The motif, which appears frequently in both ancient Greek myths and the legends of Central Asian warrior Turkish societies, is reproduced as a fusion in the works of contemporary Turkish writer Murathan Mungan (*1955). The meanings attached to the motif take on a different dimension during this reproduction, which has implications for themes such as taboo, transgression, and the hierarchy of animal-human relationships in folk narrative. An analysis of Mungan’s play Deer Curses can aid in elucidating the points of folk narrative in regard to these themes and anthropocentrism. This article thus investigates how the motif of the deer hunt, among other deer-related motifs, is revived in a contemporary literary work and what type of conclusions it may bring in analyzing human-animal relationships, as well as hegemony, through a symbolic reading of this relationship.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"20 1","pages":"363 - 384"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139296474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ddakjibon waren billige, dünne Hefte oder Bücher mit Druckpapier niedriger Qualität. Sie wurden bis in die 1970er Jahre durch kleine Händler und Kolporteuren auf dem Markt bzw. auf der Straße verkauft. Ihre Rezeption erfolgte sowohl durch berufliche Vorleser als auch durch private Lektüre. An diesen unterschiedlichen Lektüreformen soll die Herausbildung des modernen Lesepublikums in Korea und die Übergangsphase von einer semi-oralen bzw. semi-literalen zu einer schriftbasierten Kultur herausgearbeitet werden.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"57 1","pages":"338 - 362"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139294812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Im Einzelnen werden zwei Opernlibretti ausgewertet, denen Volksmärchen zugrunde liegen: Das verzauberte Schwein und Hänsel und Gretel. Hinzu kommt die kursorische Betrachtung von neun Opernlibretti, denen andere Märchen beziehungsweise märchenhafte Stoffe zugrunde liegen oder die als Operntexte für Kinder erdichtet wurden und die seit 2010 am Opernhaus Zürich ihre Uraufführung feierten. Es geht um die Frage, nach welchen poetischen und dramaturgischen Prinzipien die Märchenoper mit Volksmärchen verfährt.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"34 1","pages":"322 - 327"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139298326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are typically the voices of the oppressed or subjugated section of the society. Their voices, however, can be heard in literature as they subsequently turn to it to articulate their thoughts, and folk literature or folklore is no exception in this regard. Drawing inspiration from the subaltern perspective, this paper argues that folktales of Kashmir gave voice to the subaltern of the Kashmiri society. For this purpose, it examines three Kashmiri folktales titled The Tale of the Farmer’s Wife and the Honey-Bee, The Story of A Weaver, and The Clever Jackal following a subaltern approach to demonstrate how themes, narratives, and characters represent the subdued voices.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"12 1","pages":"385 - 401"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139297630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It argues that the dominance of Chaucer’s Miller’s Tale over current scholarship has led us to conceptualise the motif in unduly reductive terms. To demonstrate the variability and complexity of the kiss as a narrative element, a number of neglected witnesses are reviewed from medieval and early modern French, English, German and Dutch. The article appends a translation and edition of one of the most eccentric specimens of the kiss from the late medieval period, the “Refereynen vande jonghe Kamer van Haerlem” (1561).","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"37 1","pages":"282 - 297"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139300925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article engages how the language of Wissenschaft constructed Jewish texts in the language of folk-narrative studies. And how the language of folk-narrative studies constructed Jewish culture in the language of Wissenschaft. Given the status of scholars within this movement – Jews who were citizens of European nations – they demonstrated the affinities between Jewish folk-narrative traditions and Islamic narrative traditions; on the other hand, they used a poetic language that implemented European (mainly German) genres and forms of scholarship that were viewed as objective and scientific in their studies of Jewish texts. The article examines three works by three scholars from three generations of the Wissenschaft movement: Moritz Steinschneider, Ignaz Goldziehr and Bernhard Heller – each corresponding respectively to one genre: legend, myth and folktale.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"18 1","pages":"213 - 242"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139304860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Belonging to the genre of wisdom literature, it circulated in over thirty languages and under various titles. This article addresses processes of creative adaptation in different cultural contexts by comparing two early versions, the Book of Syntipas the Philosopher in Greek from the eleventh century and Dolopathos in Latin from the twelfth century. By way of case study, it offers an analysis of the ‘bedroom scene’ in both versions and discusses the different ways with which female agency is dealt.","PeriodicalId":42252,"journal":{"name":"FABULA","volume":"13 1","pages":"298 - 321"},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139292960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
