The study is performed for the monochrome and color (contrast based) echocardiograms that allow advanced evaluation of myocardial function. The analysis includes investigation of different texture feature selection methods and application of multilayer neural network, Support Vector Machine, and decision tree based Adaboost algorithm for recovery prediction. The obtained preliminary results are promising; estimated prediction error is lower than 30% for all used prediction tools.","PeriodicalId":413894,"journal":{"name":"2016 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131135162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially with the increasing demand on higher resolutions and frame rates, parallel decoding becomes very useful to meet the throughput requirements. Parallel decoding is conventionally enabled by inserting markers into the variable length code (VLC) stream. The markers allow for an easy separation of the sub-streams in order to be processed in parallel. The use of markers, however, adversely affects the compression making it unfavorable especially when the bandwidth of the channel is almost fully utilized. In a previous work, we proposed a proof of concept marker-free architecture that enables parallel decoding exhibiting the feasibility of the solution. In this paper, an efficient marker-free architecture is proposed. The memory requirements and the performance of the architecture are thoroughly analyzed. The architecture preserves the original compression factor of the system in contrary to the marker-based approaches. In the experimental results, it is shown that the architecture can be readily configured to drive up to 20 parallel decoders on a medium range FPGA at high clock rates. In addition, the hardware resources in terms of LUTs, registers and block RAMs are reported from which it can be seen that the resources tend to scale linearly with the number of decoders.","PeriodicalId":413894,"journal":{"name":"2016 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126602442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With an increasing availability of low-cost micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) and powerful processing units, embedded systems are capable of recording and processing several audio signals in realtime. In this paper, an overview of the entire signal processing chain from audio signal acquisition with an array of MEMS microphones to the signal enhancement using directional filtering is provided. In food inspection system the boxing often is in a rectangular shape. This knowledge can be used to rectify the image data, an important step in the alignment stage. In case of low contrast between boxing and background, the detected contour may differ significantly from the actual values. In this paper the performance of the Hough transform and the RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC)-algorithm are evaluated relating to the correct extraction of the boxing contour out of contour data distorted by position errors of the outer shape. The evaluation results indicate the superiority of the RANSAC algorithm with respect to scalability, robustness and execution time.","PeriodicalId":413894,"journal":{"name":"2016 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130343450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For that study the recorded samples of the “a-e-i-o-u” exercise is analysed. Some significant parameters describing voice have been estimated. Among the estimated parameters are: pitch, calculated with the use of autocorrelation method, values of the first five harmonics, set of parameters containing first five formants and the value of vibrato parameter. The analysis of those parameters allowed, among others, to draw conclusions about dependencies of their values for different sung vowels. The study is a part of a broader research on singing voice signal analysis. The results may contribute to the development of the diagnostics tools for computer analysis of singer's and speaker's voices. The authors try to find an answer to the question whether the dependencies observed between the parameters may be useful to evaluate the quality of singing. This may be useful when designing a computer based singing assessment systems.","PeriodicalId":413894,"journal":{"name":"2016 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131479999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
