Those difficulties usually imply more time consumption that causes productiveness reduction deriving finally in delays. So, projects where such kind of development is needed have to deal with them in order to ensure the success of the project. The case project has adopted this development approach due to its nature. The main goal of the project is to develop a cloud solution for enhancing collaboration and transparency between manufacturing companies forming a collaborative network. In order to implement it, the overall solution has been divided into several pieces, having many interdependencies among them. Thus, different working teams geographically spread from different organizations have participated in the implementation, integration, verification and validation tasks. This paper explains how the case project has organized the working teams, infrastructure, procedures and practices to guarantee the success of the project.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114540432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a configuration with high variable dimensionality yields too much 100 % efficient DMUs, hence making results invaluable. In this paper a new method is provided, which applies Principal Component Analysis (PCA) as a post-processing tool, to test and select valuable DEA scenarios. DEA efficiencies are calculated for all possible scenarios, which then are analyzed with PCA. Additionally, this method is applied on a dataset with both quantitative and qualitative data and an input- and output-oriented approach. It is apparent that scenarios with high loadings on particular Principal Components yield valuable results with both efficient and inefficient DMUs with different model configurations. Therefore, the new PCA-DEA method has the advantage to work with both DEA orientations and a mixed dataset, with both quantitative and qualitative data. Also it is shown that the method's results can be incorporated in a cash cow diagram, in order to interpret a benchmarking case.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114558700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite this, the sea has one of the most valuable and mostly exploited “economic platforms” of mankind, with applications in different sectors (as fishing industry, transportation cargo, etc.). Although this situation and the great evolution in technology can contribute to better know of the sea, this has not been happening. Given that a systematic collection of maritime data has already been carried out, yet is still dispersed and not used in its entirety. This is one of the objectives of the H2020 BigDataOcean project (http://www.bigdataocean.eu/site/), collecting the various data sources and thus being able to treat them together in order to obtain better results. This paper presents the analysis of the current landscape of big data, starting from the identification of existing ones, used tools and methodologies to be integrated in the project services, and platform with the aim of retrieving and analyzing the maritime data is presented. Then, the requirement engineering methodology is presented, being the methodology used during the project to identify the stakeholders, data sources, data value chain and the technologic gaps, resulting the in the identification of the first iteration of the requirements.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126449490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its purpose is to offer students a complex view on the issues with designing controllers for real systems as a real engineering problem. Students can design their own controllers and directly implement them to provided Simulink structure, which can be examined by them to better understand concepts of real plant control. A graphical user interface was also designed to quickly access important data and choose the reference value. As an example a linear quadratic (LQ) digital controller is also presented. It is designed for 2DOF controller structure and accordingly tested.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132525839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A questionnaire was distributed among all industrialization project managers of the company under study containing a list of current PM practices. These were derived from the literature analysis and from the field work previously conducted on the case study, comprising semi-structured interviews, focus groups, observation and document analysis. The results showed that the top twenty most useful tools and techniques is composed of very well-known and widely used tools. They cover the overall PM life cycle, from initiation to project closure, but special relevance is given to specific tools and techniques for planning, emphasizing the importance of the planning phase in industrialization projects.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131840970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context extensive measurements with the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) have been used. In addition to the real measurements, ray tracing simulation has been applied and good matching in spatial distribution of propagation paths between measurements and simulation has been achieved. The simulation results and measurements obtained from using a conference room as a reference model is detailed. We conclude this chapter by presenting the adopted channel model that we have used in this work as well as the different computer simulation methods that have been adopted where the ray tracing method will be listed and commented.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131218986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The digital era allowed digital networks to be used for continuous and remote measurements. Building of digital measurement networks or sensor networks can be based on different topologies and communication technologies. The Internet of Things and Cloud Computing associated with Deep Learning opens up new opportunities. Increased computing power, lower energy consumption, extended integration into systems on a chip and lower costs becomes a new foundation for expanding and improving sensor networks. This paper presents the impact on the accuracy of measurements using sensor networks with cloud computing technologies from the perspective of continuous running over a period of more than three years.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131646711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a novel solution, which leverages the architectural characteristics of edge computing for security reasons. Machine learning models (specifically Support Vector Machines) are employed on the edge of the cloud, to perform low footprint unsupervised learning and analysis of sensor data for anomaly detection purposes. To this end, a proof of concept system is developed, capable of detecting anomalies in real world vessel sensor streams (big data) in a smart port environment. We report on early results, that validate the potential of the solution. The quality and performance of the model is investigated in real world conditions.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115332562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Merely mobile payment services are not sufficient for any of these objectives, and there is a joint interest in enabling mobile credit and saving services. It is widely recognized that successful adoption of mobile saving and credit services is dependent on a digital solution; it requires a transition from current cash based over-the-counter (OTC) solutions to future digital accounts (mobile wallets/mWallets). Firstly, this paper reviews previous research on MFS, secondly it summarizes the global industry picture for MFS today, and thirdly, we provide key learnings from the successful Easypaisa case in Pakistan. MFS can also be characterized as implementations in complex ecosystems with lots of tension and dependent on local circumstances. The unique Easypasia case we present is a further proof of the complex processes and events that moves a MFS implementation from one state to another. It also shows how Easypaisa's significant jump from cash-based to digital mWallet solutions was triggered by a governmental regulation on ID requirements for mobile subscriptions. The ecosystem approach and significance of local conditions is vital to be aware of when the industry turns to new aspects of MFS and when technologies such as blockchain may disrupt the current situation.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124540286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the firms' perspective, losses of legally protected market exclusivity equal to painful losses of competitive advantages. Thus, pharmaceutical companies need to face different strategies after patent expiration in order to survive competition in the long-run. Using a case study methodology, our study presents first orientations for evaluation of those strategies with regard to their effects on firms' innovation. Analyzing theoretical works related to pharmaceutical industry as well as strategic management and empirical data collected by the authors, we formulate research propositions supposing that pharmaceutical companies are more innovative if they are focused on their core competencies in pharmaceutical research and development.","PeriodicalId":421648,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123970026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
