They have sufficiently small epoxy width (/spl sim/77 81 /spl mu/m) and can be treated as effective homogeneous media. The mode coupling theory and a finite element model (FEM) are applied to predict the thickness (f/sub T/), lateral (f/sub L/), radial (f/sub R/) and wall-thickness (f/sub W/) resonances of the composite rings. As the frequencies and electromechanical coupling coefficients play a significant role in the performance of composite transducer, it is important to know how these parameters change with /spl Phi/. Good agreements are found between the experimental results and the FEM simulations. It is obvious that f/sub R/ and f/sub W/ vibrations greatly deteriorate at low value of /spl Phi/. To avoid unwanted modes from coupling to f/sub T/, the thickness and configuration of the PZT elements in the rings should be optimized.","PeriodicalId":415725,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics, 2002. The temperature dependent nature of the domain reversal and domain structures of such ferroelectric crystals have been quantitatively analyzed. Various constituent chemical bonds and oxygen octahedra (formed by these bonds) of ferroelectric lithium niobate crystals are utilized as the starting point of this work. At low temperatures, the domain structure is simplex and regular owing to the regular occupancy of constituent ions at the corresponding lattice sites (of the space group R3c). With temperature increasing, the domain structure of the ferroelectric lithium niobate crystal becomes complex, due to the complicated site occupancies of constituent ions. At high temperatures, the multi-domain is formed owing to the fact that vacant sites are energetically available for Li/sup +/ cations (i.e., the random location of Li/sup +/ cations in the crystallographic frame).","PeriodicalId":415725,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics, 2002. Highly c-axis prefer-oriented AlN thin films deposited on z-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ substrates were obtained by reactive rf magnetron sputtering. The results of our experiments showed that F/sub c/ of SAW filter was increased significantly for the increase of h//spl lambda/, where h was the AlN film thickness and /spl lambda/ was the wavelength of SAW. Comparing the SAW propagate along with the z-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ single crystal, the AlN/LiNbO/sub 3/ based surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices could improve the velocity of SAW. Serial model and parallel model are two extremes of mixing manner. For the random mixture of fine particles, which does not have a remarkable aspect ratio, customarily the logarithmic mixing rule has been applied. But, the logarithmic mixing rule does not estimate the correct apparent permittivity in low or high mixing rate. The author proposed new equation for the mixing rule that gives better agreement with measured value for whole range of mixing rate compared to the logarithmic rule. In this paper, a desirable refinement on the equation in previous paper is made to adapt to the structural image of actual compound and then the equation has been expanded to the complex permittivity to apply the equation on the dissipative materials cases.","PeriodicalId":415725,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics, 2002. K/sub 2/Sr/sub 4/Nb/sub 10/O/sub 30/-based dielectric ceramics, having the tetragonal tungsten bronze structure (TTB), which display a high permittivity and flat /spl epsiv/ curves meeting the X7R specification. BaTiO/sub 3/-based ferroelectric ceramics are classic dielectric materials for ceramic capacitors. Results were obtained by mixing compounds with closely related structures, such as the tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) niobate K/sub 2/Sr/sub 4/Nb/sub 10/O/sub 30/ (KSN) and the perovskite BaTiO/sub 3/ (BT). Phase compositions were analyzed by using XRD and the microstructure was investigated by SEM. The present study explores the dielectric curves /spl epsiv/ of the composition (K/sub 2/Sr/sub 4/Nb/sub 10/O/sub 30/)/sub x//spl middot/(BaTiO/sub 3/)/sub 1-x/ with x = 0.1-0.9 where x means the weight ratio of KSN. The dielectric constant at room temperature is lowest at x = 0.4. When x is between 0.4 and 0.7, /spl epsiv/ curves of the ceramic composites present a linear decrease with the temperature. The influences of different dopants (Li/sup +/, Sr/sup 2+/, Y/sup 3+/) on diffuse dielectric properties and micro-structure were studied. HREM, SAED, Raman spectra and XPS were used to study small changes of ordering degree of PMN systems. The research proved that diffuse phase transition (DPT) is caused by the formation of ordered structure at B site (Mg/sup 2+/:Nb/sup 5+/=1:1). The degree of DPT can be contrasted from dielectric properties, and has direct relation with ordering degree of microstructure. A phase-transition like internal friction peak associated with Young's modulus softening has been observed at temperature T/sub R-F/, which can be attributed to the Relaxor to Ferroelectrics (R-F) phase transition. Therefore, the R-F phase transition can be explained in terms of the paraelectric to ferroelectric phase transition of paraelectric matrix in the materials. The elements are made from a novel fine-grain lead titanate which was micromachined using a laser to form the kerfs. Resonance methods showed the lead titanate exhibited electromechanical properties similar to bulk materials, including a thickness coupling k/sub t/ of 0.49 and low permittivity (/spl epsiv//sub 33//sup S///spl epsiv//sub 0/=178). An average center frequency of 53 MHz with 40% bandwidth was obtained across all the elements. Crosstalk levels were below -20 dB in water. The Pb[(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)/sub 1-x/Zr/sub x/]O/sub 3/ ceramics system can be fired at lower than 950/spl deg/C. Perovskite phases are not confirmed in the Pb(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)O/sub 3/ and Pb[(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)/sub 0.75/Zr/sub 0.25/]O/sub 3/ ceramics. Pure perovskite phase ceramics are obtained with a Pb[(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)/sub 0.25/Zr/sub 0.75/]O/sub 3/ composition. Dielectric constant and dissipation factors of the Pb[(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)/sub 0.25/Zr/sub 0.75/]O/sub 3/ sample at 100 KHz are 187 and 2.2% at 25/spl deg/C. Curie temperature (Tc) of the Pb[(Mg/sub 1/3/V/sub 2/3/)/sub 0.25/Zr/sub 0.75/]O/sub 3/ ceramics is 202/spl deg/C which is lower than that of pure PbZrO/sub 3/.","PeriodicalId":415725,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics, 2002.
