Services are subject to special taxes in many jurisdictions; and special subsidies are paid to finance investments, especially in new fibre networks. The paper analyses the validity in general of both of these forms of treatment. In many jurisdictions the ground for collecting special taxes seems to hinge, especially in developing countries, upon the relatively low costs of tax collection. However, special taxes may discourage diffusion and restrict growth. In relation to subsidies, the justification can run from equity or industrial policy goals to the avoidance of market failure. In both instances, the argument depends on the degree to which investment in telecommunications creates externalities which enhance growth. The paper concludes that no general case for either form of special treatment has been proven.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116147416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing literature indicates that the IS planning processes will depend on the networking strategy adopted such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and E-Commerce (EC). This research assimilates data on IS planning practices across 149 companies in India from the list of top 1000 companies. It then categorises the IS planning practices of these large-sized companies based on their networking strategy and attempts to give broad contours of a framework for IS planning practices for different e-business models.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116303674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although such investigations have largely focused on managerial decision making, few studies have explored the cognitive capability as a needed capability for strategic alliances' partners. In this article, the cognitive capability is considered as a key capability in alliances' partner selection, and relationships between psychological underpinnings of cognitive capability and alliance performance are studied in different time frames of alliances' endurance. Using OLS regression analysis on data from 115 international alliances, the empirical models comprised of perception, attention, problem-solving, communication and social cognition are designed to explain the role of cognitive capability in performance of strategic alliances. Results provide a clear understanding of the importance of cognitive capability in alliances' partner selection and show how these psychological underpinnings fuel alliances' performance in short/medium-term and long-term.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129237531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By formulating a dynamic model of quality choice, this study shows that firm's long-run profit is sensitive to the network effect, especially to the provision of software varieties at the initial stage of development. The insights from this study can be applicable to the investment decision and resource allocation problems in rapidly developing network industries such as video console market or computer technology.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130119726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depending on the transportation modes and storage methods used, the stages may expose the drugs to hostile environments, such as extreme temperatures, which may impact the quality. To study the performance of such a supply chain, we incorporate the effect of quality on demand with the Neyman–Pearson statistical framework. We show that in a centralised supply chain the optimal inspection strategies for the parties depend on parameters, which signify the relative importance of price and the impact of quality on demand. In particular, we find that the ratio between the customer demand under perfect product quality and the customer sensitivity to quality plays a critical role in selecting optimal inspection policies.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116338126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These reforms have helped specific spectrum-intensive industries achieve higher allocative efficiency through improved spectrum valuation and investor certainty about long-term spectrum holdings. However, the high degree of resource exclusivity conferred by property rights potentially crowds out access by innovative services, affecting dynamic efficiency. Reforms may also undermine technical efficiency if the owner makes scant use of the privatised spectrum. The paper takes stock of action research performed in the regulatory agency of a reforming country to present the economic trade-offs involved, and argue for a more piecemeal approach to reforms based on a flexible licensing system.","PeriodicalId":422059,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Management and Network Economics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125304855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
