While private universities need to generate revenue for profits and survival, they should, at the same time, retain sound education philosophies, an extremely difficult task. Studies are yet to be conducted to understand how leaders of private universities handle this challenge, and this issue motivates the present research. Using Bangladesh as a case study, this qualitative study discovers that the “visionary” leadership approach is mainly used for business management models that govern private sector universities. This does not enable an established education leadership model to function well, if at all. This poses a serious challenge to educational philosophy. Innovation of a specialized private sector university leadership model is therefore required.","PeriodicalId":409871,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Educational Reform","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127659065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study revealed that unsafe sexual practice was found to a large extent. However, substance usage and suicide attempts were found to be lower among regular college trainees. Risky behaviors such as unsafe sexual practices, suicide attempts, and sleep deprivation are more dominantly seen in females while substance usage was more dominantly seen in males. We provide a critical discussion about the Turkish education system and continue with a critical analysis of the three interrelated dimensions of QoE from a social justice and capabilities perspective; that is, inclusive education, relevance, and democracy. Finally, we make recommendations to improve QoE in Turkey by strengthening social justice and developing appropriate capabilities in education.","PeriodicalId":409871,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Educational Reform","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127589695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the study investigated the effect of Sukuma traditional ceremonies (Mbina) on children access to formal education. The study adopted an interpretivism paradigm as its philosophical stance as well as the ethnographic research design that formed the framework within which the study was conducted. The study involved a sample of 28 participants constituting District Education Officer, parents, heads teachers, and primary school pupils. Data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, participant observation, and documentary review. The main findings revealed that the involvement of children in Sukuma traditional ceremonies (Mbina) have impact on children's access to formal education. On the basis of the findings, the study recommends that the involvement of children in Sukuma traditional ceremonies and other cultural practices with negative impacts to children's education should be abolished or should not interfere with children's access to education. Moreover, efforts should be done by the government through public campaigns to encourage parents to stop cultural practices which interfere with children's access to formal education by doing the following: First, laws protecting children should be enforced to ensure that all children of school age are enrolled and complete education cycle. Secondly, school timetable should include sports and games that can give children a chance to participate and show their talents while they are at school. Finally, the study recommends that campaigns against early marriages and early pregnancy should be emphasized in order to fight against school dropout, absenteeism, and poor performance.","PeriodicalId":409871,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Educational Reform","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127682958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It examines the practices of choosing a public school that shapes a middle-class mother, rather than the school choices of middle-class parents as an educational practice that shapes a middle-class child. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 12 women from Chinese–Japanese interethnic middle-class families in urban Japan, this study also provides some preliminary insights into the interrelationships between class, gender, and ethnicity in the process of choosing a public school within a family.","PeriodicalId":409871,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Educational Reform","volume":"199 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114018039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
