Its worldwide prevalence is 1/700 000, with a female - male ratio of 3:2. Clinically it manifests as linear scleroderma and most frequently affects the left side of the face. The treatment is surgery and includes techniques such as grafts, flaps or prostheses. CASE REPORT: The following is a case series that includes three patients, who consulted for anatomic and develop mental alterations of the face; who after a meticoluos physical examination and imaging tests were diagnosed with Parry Romberg syndrome. EVOLUTION: In all cases, the treatment was surgery; opting for the placement of a skin graft in the affected area, which was obtained from the abdominal cavity. The clinical evolution and adherence of the graft was satisfactory and without complications. CONCLUSION: The results obtained from the placement of skin graft as the treatment of progressive hemifacial atrophy were excellent in short, medium and long term.","PeriodicalId":417745,"journal":{"name":"Revista Médica del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126266433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cuenca - Ecuador, 2013-2017 OBJECTIVE: Non-melanoma skin cancer is one of the most prevalent and impactful pathologies worldwide; the variants mainly include basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of non-melanoma skin cancer in dermatology outpatients of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, 2013 to 2017. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was performed; the universe included 278 patients diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer from the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital. Different clinical and demographic variables were studied; the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS program version 24.0. RESULTS: 278 patients were included, 56.5% (n=157) female and 43.5% (n=121) male; the average age was 72.9 years (± 15.3). The most frequent pathologies were basal cell carcinoma 75.9% (n=211) and squamous cell carcinoma 24.1% (n=67); the head was the most frequent place of presentation for the two types of cancer with 91.5% (n=193) and 59.7% (n=40) respectively. The most frequent treatment was surgery with 92.4% (n = 195) and 83.6% (n = 56). CONCLUSIÓN: Basal cell carcinoma was the most frequent type of non-melanoma skin cancer in this population; occurs mainly in patients older than 65 years, being surgery the treatment of choice. It is necessary to promote promotion and prevention policies with the objective to improve the control of these pathologies.","PeriodicalId":417745,"journal":{"name":"Revista Médica del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116253516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to determine the association between breast cancer and increased breast density visualized by mammography in women from 45 to 70 years old of the Cancer Institute SOLCA – Cuenca. METHODS: A case-control study was performed; the universe included patients who underwent a mammographic study at the Cancer Institute SOLCA Cuenca – Ecuador during the period 2013 – 2015. The definition of case of control was given by the diagnosis of breast cancer confirmed by histopathological study; the relationship between high-risk breast density (C and D) and breast cancer was evaluated. Descriptive statistics, risk and association analysis were used; data were processed using statistical program SPSS version 22.0. RESULTS: The average age was 55.3 years (± 7.62). Mammary density C and D was associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer OR 8.58 (IC 3.5 - 20.60, p= 0.001). The main mammographic findings present in patients with malignant pathology were: amorphous calcifications p= 0.014, pleomorphic fine calcifications p= ≤0.001, presence of irregular, hyperdense and speculated nodules p= ≤0.001, focal asymmetry p= ≤0.001, distortion of the architecture of fibroglandular tissue p= ≤0.001, cutaneous retraction p= 0.029, cutaneous thickening p= ≤0.001, and the presence of lymph nodes of suspicious morphology p= 0.032. CONCLUSION: Type C and D breast density is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. It is necessary to implement prevention policies that facilitate timely notification, diagnosis and specific management of these patients.","PeriodicalId":417745,"journal":{"name":"Revista Médica del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121918483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cuenca-Ecuador, 2017. BACKGROUND: The evaluation of mental health in health services is not carried out on a regular basis. This led to an underreport diagnosis that affected the planning and distribution of resources. The Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview is a brief and structured interview that allows diagnosing the main psychiatric disorders with high reliability when compared similar evaluations. The aim of this study was to characterize the application of this instrument in the population that went to the first level care units. METHODS: Cross-sectional descriptive study with a sample of 155 people who attended the first level centers of the urban and rural communities in Cuenca. The Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview and a survey were applied to collect additional information related to the studied variables. The results were analyzed in SPSS 25.0. RESULTS: The average time of application of the test was 21.6 minutes without significant difference between sex, age and instruction; and 20.93 minutes in those with psychiatric disorders. Depressive disorder was the most frequent and it was present in widowed, uneducated and disabled people. CONCLUSION: No significant difference was found between the test application times considering the different demographic variables with respect to the standard model, so it is considered as a useful tool to be used in the first level of care.","PeriodicalId":417745,"journal":{"name":"Revista Médica del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130710520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
