Treating disclosed signals as positive or negative depends on the implicit contextual frames of reference. Such frames represent a combination of legitimate human resource practices, processes, initiatives, values and beliefs. The research explores applicability of human resource management systems, also known as work systems, within the confines of such frames. Additional attention is paid to the reasons of variety in the human resource disclosures and the rationale of preferring one work system over the other despite limited freedom of choice among available standards. Through analysis of the content, extent and quality of the employees-related disclosure by 18 top banks in Russia for the 2016 period, the research discusses opportunities and barriers of work systems as the frames of reference for HR disclosure. Research design relies on thematic and content analysis to compare existing standards with the ones proposed by the strategic human resource management literature.","PeriodicalId":41639,"journal":{"name":"Rossiiskii Zhurnal Menedzhmenta-Russian Management Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67783409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Egoistic urges of the members of the collective, under the law of diminishing returns, give rise to the free-rider problem. Cooperation among agents in an environment where some individuals are characterised by opportunistic tendencies is impaired within a large group due to deficit of trust, yet it is possible within a small group (a coalition) based on interpersonal trust. By deploying a coalitional strategy aimed at maximizing coalitional gains, each individual member of the large group increases their gain. To attain a stable coalition, an agreement must be formed among agents implying adherence to conditions of individual rationality by all members of the collective and compatibility stimuli for all members of the coalition. We further set down the content of such an agreement and calculate side payments that guarantee adherence to conditions necessary for sustainable cooperation, as well as the investment of requisite effort by coalition members.","PeriodicalId":41639,"journal":{"name":"Rossiiskii Zhurnal Menedzhmenta-Russian Management Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67783419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since recent decisions of European Commission after investigations against Google in 2017 and 2018, and Bundeskartellamt against Facebook in 2019, the standards of liability for abuses applied by competition authorities will influence business models of digital platforms. This paper summarizes theories of harm applied by BRICS competition authorities applied towards multi-sided platforms under investigations. One may expect that BRICS approach to be harsher compared to mature competition jurisdictions. However, a comparison shows that discrimination and tying with exclusionary effects have been the focus of investigations and decisions in BRICS. Remedies in the infringement decisions are intended to protect rivalry through “no restriction of multihoming” conditions. There is no evidence that BRICS authorities apply a specific economic theory of multi-sided platforms. At the same time, BRICS competition enforcement could be applied as one of the legal instruments when one platform tries to crowd out another from global markets.","PeriodicalId":41639,"journal":{"name":"Rossiiskii Zhurnal Menedzhmenta-Russian Management Journal","volume":"17 8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67783621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research methodology is based on real options approach. We model companies’ R&D expenditures as payments for the real option, which is the right of a company to invest in real assets in the future, and therefore to ensure business development. The main result is a valuation model, which includes several relevant factors. While existing research papers apply real options approach mostly to the R&D projects of particular companies or within particular industries and situations, the current paper applies the corresponding methodology in general and aggregated setting. We hope that it will contribute to understanding of R&D intensity in large innovative companies.","PeriodicalId":41639,"journal":{"name":"Rossiiskii Zhurnal Menedzhmenta-Russian Management Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46113077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
