We present a solar energy harvesting hardware to store energy in supercapacitors that supply power to the wireless sensor nodes in a WSN based bridge monitoring system. A control circuit with the ultra-low power consumption components is designed to prevent further energy loss when the voltage dropped below a given cutoff voltage and to make sure the super capacitor charging circuit works close to the maximum power point of a solar panel and to the operating voltage of wireless sensor node. Design goals of the energy harvesting and storage circuit include low-cost, low-power consumption, and a simple design. The performance of the proposed circuit has been evaluated on the basis of the simulation and data logging through the deployed self-powered system prototype on the bridge. Results show that the designed harvesting hardware can achieve self-sustainability during the fluctuating light conditions and able to swift back to operation above cutoff voltage.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117258653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Any activity or work that a person performs also generates emotions. Considering the above two statements it can assume that people tend to associate music with certain activity if it induces emotions that are in sync with it. In today's world of infinite storage, the number of songs that a user has is ever increasing. With the increased number of songs, listening music in a way one likes has become difficult. Playlist provide us a way to better organize our music library. These can be created manually or by using various smart playlist creators that generates them by analyzing various components of music files used by the user. In the current scenario the playlist created has a specific number of tracks which are played over and over again, with the only variation occurring being in the order in which songs are played. Also the songs that are not part of any playlist are left redundant, occupying useful memory. Our work focuses on the reducing the number of redundant songs in the music library while creating playlist. We have worked on grouping songs with similar emotional effect together in a segment, and then creating a dynamic playlist every time the user plays music. The results show that as the system is provided with required input, we get a robust playlist for each segment, which consist of diverse mix of songs having similar emotional perception. The playlist created is a non monotonous collection of music which is emotionally supportive to the listener towards the work he is doing.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115580050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technology is capable of fast, time-synchronized data that includes phase angles of the electrical measurements. When the energy management system (EMS) has access to the phasor representations of different electrical measurements, it opens the possibilities of more precise system monitoring. In the conventional measurement schemes, state estimation is dependent on magnitude measurements, power metering, low-resolution data, and physical estimates of grid facilities, such as transmission lines. It is not difficult to see that physical estimates of this expansive system can dramatically impact the accuracy of system monitoring. In this paper, data analysis and mathematical concepts are the primary methods of analysis. Measures for the evaluation involve frequency response, error measurements, and interference identification. In the analysis performed, it has been found that frequency can be directly linked to fault events. Also, the total vector error (TVE) of the synchrophasor data with respect to the conventional state estimations is near the compliant level of 1% for sufficient error tolerance. Although this is not a complete success, it does suggest that a synchrophasor-based state estimator scheme may very well support the compliance of the data. If the state estimator were supported by the high-resolution phasor measurements, this would conceivably satisfy the goals set forth by industry standards. Lastly, interference from storm conditions has also been analyzed, and some significant voltage disturbances were observed. These quick, detailed grid measurements could alleviate issues that have resulted from growing power system complexity. Synchrophasor technology has real potential for wide-area monitoring and system awareness.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126747647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new design of distributed network coding is introduced. The proposed design are based on algebraic constructions in Finite Fields using the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT). These set of codes provides an alternative to Generalized Dynamic Network Codes (GDNC) and are based on the Hamming distance metric. Using this metric, the codes have maximum diversity and scales over large networks. In our work, we show that a compromise on the Field Size becomes necessary for enforcing the distributed Network codes over large networks. While the diversity offered by these codes are optimum, a unique feature of these codes are the ease of generation and scalability to larger network sizes. Results are provided and compared with theoretical evaluations.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"335 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122747027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The k Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) text classification algorithm is among the most accurate classification approaches, but is also among the most computationally expensive. In this paper, we propose accelerating k-NN using a novel reconfigurable hardware based architecture. More specifically, we accelerate a k-NN application's core with an FPGA-based sparse matrix vector multiplication coprocessor. On average our implementation shows a speed up factor of 15 over a naïve single threaded CPU implementation of k-NN text classification for our datasets, and a speed up factor of 1.5 over a 32-threaded parallelized CPU implementation.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131305703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the probability density function (pdf) of the end to end signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the system is approximated as a weighted sum of Gaussian pdfs using the Gaussian finite mixture technique with expectation maximization. The approximated pdf is then utilized to derive a closed form expression for the outage capacity of the system in terms of a weighted sum of Q-functions. Numerical results show close agreement between simulation and analytical results.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129535756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate a technique in which convolutional encoding and interleaving are combined with the partial differential space time orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The estimation of channel parameters is done using modified local splines method. Space diversity is applied to OFDM for overall improvement of the system performance. The signals transmitted through the time-varying channel experiences multipath fading and results in burst error condition. This burst error degrades the performance of the system and should be overcome by appending a convolutional encoder and an interleaver at the transmitter end and similarly using a deinterleaver and a Viterbi decoder at the receiver end. To combat intercarrier interference (ICI), channel estimation should be done. Another method which does not require channel estimation to overcome ICI is called differential detection. This method is only valid for low Doppler. For high Doppler conditions, differential detection is combined with channel estimation for space time OFDM. This paper compares the performance evaluation of convolutional encoded partial differential ST-OFDM with three other different schemes namely; partial differential ST-OFDM, convolutional encoded coherent ST-OFDM and coherent ST-OFDM. The simulation results show that convolutional encoded partial differential ST-OFDM performs better than other mentioned schemes. Performances have been evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER), residual ICI power and signal power to ICI power ratio.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133868497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we study the radiation induced degradation to the brushless DC (BLDC) motor in the robot servo systems and analyze how its performance changes due to radiation induced demagnetization. The radiation demagnetization factor is introduced into the electromagnetic model of the BLDC motor, and the motor performance under the PWM control method is compared with the one without radiation degradation. The result illustrates that the radiation will decrease the motor power and cause controlability loss in the robot servo systems.","PeriodicalId":415614,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology (EIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132503260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
