La chanson est assez caractéristique des hybridations pop-savantes dont l’artiste est coutumière. Le personnage féminin mis en scène dans « The Infant Kiss », comme souvent chez Kate Bush, est non seulement incarné sur un mode intimiste grâce à une vocalité nuancée, mais aussi à travers une instrumentation et un environnement sonore qui cultivent une impression d’intimité.
