Since battery is the main building block of DESS, so linearised battery model is derived with the help of simple matrix manipulation and quantitative battery management system, of DC-DC bi-directional converter, bi-directional inverter and controlling circuitry of battery management system is designed. Software tool MATLAB (SIMULINK) version is used for the testing of simulation result. Results shows that proposed linearised battery model and estimated state of charge with the help of Kalman filter is more efficient as compared to the nonlinear model.","PeriodicalId":42251,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Aviation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46096855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis of peculiarities of movement on the ground is carried out, and disadvantages and limits of application of available control methods are specified. The second part of the paper is devoted to development of a dynamic aircraft model for virtual testing of integral contour. The development allows to obtain the maximum benefits on flying wing aircraft. Nevertheless, with certain modifications, the system can be used for aircraft of the classic aerodynamic design. It will improve the safety of flights in a strong crosswind and improve takeoff and landing characteristics. The technical solution can be used on passenger aircraft as an auxiliary system that helps the pilot to withstand take-off and flight direction under random energy disturbances, similar to the electronic stability program (ESP) auxiliary systems used on modern cars - an electronic dynamic stabilisation system.","PeriodicalId":42251,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Aviation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48042044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper discusses the performance benefits of similar and hybrid jet airliners flying in formation. The aerodynamic forces are modelled through potential flow theory. The lateral and vertical spacing is varied to estimate advantages in range. For simplicity, only cruise performance is analysed. By employing formation flying in wide-body aircrafts, an increase in range up to 65% is observed relative to standard flight. In addition to that, an optimal switching point during cruise flight is evaluated to give equal benefits to both aircrafts flying in formation. The study proposes a new concept of shared airspace where different aircrafts cooperate on long routes for fuel savings. However, the findings reported in this paper are of theoretical nature and high-fidelity models and experimentation is considered necessary to further evaluate the benefits of formation flying. Moreover, existing distancing restrictions between two aircrafts, imposed by regulatory authorities, are also a potential limitation in successful realisation of commercial formation flight.","PeriodicalId":42251,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Aviation","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44370361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of these challenges are beyond the control of airlines. However, it is extremely important to be efficient in the areas that the airlines have control over. Flight line maintenance, also called as through flight maintenance, involves regular walk-around checks of aircraft between their arrival and successive departure at the airport. The lack of adequate line maintenance personnel has a major impact on on-time flight departures. Accordingly, having the right number of maintenance crew sizes is crucial for on-time performance and profitability in particular at their hubs and busy airports. This study offers a generic discrete-event simulation modelling for airlines to help them with staffing their line maintenance crew teams. The application of the model is presented to a US airline operating at their busiest hub. Different crew teams and their impact on key performance indicators are tested and reported for this airline.","PeriodicalId":42251,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Sustainable Aviation","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43747077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
