However, the network underutilization during low traffic periods (e.g., night zone) enables the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to save energy by having their traffic served by third-party SCs, thus being able to switch off their BSs. In this paper, we propose a novel market approach to foster the opportunistic utilization of unexploited SCs capacity, where the MNOs lease the resources of third-party SCs and deactivate their BSs. Motivated by the conflicting interests of the MNOs and the restricted capacity of the SCs that is not adequate to carry the whole traffic in multi-operator scenarios, we introduce a combinatorial auction framework, which includes: i) a bidding strategy, ii) a resource allocation scheme, and iii) a pricing rule. We propose a multiobjective framework to provide an energy efficient solution for the resource allocation problem and we provide extensive analytical and experimental results to estimate the potential energy savings.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122990215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FB-OFDM adopts complex modulation and filtering on subcarrier level. It is compatible to CP-OFDM utilized by LTE and its transceiver can be implemented by simple polyphase filter. Moreover, FB-OFDM system can support asynchrony between subcarriers and choose pulse function adaptively under different scenarios. A pulse function that has good locality in both time and frequency domain is also constructed based on root raised cosine function. Simulation results are provided to validate the performance of FB-OFDM and the proposed pulse function.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132306168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we investigate the potential of combining micro-wave (microWave) and millimeter-wave (mmWave) technologies in outdoor scenarios. We first envision the design and architecture of a novel 5G microWave/mmWave Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) where the mmWave backhaul is integrated. Next, we discuss a Service-Driven Dynamic Resource Radio Management system for the proposed architecture and propose a Multi-Layer Dynamic Transmission Scheme, which enables cooperation between different network slices, increasing the degrees of freedom of the overall system. Finally, we present a preliminary analytical and experimental study of the performance of the proposed 5G microWave/mmWave HetNet, highlighting the significant benefits that a mmWave network achieves with flexible, dynamic support from microWave technologies.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114690745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile client nodes can be smart/connected cars in civilian use cases, or any kind of operational vehicles and/or robots/drones in military cases. Opportunistic networks will be formed in an ad hoc manner and will be dynamically reconfigured through the suitable self-organization and adjustment of the position and coordination of MAPs so as to provide appropriate Quality of Service (QoS) levels towards mobile client nodes. Such applications can be exploited in a military context in order to establish communications in remote areas and battlefields where fixed communication infrastructure is not available or destroyed. The desired outcome of this effort is to proceed to simulation activities for the realization of the proof of concept.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126003317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is the case of either classical reverse path forwarding schemes, as well as more recent information centric networking approaches. Perhaps surprisingly, this paper shows that such capability is already somewhat at reach in current OpenFlow switch architectures: its support requires only very marginal modification of the existing OpenFlow hardware. We support our claim with a concrete hardware proof-of-concept implementation, and we show, with the help of both traditional reverse path schemes and original approaches, how such functionality can be programmed via a platform-agnostic abstraction.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129444625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They cut down many barriers that have potentially prevented developing new applications for mobile networks by introducing significantly higher data rates, lower delays, and better energy efficiency. 5G is not only an evolution of radio technology. The basis of the 5G concept is built upon a strong emphasis on requirements of various applications and their use scenarios. To support application development for 5G networks, test networks are playing an essential role. This paper presents a 5G test network, which is developed and deployed in Oulu, Finland, together with a number of different partners closely involved in the development and specification of the 5G technology. The test network targets to serve various application developers by providing extensive test facilities in a carrier-grade state-of-the-art network.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130956452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This brings a new set of challenges for managing the network due to the diversity and the sheer size of the network. It will be necessary for the network to largely manage itself and deal with organisation, configuration, security, and optimisation issues. This paper proposes an architecture of an autonomic self-managing network based on Network Function Virtualization, which is capable of achieving or balancing objectives such as high QoS, low energy usage and operational efficiency. The main novelty of the architecture is the Cognitive Smart Engine introduced to enable Machine Learning, particularly (near) real-time learning, in order to dynamically adapt resources to the immediate requirements of the virtual network functions, while minimizing performance degradations to fulfill SLA requirements. This architecture is built within the CogNet European Horizon 2020 project, which refers to Cognitive Networks.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122307935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scheme is compared with a well-known scheme, nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA), which is based on superposition coding. Both the schemes can increase the spectral efficiency by supporting two users in the same frequency band and time slot. To compare them, we consider the sum rate, which is the sum of achievable rates of uplink and downlink transmissions of two users, and study a sum rate maximization problem with transmission power constraints. Based on sum rate analysis, we can show that each scheme can perform better than the other under different conditions. Thus, we can enjoy a degree of freedom to choose one of them depending on conditions to improve the spectral efficiency.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126578799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the major issues on SDN is the multipath routing protocols due to its complexity of optimum path selection among the multiple routes. In this paper, we focus on Multipath TCP (MPTCP). MPTCP is an extension of TCP that increases the throughput of TCP communication significantly by utilizing multiple paths transmission rather than a single path. We consider the multipath routing problem as a k Max-Min bandwidth disjoint paths one. The problem is to find k disjoint paths with relative higher throughput and the smallest bottleneck bandwidth of the k paths is the maximum. Since this problem is NP-complete, we propose a heuristic algorithm to solve this problem in polynomial time. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm perform better than previous work in terms of average throughput and average hop count.","PeriodicalId":416277,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC)","volume":"74 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132283603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
