From this point of view, infertility cannot be considered as a mere somatic illness, but as a human problem implying psychological and social aspects that require a search for solutions unlikely to be reduced to a sole medical operation. A psycho-spiritual analysis of Don Quixote's return to mental health is presented, covering the time-span between Don Quixote's coming back to this native village and his last days. By way of a \"historical diagnosis\", the author proposes some clinical explanations: Goodman Quijano's last illness might have been a plasmodium falciparum-caused malaria; malaria, however did not contribute to reinstate soundmindedness (as per Wagner von Jauregg's therapeutic criteria, for example). Study was a double-blind, randomized controlled trial: Subjects were assessed during an initial examination with informed consent, then entering a 4-week treatment trial. The Hamilton Depression Scale, the Widlocher Psychomotor Retardation Scale, and the Andreasen Negative Symptoms Scale were used for evaluating cases. Both the efficacy and safety of drugs were assessed. The 5-HT function has been the most studied function in animal models, and studies carried out with either psychiatric patients, antisocial subjects, or normal people. An overwhelming evidence favors the importance of the 5-HT function in the modulation of aggressive behavior, particularly when 5-HT function is associated to loss of impulse control. Data from literature are reviewed. Results of a challenge serotonin test with fluoxetine in normal subjects are presented. Quantitative data].","authors":"M M Alonso","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>A partial report from a study dealing with Psychology's current status in Argentina is presented. Pursuant to this preliminary study 36,128 psychologists have taken their degree at both State and private universities in Argentina--between 1956, when the first Department of Psychology was created, and 1992. So, over a 32.5-million population (as per the 1991 census), there is a psychologist every 897 inhabitants, or 111 psychologists every 100,000 inhabitants. According to psychologists' geographical distribution, the highest density is to be found in the capital city of Buenos Aires (one psychologist every 246 inhabitants) while the lowest density is to be found in the Province of Chaco (one psychologist every 17,465 inhabitants). During year 1993, a total of 26,726 students have been studying Psychology at the different Argentine universities: Of these, 6,858 have taken their Psychology degree during this academic year. A great majority of psychologists work in the clinical field, being Psychoanalysis their prominent theoretical orientation. Ladies psychologists supposedly account for 85% of the overall number of psychologists.
