The aim of this research is to study one of the important concepts representing Russian national world view i.e. a conceptualized word DUTY/ДОЛГ on the one hand, and two corresponding English words such as DUTY and DEBT, on the other hand. In order to show the discrepancies between those concepts in English and Russian cultures, comparative research technique has been used. The author compared data excerpted from the British National Corpus (BNC) and the Russian National Corpus (RNC). As a result, it is necessary to underline that mutual understanding of interlocutors who use different systems of cultural, social and moral values, is based on the adequate perception of the concepts represented in different languages. Otherwise, dissimilarity of those concepts predetermines lack of understanding and may even cause communicative failure (especially in case of choosing inappropriate word in target language in the process of translation). While translating literary texts an interpreter should take into account the shades of meaning as well as the crucial differences in national world view between source and target languages.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47329163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dicha interpretación se ubica en el ámbito de la traducción cultural, resultado de la estructuración de la cultura originaria a partir de modalidades de conocimiento asociadas al dominio. Se destaca, en este campo, el proyecto evangelizador de fray Bernardino de Sahagún, probable supervisor y suscritor de los Cantares mexicanos, manuscrito compuesto de cantos en el llamado náhuatl clásico cuyo texto conserva la cultura predominante y las interpolaciones propias de su interacción con el Occidente. Esas ocurrieron en castellano, pero igualmente en náhuatl clásico, por lo que reflejan la compleja labor epistémica y traductológica que implicó la creación de neologismos para introducir nociones cristianas en la cultura nahua.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48534764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para ello, partiremos del concepto de hospitalidad de Derrida y su aplicación a los Estudios de Traducción para entender la configuración de las identidades no binarias como una contradicción discursiva. En la paradoja que describe Derrida, asumimos que para aceptar y recibir al Otro hemos de leerlo en su extrañeza, como algo diferente. Aplicaremos este aparato teórico al uso del lenguaje no binario en productos audiovisuales para estudiar cómo la traducción se convierte en un espacio de reflexión en el que analizar la construcción de identidades de género que no encajan en el paradigma binario aún imperante. Tomaremos algunos ejemplos para observar el modo en que las reescrituras audiovisuales permiten visibilizar o, al contrario, ocultar nuevas manifestaciones del género en la pequeña pantalla.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70515788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Em Portugal, A Clockwork Orange foi traduzido duas vezes: a primeira vez por José Luandino Vieira e a segunda vez por Vasco Gato, apresentando diferenças a vários níveis. The translation activity is studied within the broad historical, political, and ideological context; the research combines a socio-historical perspective with an empirical study of the translation flows and agents. Due to mass political emigration of Ukrainians in the 20th century, translation was used by emigrants to preserve and develop the Ukrainian language, literature and culture that did not have normal conditions for existence in the USSR, and to give voice to the Ukrainian writers who could not have their works published in their country. The role of literary translation in Ukrainian nation-building grew due to translators’ activism and collaboration of the diaspora in different countries as well as with translators in the Ukrainian SSR. A unique role in presenting the Ukrainian literary polysystem in its entirety to the world community belongs to the Ukrainian-born citizen of Brazil Vira Selianska.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70515198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

COVID-19 has opened a significant responsibility and a vast space for translation scholars in approaching this topic. Starting from a brief survey of research on translation and global health, this article examines the roles of translators and interpreters in knowledge translation, and thus in the combat against COVID-19 pandemic by investigating two cases, i.e., Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment and Jin Ji’s interpreting service in Italy. It is revealed that translators and interpreters have functioned as initiators, messengers, and co-producers of COVID-19 knowledge and they, in collaboration with other actors (health practitioners, medical researchers, policymakers, etc.), have contributed to the empowerment of patients and ordinary citizens in the fight. The author argues that translation plays an indispensable part in the transcendence of frontiers (sectorial, disciplinary, cultural, and geographic) in knowledge translation, especially during global health emergencies.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70514954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major goal of the present paper is to investigate the relationship between ‘culture’ and ‘translation’. To this end, the researcher drew on a corpus from English and Persian languages. The findings indicated that although different languages, like English and Persian, employ different linguistic forms, this variety cannot be considered as a real challenge. Since during the process of translation, source text’s container (i.e. form) usually undergoes a sort of lexical, phonological, graphological and grammatical change, and source text’s content (i.e. meaning) is logically required to be held constant, accurate understanding of ST meaning and natural rendition into TL depends on the translator’s deep acquaintance with both TL and SL cultures. Resorting to a descriptive equivalent or using explanatory notes would be of great help for accurate rendition and would, consequently, lead to a deep and clear understanding of the TT on the part of the target audiences.","PeriodicalId":41963,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Traducao","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70514772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
