When responding to such incidents, Emergency service agencies and rescue organisations are working together more frequently to enhance their overall operational effectiveness, often requiring collaboration across state borders. The REDIRNET project benefits multi-agency joint-working by facilitating information exchange through the concept of broad-scale data interoperability.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127804103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a key enabler of Industry 4.0, cyber-physical systems form the core of a modular, web-based framework, which delivers more efficient condition monitoring mechanisms for maintenance staff in production facilities. The present approach illustrates the potential of a decentralized and centralized, distributed system by using standardized communication protocols and semantic information models. The use of web-based platforms like node.js and protocols such as OPC UA offers the ability to automate transferring information about anomalies, root causes and nominal data directly between cloud-based services and condition monitoring systems on the shop floor. To conclude, a validation is accomplished within a case study on a flexible handling unit.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127980691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such settings, software development usually occurs in a multistage process: system variants initially derived from a platform are adapted and extended to meet specific requirements. This common approach, however, results in significant challenges for software development and maintenance. In this paper we review key challenges we have been observing when investigating our industrial partner's software ecosystems. We then present a feature-oriented development approach we have been developing to tackle those. Our approach is backed with static analysis methods to deal with system variants and versions created in software maintenance.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131592251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Home automation is a heterogeneous realm with various and often not compatible technologies. As any not standardized area, this realm is always disrupted by new, emerging technologies and standards. Home is a dynamic environment which constantly grows and evolves. To keep up with changes, home automation algorithms are tweaked and modified over time. To tackle diversity, we employ model driven approaches to weave different technologies and facilitate home automation tasks. We show how modelling techniques improve portability, scalability and simulation of the home automation features. We present two use-cases developed in cooperation with industry partners, report our experience in applying ThingML and the Arrowhead framework in the home automation domain.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133264779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because faults on the rails cause to problems such as the cost, the disruption of transportation and the safety. In this study, based real-time video processing algorithm used Morphological feature extraction is recommended to detection defects on railroad. The rail is detected by applying Hough Transform and image processing techniques to rail images obtained from the real time camera. Features of the detected rail images are extracted with applying morphological operations and defected regions are identified. Headcheck, fracture, scour and undulation failures are detected through proposed method. In this study, results with low uptime and high success rate are acquired by performing all steps of proposed algorithm to the images of rail taken under different lighting and direction.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133859620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A tracking simulator is an example of an online simulation system with great capabilities that fills the gap left by other predictive applications. In a tracking simulator, a simulation model is run in parallel with a physical process controlled by the process' control system. At the same time, a tracking mechanism is used to keep the state of the simulation model as close as possible to the real process by continually adjusting parameters of the model. The selection of these parameters impacts directly on the quality of the tracking simulation results and it is a complex task in processes with a big number of variables. This paper presents two case studies of tracking simulation where the controlled parameters are selected using different techniques. The first case study deals with a laboratory-scale hot water generation process where the parameters' selection is performed manually. The second case study deals with a combined heat and power production process with major uncertainties in the process structure. In this case, we focus on the variance decomposition method used to determine the most suitable controlled parameters. Conclusions and future work are finally presented.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122186070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of decentralized paradigms, and particularly multi-agent systems and holonic control, enable to face this challenge by implementing intelligent mechanisms that allow an efficient management of the power flow. In this paper, a holonic based model is introduced, considering load scheduling and forecast mechanisms to improve the micro grids self-sustainability, and consequently reduce the energy cost and the energy dependency from the main utility. The designed holonic based model and strategies were developed by using the agent technology, and particularly the JADE framework, showing important improvements in the self-sustainability of micro grids working in different operating modes.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121058450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fact a camera is immovable simplifies detection task by applying background subtraction. Color analysis emphasizes moving objects that have higher probability to be actual smoke. Due to limited performance of background subtraction, a real smoke region is represented as many separate pixels. These pixels are combined using density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise method and morphological operations. Shape of smoke candidate is evaluated using boundary roughness and area variability. Irregular density of smoke can be checked by edge density. The dynamic nature of smoke is confirmed by motion analysis. Tests on various datasets have shown consistency of the method.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125588302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With power measurements from smart meters, utilities can deploy innovative programs that allow end users to better control their energy usage while simultaneously reducing peak demand across the grid. In this paper, to develop data analysis tools for applications enabling monitoring and control of energy, a systems approach is taken, comprising of modeling, measurement, calibration and inference on the energy data collected from end users. A combination of analysis and synthesis for deriving data and measurement models calibrated to the aggregate power under measurement allows detection and estimation of features of individual appliances. Test results on disaggregation of power waveforms using the publicly available REDD data sets show promising results. The generic modeling and optimization framework can be used in the design and deployment of cyber physical energy systems for monitoring and control of energy resources.","PeriodicalId":421680,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124333236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
