In the case of severe multipath effects and of fast moving trains the standard methods, based on amplitude time equalization, show large errors. Thus, two methods of using the equalization in the time domain are proposed. For this purpose the signal propagation model describing the situation near the base station is designed. The described methods lead to a better reduction in the amplitude fluctuation of signal, propagating between the base station and the receiver situated on the high speed moving train.","PeriodicalId":424325,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings ELMAR-2014","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128560060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first contribution of this paper is an alternative modification scheme. Second, our previous work, where we use saliency maps in order to guide the macroblock (MB) mode decision during the ratedistortion optimization process, is extended. Modification of the quantizer value on a MB-level is included. It will be shown that this leads to a further improvement and hence outperforms standalone quantizer manipulation schemes.","PeriodicalId":424325,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings ELMAR-2014","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122907083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modulation-averaging, employed as a reflector at the remote node, improves the link margin and allows for a wider range of bias conditions at the transmitter. The modulation-averaging reflector is a passive optical device and therefore the remote nodes in our proposed WDM-PON system remain passive, with no power needed to accomplish this improvement. The suitability of proposed architecture for next-generation optical access is demonstrated by transmission over 60 km at 1.25 GBaud line rate.","PeriodicalId":424325,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings ELMAR-2014","volume":"240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121350646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides an alternative way of signal sampling which is based on a small random set of measurements. The entire signal can be reconstructed from the measurements with high accuracy by using very complex mathematical algorithms if the certain conditions are met. Various algorithms for CS reconstruction have been proposed for different types of signals and different application requirements. In this paper, several commonly used algorithms for one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) signals reconstruction are implemented within the Virtual Instrument for CS signals reconstruction. The Virtual Instrument is a user-friendly tool that provides efficient analysis of signals, using different algorithms and variety of options and parameters. It includes different multimedia test signals (both 1D and 2D signals), but also there is an option for user-defined signals.","PeriodicalId":424325,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings ELMAR-2014","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123309782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite all the innovative methods and practices, feedback continues to be a significant cause of student dissatisfaction. Most studies involving students' access to feedback have relied on what students said they did using surveys, interviews and focus groups. This paper shows how one of MyFeedBack's features was used to investigate whether students do indeed access their feedback. Findings showed that students' access to feedback was not linked to the marks they received. MyFeedBack can be a useful tool to examine students' relationship with their feedback in greater detail.","PeriodicalId":424325,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings ELMAR-2014","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125034785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
