This relationship was investigated experimentally on both new motors, on a vibration stand and on a motor with berating wear. Both theory and experimental results show that a change in the RMS value of the stator current is directly related to the change in vibration magnitude, for a known vibration frequency. The paper shows this result both for a new motor with an externally induced vibration and for a motor with vibration caused by progressive bearing wear.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127277474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the merits and limitations of the constant-frequency (CF) continuous-conduction-mode, CF discontinuous-conduction-mode (DCM), variable-frequency DCM, and zero-voltage-switched DCM flyback power converters with synchronous rectifiers are discussed. The theoretical efficiency improvements of the discussed synchronous rectification approaches relative to Schottky diode implementations are derived. Finally, theoretical results are verified on an experimental, universal-input, offline, 15 V/36 W flyback prototype.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114823374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control scheme combines a variable volt/hertz ratio inverter drive and an average motor current regulation loop to achieve the control of the motor torque-speed characteristics, and consequently control of the air flow rate of the blower which the motor is driving. The controller is simple for implementation and practical for commercialization; it is also reliable since no external pressure or air flow sensor is required. Both theoretical derivation and experimental verification of this control scheme are presented in the paper.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114354472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve such a low height, full custom cores have been used, together with an advanced technology (flex foils) for the windings. This freedom in the selection of dimensions and materials makes the design procedure completely different to the traditional schemes with commercial cores. The process used to obtain an optimum design is described in this paper. It is based on the use of models based on finite element analysis (FEA) tools, and spreadsheets. This procedure has been applied to the design of a transformer and an inductor, with a size of 10/spl times/10/spl times/4 mm/sup 3/ for each, to be used in an onboard power converter in telecommunication systems. Experimental results of a 5 W, low output voltage (3.3 V/spl times/1.5 A) prototype with these magnetic components are included in the paper.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114581092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique takes advantage of a modified Kohonen's competitive layer to calculate the on duration of the adjacent switching state vectors. By using this technique: (a) the hardware and software complexity of the system is reduced; (b) the maximum attainable switching frequency and thus the bandwidth of the control system is increased; and (c) the waveform degradation and parasitic harmonics resulting from inaccurate calculations are avoided. The proposed method is compared to the conventional implementations of SVM techniques in terms of hardware/software requirements, switching frequency, computation time, and harmonic spectra. The method is applied to a DSP controlled 3 kVA unit (voltage source inverter) and experimental results verify the validity of theoretical and simulation results.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"179 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132755280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The converter operates with fixed switching frequency, and with a continuous input current that is sinusoidal and in phase with the input voltage. This is in contrast with most other single-stage converters, which are either resonant converters or must operate with a discontinuous input current. All converter switches operate with soft-switching due to a simple auxiliary circuit that is used for only a small fraction of the switching cycle. In the paper, the operation of the converter is explained and analyzed, and design guidelines are given. The feasibility of the converter is shown with results obtained from an experimental prototype.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133596640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although one dimensional analysis tools have been developed to evaluate winding losses in conductor windings, the additional AC losses due to two dimensional edge effects are quite significant and cannot be predicted by the developed one dimensional solutions. The proposed approach is based on introducing a set of correction factors for the one dimensional analysis results to account for the two dimensional edge effects. Finite element analyses are utilized to validate the obtained results.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130011794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The device's PT operates in longitudinal-vibration mode and features good isolation, incombustibility and compact size. The PT was implemented as a part of the new AC-adapter and a significant reduction in size was achieved as a result. Experimental evaluation of the new adapter confirms that good performance was successfully obtained in spite of the need to comply with strict safety and noise standards.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133729942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The influence of the insulator thickness, the effect of the air gap, the window height and the variation of the value of the capacitive effects as a consequence of the coil-former and insulator materials are some of the parameters that have been analyzed in this work. It is important to note that all these effects should be analyzed together when designing a new magnetic component. The study has been carried out by means of a frequency and geometry dependent model that accounts for 2D effects. The generation of the model and the parameter extraction procedure is based on the use of finite element analysis (FEA) solvers.","PeriodicalId":423659,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of APEC 97 - Applied Power Electronics Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114106593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
