At a container terminal, containers are transferred between vessels and container yard blocks by different types of transporters. Improving transporter utilization can lead to improving terminal throughput and operational efficiency. This is why dual-cycle transfer mode is applied. In dual-cycle transfer mode, transporters operate in a pool serving several cranes in alternative modes of loading or discharging. Although empty travel distance can be reduced, it is difficult to apply dual-cycle transfer mode at manned container terminals. Grouping of transporters can combine ease of use and dual-cycle transfer mode, where transporters in the same group operate in a pool. In this paper, a Multi-Layer Genetic Algorithm (MLGA) is developed to first construct groups of transporters, and then schedule transporters in the same pool in a dual cycle mode of transfer. The decision aims to decrease the makespan of discharging and loading of containers.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128960628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This recent approach, despite of its analysis which based on the basic and classical methods such as barrier block diagrams, fault trees (FT) and influence diagrams. It is considered very suitable and practical in terms of decisionmaking as regards to risk analysis. In fact, Barrier block diagrams are applied to illustrate the accident scenarios including the functioning of safety barriers. Fault trees are used to analyze the performance of safety barriers. While the influence diagrams are used in order to analyze the effects of risk influencing factors (RIFs) on the initiating event (IE) and basic events relating to safety barriers. This study aims at showing: (1) the applicability and feasibility of BORA as approach in oil and gas process in Algerian industry, and(2) the advantages and limitations of its implementation concerning the lack of information and the use expert judgment for quantifying the risk influencing factors of each initiating and basic events. At last, some perspectives about these limitations were presented in order to improve this approach. For that, BORA is applied on an operational process, a combustible gas balloon (G01-VN-45-01) within the unit of gas treatment (UTGA), Sonatrach, Algeria).","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129002860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The “perception” element in mental model learning is addressed. Thus, a 3-step Mental Model Moderation, Modification& Managing (5M) framework is conceptualized, developed and applied in a supply chain context. The 5M framework relies on System Dynamics modeling, experiments and the Brunswikian Lens model as its instruments for analysis. The framework was validated by confirming that mental model misperception does exist and that information presentation methods are decisive for performance. The 5M framework can prove useful in training decision makers to opt for the optimal scenario given a set of cues in a complex environment.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129532762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such an environment, it is very important to deal with accompanying process details within virtual factory environment. This research articulates fundamental concepts of the virtual business network in the form of plug-and-play virtual factory, where both intra and inter-organizational processes are defined for the purpose to execute virtual collaboration. Different phases of virtual factory and its associated process steps are defined with necessary annotations. All such business processes as required to execute the virtual factory are exclusively successfully. Specific example of the virtual factory's monitoring process is illustrated and highlighted with the help of user interface portal known as `Dashboard'. The functionality and importance of this dashboard user interface layer is presented with its inherent features and implementation perspectives. This paper is concluded with future research directions.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129843712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measured wind speed data collected between 2008 and 2009 at 40 m is utilized to analyze the wind energy potential and wind characteristics at 40 and 70m. According to the obtained results the annual mean wind speed at the heights of 40 and 70 were 7.74m/s and 8.73 m/s, respectively. Also, the annual mean power density vary from 324.70 to 1267.06 W/m2 and from 450.28 to 1661.62 W/m2, respectively. The results demonstrated that Jarandagh enjoys excellent potential for wind energy exploitation in 8 months of the year. The electricity production and economic evaluation of four large-scale wind turbine models for installation at 70m height were assessed. The energy cost estimation results showed that investing on wind farm construction using all nominated turbines is very profitable and among all turbines, Suzlon S66/1.25MW model with energy cost of 0.0357 $/kWh is the best economic option.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130554885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, this research represents a proactive study via introducing new modeling tool; in order to diagnose the financial distress and assess its probability of occurrence. The Neuro-Logit is a new approach for diagnosis, prediction and forecasting corporate financial distress. This tool acts as Logit (Logistic Regression Analysis), but the equations are built based on the basic algorithm of ANN (Artificial Neural Network). ANN and Logit are widely used as modeling tools in many business applications; Neuro-Logit model reduces most of ANN and Logit limitations. The sample in this research has been drawn from the available financial statements (Financial Ratio-Based Model) that are belonged to most active non-financial firms in Egyptian stock markets. The observations are quarterly basis observations, covering six-year time period (2004-2009). The overall results show that Neuro-Logit model has superior outcome comparing to legacy Logit model, where the overall classification accuracy rate almost 86% with Type I Error 10.13%, 85.33% harmonic mean between Recall and Precision values and also good Kappa coefficient (0.7169) and Matthew Correlation Coefficient (0.7217). The paper revolves the diagnosing the financial health of the firms, and is an extension for the latest Egyptian model in 2007 which concerns with six-year span 2000-2005. The time span of the paper for model building is three-year (2005-2007) which is covering prior-recession time. The paper can be considered as second trial of supervised financial distress prediction model and the fourth Egyptian model with superior outcome supporting to be recommended in corporate financial failure assessment and diagnosis. Also the research is presenting empirically an innovative modeling approach, where the ANN is used as statistical tool.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129183917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such decisions have a great importance for companies because they are costly and difficult to reverse, and entail a long term commitment. Many quantitative and qualitative factors affect the selection of the warehouse location as a long term decision. A new balancing and ranking method combined with an interval data approach has been presented in this paper for solving a warehouse location selection problem. This method involves a three-step procedure to derive an overall complete final order of the warehouses which are already selected for the decision making. The procedure involves the definition of an outranking matrix based on the criteria values for all the available warehouse locations while taking into account the frequency of superiority of one location over others. The ordering of the warehouse locations has been performed based on the information of an advantages-disadvantages table, the distance travelled after final balancing, and the provisional order of locations. This is referred to as the triangularisation. It should be noted that unlike other MCDM models, the proposed method does not require weights for the decision making criteria. In addition, the proposed approach is much more flexible than the conventional methods in some other aspects. To demonstrate the procedural implementation of the proposed method and illustrate its effectiveness, it was applied to a case study and the results are evaluated and verified.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130629567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Italy this sector is highly fragmented and consists mostly of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). During a traditional construction project many different disciplines interact causing high coordination efforts. The main problem is a weak planning of on-site construction processes. Especially shared resources (like tower cranes) are often the bottleneck processes on-site. The paper presents a methodology for demand predictability which is based on the Rolling-Forecast approach and consists of three modules: “Planning”, “Actualization” and “Progress”. Within the module “Planning”, tasks are assigned following budget specifications. By the module “Actualization” the deviation from budget is measured. By the module “Progress” the construction progress is measured and a reliable budget monitoring is performed. For aligning the engineering, prefabrication and installation of Engineer-to-Order (ETO) components a Constant Work in Process (CONWIP) control loop is described. For increasing the productivity on-site a continuous improvement process which is based on the plan-do-check-action (PDCA) cycle is presented. A practical implementation of the methodology for demand predictability within the expansion project of the central hospital of Bolzano in North Italy is included. Scientific findings up to now and the expected outcomes are presented.","PeriodicalId":410110,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125709566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
