This continues to be topical with CQC inspections, increased data transparency concentrating on patient safety and an increasing medical legal culture. Every practice in England has now completed their CQC inspections. The results are encouraging 4% were rated outstanding, 86% were good, 8% were requires improvement and 2% were inadequate overall. This is significantly better than other parts of the health and social care system. It confirms the hard work carried out by management, administrators and clinicians in general practice. We have updated the CQC section to reflect the new system of the risk based proportionate approach to future CQC inspections, which may mean a good or outstanding practice may not get a face to face inspection for 5 years. Instead they will have to do a desktop declaration on a yearly basis. We have also put in a section under Significant Event Analysis which reminds practices managers of events that are notifiable to the CQC. Despite all the changes happening in general practice, with primary care networks, we still need to concentrate on the basics of clinical governance to ensure safe patient care.
