In the paper, a reflective fibre optic displacement sensor is firstly introduced for the dynamic measurement of the lubricant film, and then the influence of the reflector shape with regard to the principle property of the reflective fibre optic displacement sensor is deeply analyzed so that the influence of the reflector shape is zero when the curvature radius is much bigger than the diameter of the fibre. So, a fibre optical based dynamic measurement schedule is presented for the lubricant film of slide bearing. This friction model, which contains static, Coulomb and viscous friction with Sticbeck effect, can describe the friction behaviour when the servo system operates at both low and high velocity mode. The limit cycle properties of the dual-channel relay feedback system are used for careful tuning of relay gains to run the system on either high or low velocity modes. Sets of explicit formulas are applied for direct computation of model parameters. Only the boundary lubrication velocity is estimated via one-dimensional optimisation. Ku","doi":"10.1109/MMVIP.2007.4430738","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/MMVIP.2007.4430738","url":null,"abstract":"DataBuoyTM I, a three dimensional, real-time marine environment monitoring system with connection to the internet, has been developed by the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). This equipment can multiplex up to five sensors placed at different depths in the water column for monitoring of temperature, salinity and light intensity. It was installed on a site in the Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park between June and July 2006. Data collected was transferred to the CityU Marine Laboratory at the Hoi Ha Wan Marine Life Centre. Preliminary results showed that Hoi Ha Wan has had a wide salinity variation (9 ppt to 33 ppt) among sites and within two days. During that data collecting period, the water temperature recorded at 30 cm from sea surface reached a maximum of 33.5degC, while that at 7 m deep was 25.5degC. The DataBuoyTM, therefore, could detect the hypoxia in shallow water caused by low salinity at the water surface whereas the deeper sensors could detect the thermocline associated with the hypoxia in deeper water, if any. Future work involves the setting up of a DataBuoyTM II network to monitor three areas in Hoi Ha Wan. The data could be collected every few seconds and consolidated in a computer server located in the CityU Marine Laboratory. It would be formatted for display at the Marine Life Centre for visitors ' information on a mimic panel and on the CityU\"s WWW site. By using this system, infrared video signal from UIRFPA is corrected and displayed. Taking advantage of the high speed and parallel computation of FPGA, it is used as the core part of the system to complete the functions such as sampling, data caching, nonlinear correction and image enhancement. Time is saved for back-end processing such as recognition and following by this system. The system is characterized by high integration. A fast-response and high-precision control method based on the internal model control in the case where the controlled object has the integral characteristic is reported. The disturbance observer-based internal model control (DIMC) system has the advantages of no-overshoot, easy-design and simple-realization comparing to the conventional IMC method for the integral objects. However, an overshoot is generated when the model/plant mismatch exists. In the proposed method, since the plant model is explicitly included in the controller, the compensation for the dynamical change of the plant is easily realized by giving an adaptive identification mechanism to the plant model. Following development of the core idea, the results obtained from theoretical calculations and CFD simulations performed in FLOW3D software package were compared to the practical outcomes of a model experiment built at a scale of 1:20 to a real wave pool. The model: consisting three major parts of \"wave pool and pressure vessels\", \"air fan and accumulator\" and \"mechanical wave generation assembly\": implemented air pressure in mechanical wave generation assembly and a system of electronic controlling, which considering available facilities and resources, entitled it to a proper and optimized method as for power consumption and losses that enabled us to practically measure also desirably optimize the effectual parameters (D. Shetty and R.A. The force generated by the actuator is measured as the inertial force of the mass, which is levitated with sufficiently small friction using a pneumatic linear bearing. The moving mass of the bearing is connected to the moving part of the actuator. During the measurement, only the Doppler shift frequency of the laser beam reflected by the mass is accurately measured using an optical interferometer. Then, the velocity, the position, the acceleration and the inertial force of the mass are calculated from the frequency.
