The opera was received with great acclaim by the critics worldwide, and in May 2017 it was granted an award at International Opera Awards in London in the category “rediscovered work.” This surprised not only Polish music lovers but alsomusicians, as the belief that Żelenski was a conservative composer whose works are a remnant of a bygone era had become widespread. This view had been shared by several generations and couldnot be verified since the composer’s pieces were very rarely performed, perhaps with the exceptionof his early works – the concert overture W Tatrach [In the Tatra Mountains] and a few songs. It was only recently that research on his oeuvre has been undertaken. The present article is aimed at providing additional information concerning the composing technique of Wladyslaw Żelenski.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"554 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116249370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moniuszko’s correspondence, which often featured litera-ture-related topics, constitutes the basis for the analysis of literary contexts of his works. The com- poser wrote about his favourite books, poets and writers as well as the lyrics to songs and librettos. Above all, however, his letters contain evidence of his search for new librettos in the existing liter- ary texts and numerous traces of his attempts to invite contemporary writers, poets and playwrights to collaborate on musico-dramatic works. The letters written to several eminent representatives of mid-century Polish literature are a testament to Moniuszko's ambitious intentions. The contents of those letters also confirm that it was difficult for the composer to find a writer who would collabo- rate with him as the author of the lyrics to a musico-dramatic piece. The article also presents a collection of Moniuszko's librettists, which includes the best writers and playwrights of the time. The most remarkable of Moniuszko's works are well-written in terms of lyrics, which is a proof of the effectiveness of the composer's efforts and, in the context of the popularity of his works, also of the significance of his achievements, not only for music, but also for the literature and literary culture of the nineteenth century.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133051412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Works of art created for the radio, as sound art pieces per se, are also becoming an engaging research ground for such disciplines as theory of music or musicology. Some of the most fascinating examples of radio dramas that may be found in the archives of RadioWroclaw are those created by Andrzej Waligorski – a distinctive artist whose activity fell on the “golden days” of Polish radio drama art, commonly dated back to the 1960s and 1970s. His works constitute a perfect example of a diverse approach to the phonic material of radio drama employed in order to enhance the presentation of the world depicted in the piece. Words and sounds, including music, become carriers of multiple meanings, which the author of the present article attempts to explore.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128780902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At first, I introduce my mo- tives for undertaking creative activity, which include, among others, the atmosphere of my familyhouse (my father, Wojciech Łukaszewski, was a composer). My inspiration to take up choral music was a ten-year collaboration with the choir of the Academy of Catholic Theology (currently Cardi-nal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw) under the management of the Reverend Kazimierz Szymonik. In the latter part of the article, I introduce my choral works, list the titles and then focus strictly on Passion and Paschal music. I present the circumstances in which those pieces were cre- ated, the details of their first performances and recordings, the texts they used and, furthermore, ana- lyze them, paying attention to the most distinctive features of my composing technique and style.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123951340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The matter of morphological features of the religious repertoire in the living tradition includes several basic factors, such as poetic text structure (versification, strophic structure), stylistic and formal properties, metre and rhythm, melodics, and tonal considerations (cf. B. Bartkowski, Niektóre ce-chy muzycznej metrorytmiki polskich pieśni religijnych żyjących w tradycji ustnej, “Summarium. Sprawozdania Towarzystwa Naukowego KUL” 1978, no. 3 (23), p. 250). The purpose of this article is to present and analyse the tonal phenomena occurring in folk religious chants performed throughout the funeral rite in the region of Rzeszów (Rzeszów region – a region in South-Eastern Poland inhabited by the ethnic groups of Lasowiacy and Rzeszowiacy, which covers the approxi-mate area of the current ten districts (Tarnobrzeg, Stalowa Wola, Nisko, Kolbuszowa, Leżajsk, Mielec, Ropczyce-Sędziszów, Rzeszów, Przeworsk, and Łańcut). -cf. Kolędowanie na Rzeszowszczyźnie, ed. K. Smyk, J. Dragan, Kolbuszowa – Kraków 2019, p. 8, and range maps, pp. 382–383), especially during the prayer for the deceased at home, the procession to the church, the procession to the cemetery, and the inhumation at the cemetery). The musical scales upon which the melodies of the individual chants are based have particular significance in terms of their musical shape. In fact, the tonality, which constitutes a note system, influences the interval structure, the relationships between individual notes, the melody and, indirectly, the regional conditions for the performance of the chants (cf. B. Bartkowski, Niektóre cechy…, p. 250). The material will be presented based on the scale range criterion while individual tonal phenomena will be presented using selected examples.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131549254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It predominantly concerns her performances on the stage of the Warsaw Government Theatres. The account is supplemented with a report on her other activities in that period. The work is based on source material gathered from the press published in Poland, Leipzig (“Signale fur die musikalische Welt”) and Saint Petersburg (the Polish-language weekly “Kraj”). The reviews of Kruszelnicka’sperformances constitute a valuable record of the reception of her art and, at the same time, paint an interesting picture of a fragment of Warsaw’s musical culture at the turn of the nineteenth andtwentieth centuries – a time when traditional views on art clashed with modernist trends.","PeriodicalId":423473,"journal":{"name":"Edukacja Muzyczna","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129801029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
