The sample was 70 students. In collecting the data, the test was given twice to experimental and control groups, as a pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test in SPSS 20 program. The finding showed that the p-output (sig.(2-tailed)) was 0.004 lower than 0.05 and the t-value 2.990 was higher than t-table 1.667. Therefore it could be stated that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that narrative reading comprehension by using Coop-Dis-Q strategy had a significant improvement on the students’ reading comprehension achievement.","PeriodicalId":421540,"journal":{"name":"Literal: English Teaching and Learning Journal","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124433765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research used qualitative case study approach. In order to gather the data, the researchers did interview to four EFL student teachers of 2018, and the researchers used thematic analysis to analyse the data. According to the results, it was found that there were four challenges faced by all participants. All of students felt challenged in translation process because they were lack of vocabulary in target language, limitations due to grammatical differences between the source language and the target language, pragmatic problems, and culture-specific concepts.","PeriodicalId":421540,"journal":{"name":"Literal: English Teaching and Learning Journal","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127445648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Indonesia, the quality of the teacher itself is ruled through competency demands set out in Law Number 14 Year 2005 and one of the four competencies to be mastered is pedagogical competency. This paper highlights the presence of teachers’ pedagogical competency in affecting the students’ English performance. Many studies have found that teachers’ pedagogical competency was lacking, negatively impacting students’ performance, including in English. Furthermore, the weakness of the teachers’ pedagogical competency and the lowness of students’ English performance should be solved not only by teachers, students, or the school, but the government’s supervision and solutions are also needed.","PeriodicalId":421540,"journal":{"name":"Literal: English Teaching and Learning Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124977805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purposive sampling was used by the writers with 42 people in each group. Based on the paired-samples t-test with t-get > t-table and a pre-test mean of 53.90 to 74.74 in the post-test, students' performance in writing recount has improved significantly. As a result, the sample t-test was intact by the experimental and control groups' post-test results, In the two-tailed degree-of-freedom test, the sig.level 0.05 output was 82, and the critical t-table value was 1.663 because the t value obtained 28.66 was greater than the critical value of t-table. The population of the study was all of the 8th grade students in SMP Negeri 40 Palembang. In choosing the sample, purposive sampling was used that involved 134 students. The data were collected by using vocabulary mastery and writing descriptive text ability tests. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment to investigate the correlation between both variables and regression analysis. The results showed that the coefficient of r-value was 0.557. The category of correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability showed a moderate correlation. It was found that there was significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and writing descriptive text ability of the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 40 Palembang. There was also contribution of vocabulary mastery to writing descriptive text ability of the eighth grade students as much 31%.","PeriodicalId":421540,"journal":{"name":"Literal: English Teaching and Learning Journal","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133788824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
