The purpose of this paper is to investigate leadership based on the scripture according to Titus through the lens of an African transformational interpretation and in light of the Rwandan church leadership. The evidence that challenges the leadership of the church in Rwanda can be drawn back from the 1994 genocide attack committed against Tutsis where some church leaders were unable to resist the tragedy while others participated in it. This is contrary to Titus 1:1-9 vis –a- vis the qualities of a leader. Through the African transformational interpretation applied to Titus 1:1-9, Rwandan church leadership must select and appoint leaders without reproach who can make an influential move using the similar core Christian characters shown in the scripture. This can serve as an apostolic manual for building a church that will survive in whatever circumstances that portrays the glory of God.","PeriodicalId":419499,"journal":{"name":"Eastern African Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127621039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has hit almost every nation with Nigeria being adversely affected by the rise of the Boko Haram insurgency, more prevalent in the North-Eastern part of the country. Michika, the local government of Adamawa State is one such place that has been destabilised economically, socially, spiritually, and structurally. Women have been traumatised because they are a major target. This paper assesses the traumatic experiences of women victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Michika. The paper further delineates the role of the church, government, and other relevant stakeholders in response to the plight of women. The study adopted a qualitative approach, collecting data through interviews, focused group discussions, and secondary sources. Data analysis was then done thematically. It was established that women experienced the insurgency differently than men because they are targets for sexual exploitation, sex slavery, forced marriage, and conscription. Their businesses and other sources of livelihood have been affected, thus leaving them in abject poverty, a situation that only little can be accomplished by the government, church, and other organizations’ sporadic interventions. More so, a single approach to counseling will fall short of addressing the issues and reintegrating them into society. Therefore, this paper recommends that the church should reposition itself to facilitate collaborative efforts in providing a long-lasting intervention that seeks to heal, empower, and reintegrate women into society so they can live normal lives again.","PeriodicalId":419499,"journal":{"name":"Eastern African Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132580975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper focus is drawn on these factors which are thought to have largely influenced formation of Namatala slum in Mbale Municipality. While this slum exhibits the challenges presented by typical most African slums, this study argues that linkages between the social, economic, environmental, and cultural dimensions of Namatala slum formed the basis of understanding the challenges particular to its populace. The study used mixed methods research design that entailed collection of data through household survey questionnaires, key stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions. The study established that Namatala is a significantly disadvantaged location, wrought with poverty, inadequate social amenities, poor housing, lack of solid waste management, lack of essential infrastructure, and inadequate access to clean water, safe sanitation facilities and security of tenure. This problem can be attributed to a lack of place-specific policy implementation of the national policies and guidelines as well as lack of intervention by the government, inappropriate regulation, dysfunctional land markets, unresponsive financial systems, and a fundamental lack of political will.","PeriodicalId":419499,"journal":{"name":"Eastern African Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"138 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128738092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
