The empirical strategy is based on vector autoregression models (VAR) for time series and panel-data settings on a sample of 40 US States during 2003-2018. The results confirm a bidirectional causal relationship in the short-run between economic activity—i.e., Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per worker—and work accidents in 28 States. Additionally, the empirical evidence suggests that this relationship is heterogeneous. In line with increased awareness on how the economic cycle affects the temporal trajectory of work accidents across territories, policy implications and future research avenues are discussed.","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En este marco, la vinculación con startups aparece como un candidato natural para estas estrategias de innovación abierta corporativa. Los resultados obtenidos en este artículo muestran que se trata de un fenómeno muy reciente pero en expansión, aunque con una fuerte concentración espacial en las economías más grandes de la región. Su principal motivación es la de innovar de forma más ágil y flexible, asumiendo múltiples formas y actividades pero sin estar circunscripto a empresas de sectores tecnológicos ni de capital extranjero. Asimismo, la mirada en profundidad sobre los casos estudiados muestra la existencia aún de tensiones y desafíos a nivel corporativo para poder incorporar al trabajo con startups dentro de las rutinas y procesos ya existentes así como la importancia de una alineación de expectativas de uno y otro lado de la relación en cuanto a los compromisos y resultados esperados. Además, aquellos casos que están más avanzados en estas iniciativas muestran la importancia de que éstas sean concebidas como emprendimientos en sí mismos y tengan una fuerte alineación estratégica con su “organización madre” (la corporación). Varias líneas de investigación futura se desprenden de estos resultados para nutrir un campo de investigación aún por despegar en América Latina.","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the healthcare challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic has also caused drastic changes in the management world. Through a systematic literature review of 137 articles published before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (between 2009 and March 2020), we develop a conceptual framework that integrates complementary branches of theoretical and empirical research, with the VUCA environment as the central unit of analysis. Our objectives are to unravel how the main theories in this field address essential aspects of management and future study trends, we also propose a conceptualisation of VUCA as an essential element of the current environment and its relationship with the different disciplines in the business world.","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Agri-food chains are key to ensuring the transition to a sustainable development model in line with the principles of CE. This study sought to implement the concepts of circular economy at the Ecuador's banana production chain, through the design of prospective from the exhaustive diagnosis of the main processes of the chain. The research was conducted from 2020 to 2022. The studied checklist included 91 items grouped into nine dimensions: source or supply of materials, design, manufacturing, economic circle, distribution and sales, consumption and use, 4R, re-manufacturing, and sustainability. A medium circular economy level (CEL) was evaluated (2.69 points out of 5). Two machine learning techniques (MLTs) were also applied support vector machine (SVM), (with three types of kernel: radial, linear and polynomial) and a neural network (NN). In relation to the Spearman correlation coefficients of the application of the techniques to the study cases, they were higher than 0.90. The most reliable was the SVM Regression-Linear Kernel, which had a coefficient close to 1. Finally, various value-adding options are proposed in order to take advantage of the large amount of waste generated in the banana production system. The proposed options include value-augmentation processes, ranging from organic fertilizers, biofuels, materials for wastewater treatment, and the production of bioplastics and nanoparticles, which can be implemented using the CE approach.","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similar to the case of work accidents, results suggest a positive association between the state of the economic cycle and the incidence rate of occupational illnesses. The reported increase in occupational illnesses between 2009 and 2020 should not be interpreted as bad news. Regulatory changes underwent by Spain’s government introduced a logical harmonization in illnesses’ notification criteria, which led to a temporal convergence of occupational illnesses with and without work leave days. Also, legal reforms facilitated the updating of the list of occupational illnesses and their causing agents, which constitutes a sign that the level of protection of Spanish workers improved, in terms of occupational health and safety at the workplace","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their relevance, projects in these countries typically fail or are abandoned before completion. Recent calls suggest that projects in DCs are multifaceted, interdependent and of a complex nature; consequently, they are influenced by various factors that are specific to these territories, requiring new research efforts that delve deeper into the particularities of this specific setting. Literature on project management success (PMS) in DCs is very limited, and the existing attempts either rely on PMS factors for developed countries and/or use conventional variable-oriented analyses that are not transferrable to the context of DCs. Aiming to shed new light on the factors that shape PMS in DCs, this study examines both the configurational and the independent influence of three factors that have been emphasised in PM literature as determinants of PMS. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted among 215 project manager practitioners in Ghana. First, we validate the factors’ structure obtained from literature. Next, we examine the configurational influence of these factors on PMS in DCs, complementing the findings with robustness checks. Our results support the existence of distinct pathways, suggesting that there is no unique recipe, but different strategies that can be followed. The study concludes with a series of recommendations that are expected to help engineers and project managers in DCs understand and deal with project management challenges.","PeriodicalId":42185,"journal":{"name":"Tec Empresarial","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84696729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main limitation is the dispersion of research topics and the exclusion of publications that did not address the investigated relationship directly. The theoretical model proposed in this study can be extended to different spheres to identify and generate entrepreneurship opportunities, especially in universities and incumbent firms. However, it has been shown that companies alone cannot adequately develop eco-innovation activities, to achieve not only a higher level of eco-innovation activities, but also a significant improvement in the level of sustainable performance of manufacturing firms. In addition, little is known about the relationship between financial resources, eco-innovation and sustainable performance fill this gap in the literature and explore the relationship between these three main constructs through an extensive review of the literature. Likewise, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 460 through confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation models.
