a fantastic and more realistic scene that would be impossible to photograph. As a consequence, illustrated photography gained acceptance as it offered all those opportunities that photography couldn’t. As both photography and illustrated photography is a means of visual communication and expression; sharing a common foundation of aesthetics; this study endeavours to understand and study the history, evolution, and characteristics of illustrated photography. Further, it focuses on drawing distinction between photography and illustrated photography along with its emergence. Moreover, the research endeavours to investigate the major illustrators along with the pioneers in the field of illustrated photography with their contributions. The study also attempts to trace the difference in the function of both photographers and illustrators and the contribution of newly skilled illustrators in the field of art and aesthetics.","PeriodicalId":425253,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"2 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141797862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and native influences are all blended together in the art of Bidri, which flourished in the Deccan during the rule of the Bahmani and Baridi Sultanates. Moulding, polishing, designing, engraving, and inlaying are just a few of the eight painstaking steps involved in producing Bidri objects. The deep matte black finish of Bidri art is a distinctive feature that demonstrates a well-balanced fusion of old workmanship and modern artistry. This finish is created using a special combination of alloying, engraving, and oxidizing procedures. Bidriware showcases elaborate patterns, such as calligraphy, geometric shapes, floral motifs, and animal figures, that attest to the superb artistry of local craftspeople. The production of these remarkable works involves several techniques like relief carving, inlaying cut designs, surface crushing, and accurate silver sheet fastening. A Geographical Indication (GI) registry has been obtained by Bidriware, a craft form that is highly valued for its complex artistry and historical significance. This study explores Bidri art's history, cultural significance, and evolution from traditional to contemporary practices. It highlights the unique designs and patterns, the impact of modern technology, and the socio-economic aspects affecting artisans. Achievements and challenges faced by Bidri craftsmen are discussed, providing a holistic view of this traditional art form's past, present, and future.","PeriodicalId":425253,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"66 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141798305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aims to understand Thatrikutty’s strategic deployment of erotic capital, which marked an end to the chastity trial of smarthavicharam within the community. Additionally, it critiques the 1994 Malayalam movie Parinayam, which is based on Thatrikutty’s life, for its lack of portrayal of erotic capital. Employing a qualitative analysis, the study begins with an overview of the condition of Namboodiri women and the concept of smarthavicharam. It then delves into how Thatrikutty used her erotic capital as a weapon against the oppressive system. Subsequently, the article shifts focus to the movie Parinayam, detailing the film’s failure to depict erotic capital. The findings reveal how women can use erotic capital as a powerful weapon to challenge patriarchal oppressions, as exemplified by Thatrikutty’s actions. The study also finds out that the lack of portrayal of erotic capital in the movie Parinayam, accounts to the attempt to suit the movie to societal thoughts, concerning the response of a wide audience.","PeriodicalId":425253,"journal":{"name":"ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts","volume":"76 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141817855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through meticulous research and visual finesse, Ray elucidates Tagore's timeless relevance, weaving together archival footage and dramatic reenactments to present a holistic portrayal of the poet's life and legacy. In his exploration of Sukumar Ray, Satyajit Ray ventures into the whimsical world of children's literature and satire to commemorate the centenary birth anniversary.This paper tries to discuss on documentaries made by Ray with special emphasis on Rabindranath Tagore and Sukumar Ray. Besides reviewing relevant literatures, the researchers have tried to describe two documentaries vividly. In addition to this, they also have taken insightful interviews of three literary and film scholars to understand Ray as documentarian. The interviews were analysed and conclusion have been drawn on the basis of that.
