S tega gledišča je mogoče razložiti tudi Nietzschejevo odločitev, da je glavno težišče svoje kritike usmeril v intervencijo zoper potekajoči proces, ki ga imenuje Rangverschiebung, »premena v rangiranju« razmerja med filozofijo in znanostjo. Na ta način filozofsko kritiko že v izhodišču postavi na teren, ki ji onemogoča slediti idealu objektivnosti, h kateremu sicer spontano inklinira. Prvi del besedila obravnava epistemološki vidik Nietzschejeve kritike objektivnosti, se pravi, pojasni zakaj (in kako) je Nietzsche zavračal vse obstoječe filozofske kriterije utemeljitve objektivnega spoznanja. Can a political project for radical social transformation simply be a generalisation of the dynamics emerging within contemporary social dynamics? How can we think the political and organisational labour needed to turn these elements into new social forms? In Logics of Worlds, Badiou turns his attention to the modes by which this subject appears in a world. It does so by being incorporated as a subjectivizable body, a body of truth. As opposed to Being and Event, the demonstration of this argument takes shape according to two distinct levels, that of a “calculated phenomenology” and that of a formalism in which category theory provides a general logic, the combination of which delineates an “onto-logic”. Bolz","doi":"10.3986/FV.41.2.06","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3986/FV.41.2.06","url":null,"abstract":"This article develops a criticism of Alain Badiou’s assertion that “mathematics is ontology.” I argue that despite appearances to the contrary, Badiou’s case for bringing set theory and ontology together is problematic. To arrive at this judgment, I explore how a case for the identification of mathematics and ontology could work. In short, ontology would have to be characterised to make it evident that set theory can contribute to it fundamentally. This is indeed how Badiou proceeds in Being and Event. I review his descriptions of the ontological problematic at some length here, only to argue that set theory is a poor fit. Although philosophers working on questions of being were certainly occupied with matters of oneness and the part-whole relationship, I argue that Badiou’s discussion of philosophical sources points towards a mereological treatment, not a set-theoretic one. As such, the name has traditionally been tied to the concept of truth as adequatio or correspondence between knowledge and being, intellect and thing, or proposition and reality. Accordingly, the problem of naming lies at the core of the issues of objectivity (truth) and fiction, as addressed in this issue of Filozofski vestnik. Nonetheless, the text, given its survey of migrants and neoliberal capitalism, reads as a perfectly situated critique given the contemporary political climate that we are currently imbricated in. Just in the United States, Black Lives Matter protests continue to vehemently challenge unbridled police violence while nascent authoritarian leaders (e.g., Donald Trump, Victor Orbán, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Jair Bolsonaro) attempt to stymie any structural economic agenda, automatic stabilizers, or universal single-payer healthcare program that would counter the effects of COVID-19 while, simultaneously, relieving corporations of any financial pressure. While Badiou’s intervention is at the level of a rather specific issue—migration and ethics—the text is galvanized by a more general critique of globalized neoliberal capitalism. It starts with a deception, as we become aware of the impossibility of reading the text along the lines of a regular understanding of regular meanings: instead, the speculative presentation needs to be written while reading. Philosophy takes place in this actualisation of the speculative, and Hegel appears within the text not as its author, but as the site of the speculative, in which he disappears at the same time. This first circle creates a model for the development of spirit in which the theological form of the kenosis is actualised.
