In this paper we show the different behaviors of several objective metrics designed to match subjective results over different audio sequences for several audio distortions. When packet transmission takes place, the intermediate relay nodes between the source node and the destination node are not known a priori. Through network control signaling, the relay nodes are determined by estimating the physical layer parameters, specifically the link quality between the source and the possible relay, the relative angular position and relative speed of the source and relay nodes with respect to the destination node. The relative speed of the nodes is estimated through Doppler measurement or through its equivalent via knowledge of consecutive node positions. The routing scheme limits the number of hops and takes advantage of the network mobility, thus limiting energy consumption and network interference. We are interested in the case of two cooperating sources which want to transmit to the same destination. In this context, two slight improvements of the protocol provide a better DMT and lower error rates. We also propose to use a decode-and-forward strategy for the same system and thus define the CMA-IDF, based on the incomplete decoding proposed in. Based on recently found outer bounds on the capacity region of unfaded IFCs, we determine the power allocation that maximizes a sum-rate outer bound. With this power allocation both users are simultaneously active when the power of the interfering signals is small relative to the power of the intended signals. Otherwise, only the user with the largest fading gain is active, similar to multi-access and broadcast channels. By considering a simplified version of the Han-Kobayashi region, we derive the power allocation that maximizes a sum-rate inner bound. Numerical results for iid Rayleigh fading show that the inner and our bounds are very close to one another. In their seminal analysis, Reed, Mallett and Brennan analytically characterized the loss in SINR (ldquoRMB lossrdquo) realized due to the use of an estimate of the interference environment with a finite set of samples relative to the exact result under certain conditions. While providing several well-known ldquorules-of-thumbrdquo that allows the RMB loss to be incorporated into system level analysis, this original formulation can not generally be directly applied to collected radar data since it assumes knowledge of the exact interference covariance which typically is not available. In this paper, the RMB loss is extended to the practical situation where the exact covariance is not available, as with collected radar data. As a consequence, both the adaptive weight and residual interference-plus-noise power must be estimated in computing SINR. Three new approaches for accomplishing this are analyzed and compared in terms of their theoretically derived probability distribution functions, means and variances relative to each other as well as the original RMB loss result. The developed theory is extensively verified with simulation results. A key result is the need for two independent sets of training data to accurately compute the SINR when sample support is limited. New rules-of-thumb are suggested for the amount of training data needed from these two sets of data (i.e. two groups of local range data) to achieve an accurate assessment of SINR loss. We consider the detection of targets in compound-Gaussian clutter fitting for example scatterers with heavy-tailed distributions for high-resolution and/or low-grazing-angle radars in the presence of sea or foliage clutter. First, we introduce a data model using the inverse gamma distribution to represent the clutter texture. When the assumptions are satisfied, MCA yields better or even perfect solutions compared to other autofocus methods. However, the performance is very sensitive to the violation of the one-dimensional defocusing assumption; thus it should not be used with polar formatting. Fortunately, the problem can be solved if we reverse the order of two steps in the image formation process and apply MCA to a warped version of the image, which is obtained by inverse Fourier transforming the polar-grid data without interpolation. We consider a two-stage protocol: At the first stage, two terminals simultaneously transmit data packets towards a relaying node. The relay maps the received signal into a discrete constellation using appropriate network coding, after which it is broadcasted to the terminals at the second stage. In our previous work, it has been revealed that network coding should be adaptively changed according to the channel state information, and unconventional signalling such as 5QAM can improve throughput for some channel conditions. The optimal hard decision detection for MIMO wireless systems is the maximum likelihood (ML) detector. ML detection is attractive due to its superior performance (in terms of BER). However, direct implementation grows exponentially with the number of antennas and the modulation scheme, making its ASIC or FPGA implementation infeasible for all but low-density modulation schemes using a small number of antennas. Sphere decoding (SD) solves the ML detection problem in a computationally efficient manner. However, even with this complexity reduction, real-time implementation on a DSP processor is generally not feasible and high-performance parallel computing platforms such as FPGAs are increasingly being employed for this class of applications. The sphere detection problem affords many opportunities for algorithm and micro-architecture optimizations and tradeoffs.
