The data were gathered from two independent samples consisting of undergraduate and graduate students from four different universities in the Black Sea region of Turkey. After the translation procedure, the psychometric properties of the TV-CTDS, including factor structure, measurement invariance, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and reliability, were investigated. The results of the study revealed that the two-factor model (critical openness and reflective skepticism) of the TV-CTDS presented a better fit to the data than the one-factor model, and two-factor model is invariant across different samples (undergraduate and graduate students) and genders. Also, the TV-CTDS showed convergent validity and discriminant validity across two different samples, and its internal consistency was adequate. Therefore, it can be said that the TV-CTDS can be used by educators, researchers, and professionals to assess undergraduate and graduate students’ critical thinking dispositions in Turkey.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123038468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to explore the classroom management experiences of preschool teachers who have refugee students in their classrooms. In this way, this research examines the experiences of teachers about how they make sense of the difficulties they face in the classroom and the strategies they develop to combat them. Twenty-one preschool teachers with refugee students in their classrooms were included in this qualitative study through criterion purposive-measure sampling method. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using content analysis. Research findings showed that the difficulties experienced by teachers in terms of classroom management with the presence of refugee students in their classrooms were listed under the categories of grouping tendency, difficulties in implementation, need for additional activities, lack of time, communication problems, exhibiting unwanted behaviors, adaptation problems, tendency to disobey rules and cultural differences. Furthermore, the study revealed what kind of solutions teachers applied in terms of classroom management for the difficulties arising from the presence of refugee students in the classroom. The teachers used some strategies such as using visual elements, mainstreaming, considering individual differences, increasing comprehensibility, peer support, social communication, language activities, using reinforcement, intensive communication, and family support. In line with the results of the research, suggestions for future research and practices are discussed.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127366337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The population of this study consists of 171 teachers and teacher candidates for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and 202 teachers for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), who teach Arabic in Turkey. The study population was reached through Google Forms in January and June 2022. Due to the difficulty and limitation of reaching Arabic language teachers, convenient sampling and snowball sampling methods were used in the selection of the study sample. The draft scale items created as a result of the literature review were evaluated by field experts for face and content validity, and the scale was finalized. EFA was used to test construct validity. The results of the analysis showed that the scale consisted of 23 items with two sub-dimensions. Sub-dimensions explain 56.95% of the variance. DFA was performed to validate the obtained results. The fitness values reached by DFA included CMIN/df=2.028, RMSEA=.072, CFI=.920, IFI=.921, and SRMR=.074. In general, it was determined that the CMIN/df fitness values, perfect fitness values, and other fitness coefficients were at an acceptable fitness level. The item discrimination level of the scale was found to be significant in favor of the upper group. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients were examined to determine the reliability of the scale. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients were 0.944 for the first sub-factor, 0.855 for the second sub-factor, and 0.944 for the whole scale. As a result of the analyses made, it was concluded that the two-factor scale consisting of 23 items was valid and reliable. All these findings revealed that the measurement tool has a structure that can measure the attitude of Arabic language teachers towards teaching Arabic.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127412101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study also aimed to examine the multidimensional perceived social support by Syrian asylum seekers between the impacts of stressful life events they were exposed to and their attitudes towards seeking psychological help in terms of mediating role. Method: The study population of the research consists of Syrian refugees who migrated to Turkey because of the Syrian war. A total of 467 Syrian asylum seekers (187 women, 280 men) aged between 18-65 years participated in the study. The Impact of Life Events Scale, the Attitude Towards Seeking Psychological Help Scale, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support were used as data collection tools. This study analyzed the mediating effect of the multidimensional perceived social support factor between stressful life events and the attitude factor towards seeking professional psychological help using structural equation modeling. Results: It has been observed that social support significantly affects Syrian refugees' attitudes towards seeking psychological help. In addition, it is thought that the negative relationship between stressful life events and social support affects attitudes towards seeking psychological help and reveals self-hiding behavior in this population. In addition, it is believed that a positive attitude toward seeking psychological help may be beneficial if it is accompanied by qualified social support.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114566223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study group for the document review-based research consists of publications published between 2011 and 2022 that examine the association between fluent reading and reading skills in Web of Science, Tr-index, Google Scholar, and Eric. According to the \" Inclusion Criteria\" developed by the researchers, fifteen studies were included in the research for analysis after being pre-evaluated. When the studies comprising the study group were examined using the collected codes, it was revealed that there was a strong association between reading accuracy, reading speed, prosodic reading, and reading comprehension. In other words, there is a linear link between these skills that are supposed to be acquired during the read-write process, and these talents are complementary. Therefore, it is recommended to raise awareness and place a greater emphasis on these skills to guarantee that they are acquired optimally during elementary school.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114984078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were 291 supervisees who had participated in individual counseling practicum courses either in undergraduate or graduate Psychological Counseling and Guidance program in Turkish universities. Data were collected using the Brief Form of the Supervisory Working Alliance Inventory (BSWAI-T), Supervisee Disclosure in Supervision Scale (SDSS), and Supervisory Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ). Research results indicated that supervisory working alliance made direct contributions to supervisory satisfaction. In addition, the supervisory working alliance contributed indirectly to supervisory satisfaction via supervisee disclosure in supervision. Supervisory working alliance and supervisee disclosure in supervision explained 56% of the variance in supervisory satisfaction. This study offers novel insights into the role of supervisee disclosure in supervision as an underlying mechanism that operates on the influence of supervisory working alliance on supervisory satisfaction. Implications for the supervision process and counselor training are discussed.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127928909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This preliminary study aims to develop a brief tool (SITS: Sensitivity to Infection Threats Scale) that measures individuals’ health sensitivity to infection threats. The present research utilized the Brief Symptom Inventory—phobic anxiety and hostility subscales and the newly developed SITS. The reliability and validity of SITS were examined through construct, divergent, and convergent validity as well as internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The underlying dimensions were explored through an exploratory factor analysis (EFA N = 142; Mage = 20.29, SDage = 2.34), and the EFA dimensions were confirmed through a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA N = 236; Mage = 20.36, SDage = 2.24). The EFA and CFA results supported a correlated four-factor model and the 20-item structure of the SITS. These four factors included Preoccupied, Avoidant, Physiological, and Cautionary Sensitivities. The overall scale and subscales had good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and convergent and divergent validity. The SITS is a reliable scale and has the potential to deepen our understanding of human behaviour in responding to infection threats.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"266 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127544755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although CTT is the preferred methodology in scale development research in the Republic of Turkey, the IRT methodology has started to gain traction in recent years. In this study, we used the systematic review methodology to review scale development research in Turkey that used the IRT procedures. Results revealed that most of the studies were conducted in 2017. Most of the studies have a sufficient sample size. Exploratory factor analysis was used more than confirmatory factor analysis. Some studies failed to choose the proper IRT model, report and interpret item parameters, check IRT assumptions, and report and interpret information functions. We recommend some practical considerations to researchers in terms of IRT assumptions.","PeriodicalId":411995,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126291233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
