With a view to achieving objective and precise selection and recruitment while keeping up with technological improvement and changes, this paper discusses a fuzzification-based technique for candidate rating and selection. The technique comprises a fuzzy logic component that is an extension of Boolean logic and used for establishing accurate selection process and precise solutions to multi-variable problems. There is a knowledge base component which forms the database of multi-level information and rule base which composes a set of if-then statements for decision making. Its inference engine applies a pre-defined procedure on input from the rule base and fuzzy logic interfaces for final recommendations. The proposed methodology performs pre-defined procedures that are based on some input sets which stores multi-level information derived from several pre-specified scores. Results from the implementation of the proposed technique established its practical function.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"21 1","pages":"1-23"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84398945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Owing to the varying representation of the same knowledge base and the perpetual growth of the World Wide Web, the need to uncover an effective method to condense available textual data without significantly dampening the implied information is paramount. In an attempt to solve the need for effectively condensing textual data, the paper proposes a system which is capable of mimicking the human brain's approach to process Natural Language Fuzzy Logic. The system is subjected to both intrinsic and extrinsic evaluation and the results are compared against two other text summarizers - Auto summarize Tool and SweSum using the CNN Corpus Dataset. The Relevance Prediction Measure, F1 Score and Recall results suggest the applicability of Fuzzy Reasoning in text summarization and through evaluation, it can be inferred that proposed system has successfully tried to mimic the process of summary generation by the human brain.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"1-14"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90661899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is essential to comprise such features in cars that offer qualities enabling the ease of consumer’s decision-making and comfort to purchase a car individually. Purchasing a car is a complicated multi-criteria decision-making problem as an individual may have different preferences for different criteria attributes. The attributes may be conflicting in nature depending on the need of the individual customer. Generally, it becomes quite difficult to assign ratings to these attributes based on numeric values. Therefore, the decision-making process relies on an idiosyncratic finding of the decision-makers which is in practice fuzzy with uncertainities. Hence, this article is a case study that deals with a hierarchy MCDM approach in accordance with the fuzzy logic and VIKOR method to solve a car purchasing problem.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"1-20"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90864749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Portfolio problems are inherently complex, because of the combinatorial explosion in the number of portfolios that can be constructed even from a small number of items. To efficiently construct a set of portfolios that provide good performance in multiple criteria, methods that guide the search process are needed. Such methods require the calculation of bounds to estimate the performance of portfolios that can be obtained from a given partial portfolio. The calculation of such bounds is particularly difficult if interactions between items in the portfolio are possible. In the paper, the authors introduce a method to represent such interactions and develop various bounds that can be used in the presence of interactions. These methods are then tested in a computational study, where they show that the bounds they propose frequently provide a good approximation of actual outcomes, and also analyze specific properties of the problem that influence the approximation quality of the proposed bounds.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"34 1","pages":"50-70"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84196504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Companies that operate in this sector support major economy-driving industries such as civil construction, architecture, medicine, and agriculture and are an input for the manufacture of paints, phosphors, and insecticides, among others. Most of the companies that constitute this sector are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which require supply chain solutions to maintain competition in market share. Supply chain integration as a collaborative solution has become a necessary strategy for enhancing SMEs decision-making capability. This study proposes a conceptual model based on a normative multi-agent system approach that offers a dynamic view about supply chain integration for managers and other stakeholders. From this contribution, it is possible to obtain constant information flow among stakeholders and build an effective strategic context for SMEs in the Brazilian Gypsum Local Productive Arrangement (LPA).","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"13 1","pages":"1-16"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70454734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the authors propose a multicriteria web-based decision support system for resource allocation in higher education organizations. To do so, they define an MCDA/M resource allocation model, based on a project portfolio selection problem to set the percentage of the total budget that every alternative should receive. For the web-based DSS, they develop a database model to store and retrieve data, define the user's interface, and they use a web platform to transform the prototype into a web-based system. Also, they run an empirical analysis with an end-user to test the DSS. They show that the system can provide a clear vision of how the resource allocation system works; the mechanism as a whole becomes more transparent to those involved, enabling them to make efficient and reasonable decisions.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"71-93"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78764813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current research focused on identifying attributes associated with successful PDs as considered by male and female project engineers. In this context, a five-year questionnaire survey collected 423 responses from Greek engineers. The survey recorded data regarding the respondents and the scores assigned to the required PDs attributes. The methodological approach included an SPSS database, followed by descriptive statistics analysis, independent sample t-test, and correlation analysis. It became obvious that gender influences the assessment and selection of desired PD personality characteristics. Female engineers tend to assign the highest Likert scale-based scores, whereas male respondents tend to assign lower scores. The most highly ranked abilities included “responsibility,” “reliability,” and “obedience to rules.” The findings facilitate the implementation of multi-criteria decision-making tools for efficient project teams.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"49 1","pages":"17-32"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78605817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Failure to provide these services is unacceptable. This is a problem when considering the unpredictable nature of the environment (leading to crisis, natural disasters, terrorist attacks) and internal failures. The concern is even greater due to the interconnected and interdependent nature of critical infrastructures, which might lead to failure propagation, causing domino and cascade effects. The resilience of a system is the ability to reduce the magnitude and/or duration of disruptive events or their consequences, allowing a satisfactory level of performance and quality of services. Improving critical infrastructures' resilience before any disruption occurs can reassure society's vital needs. The goal of the paper is to define an improved decision support method for resilience by combining resilience assessment and multi-viewpoint modeling methods.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"34 1","pages":"54-70"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82441650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, there is the need to generate knowledge from information that can guide practice, and in that aspect, decision support systems (DSSs) can contribute to achieving this goal. A DSS can be defined as a computer-based information system that is used to support complex decision-making. The aim of this paper is to present such a DSS focused on the agricultural sector. Its purpose is to be used for the planning of agricultural production and better utilization of a region's available resources. The development of the DSS relies on the classic theory of such tools utilizing MCDM models, databases, and a user interfaces. The proposed DSS was applied in the prefecture of Larissa in Central Greece. The DSS is adaptable to different contexts, and applications of these capabilities are presented at the end of the paper, applied in different regions under additional objectives and/or constraints.","PeriodicalId":42414,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Support System Technology","volume":"3 1","pages":"18-35"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74005202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
