Our survey of plant-parasitic nematodes on medicinal plants in Melinh Station for Biodiversity, a place for conservation of precious plants and animals in Vietnam, identified ten species that belong to nine genera, five families, and two orders of plant-parasitic nematodes parasitizing six medicinal plants. Excoecaria cochinchinensis was parasitized by the highest number of nematode genera (5 genera, including Xiphinema, Discocriconemella, Meloidogyne, Helicotylenchus, and Hemicriconemoides), while Hymenocallis littoralis was associated with the highest number of plant-parasitic nematodes (2060 nematodes/250g soil). The results also showed that Discocriconemella limitanea was found to be a dominant species with the highest number of individuals on 6 medicinal plants, and the genus Helicotylenchus had the highest frequency of appearance (5/6 plants or 83.3%). These nematodes caused symptoms such as yellowing leaves, root galls, and root lesions, which directly affect the quality and yield of medicinal plants. Based on the results, this study showed that plant-parasitic nematodes are a potential threat to the cultivation of medicinal plants in Melinh Station for Biodiversity, and thus, control measures should be applied to ensure sustainable cultivation of medicinal plants in this place.","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126465969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of extracts from several herbal plants, such as Gymnema sylvestre, Stevia rebaudiana, Cinnamomum cassia, Zea may, Ocimum basilicumon blood glucose level in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic miceand to offer scientific proofs for the identified antihyperglycemic effect by investigating on mechanismsof the most effective extract. The results proved that diabetic mice treated with 70% ethanol extracts of Gymnema sylvestre leaves and Stevia rebaudiana leaves showed significant reduction of the blood glucose levels at a dose of 500 mg/kg body weight when compared to control (p<0,05). Antihyperglycemic activity of Gymnema sylvestre (57,68%) and Stevia rebaudiana extracts (54,93%) were significantly higher than other extracts. The inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase activity of Gymnema sylvestreand, Stevia rebaudiana extracts were carried out in vitro. The result demonstrated that these Gymnema sylvestre and Stevia rebaudiana extracts exerted significant inhibition and specific on intestinal α-amylase and α-glucosidases activities. Using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay showed that Gymnema sylvestre and Stevia rebaudiana extracts exhibited relatively low antioxidant activity with the concentration of a sample required for 50% scavenging of the DPPH free radical of 115,88 ± 1,16 µg/ml and 160,27 ± 2,01 µg/mlcompared to vitamin C (49,16 ± 1,26 µg/ml). ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121909393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metagenomic technique has been applying in Vietnam recently for effective mining of uncultured gene resources, especially in endemic mini-ecologies such as hot springs where the cell densities are low. DNA metagenome of Binh Chau hot spring was isolated and sequenced by Illumia HiseqTM. Based on analyses of databases of cellulase-encoded genes, denovogenes 18736 gene sequence for thermal endoglucanase was selected for expression in E. coli. In this paper, some factors for expression of endoglucanase have been investigated. The results show that appropriate gene expression conditions are:  Expression performed in E. coli C43 (DE3) on TB medium at 30oC with 0.25 mM of IPTG as inducer, the culture volume of 20% compared with the bottle volume and the expression time is 42–48 hours. In this condition, the biomass production and soluble enzyme activity can reached up to 5.54–5.58 g /L and  1.92–1.98 U/mL, respectively. Our results show the prospect of exploiting microbial genes without culture.","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114227679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GolS gene has been isolated on a variety of plants in order to create material resources for generating transgenic plants resistant to adverse environmental factors. In our previous research, we have isolated a GolS gene from drought stress cDNA library of Oryza sativa L. Moctuyen (named OsGolS). In this study, the expression vector pCAM-Rd/OsGolS carrying the isolated OsGolS gene under the control of stress-inducible Rd29A promoter was constructed and introduced into Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404, which was used for maize transformation.  PCR and Real-time PCR assay indicated that transgene was integrated in the genome of the regenerated Zea mays plants. Reverse transcription-PCR showed that the OsGolS was transcribed into mRNA in Zea mays and was highly expressed. These results provide a basis for the study of the function of OsGolS in drought responses and for the development of drought stress tolerant crops. ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131249456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In poultry farming, nCu is well-known as a feed additive to stimulate the development, a good antimicrobial agent and a suppressor of diarrhea. The aim of this study is to perform the analysis of biosafety of nCu. In this study, chickens were treated with drinking water containing 2 mg/L or 1000 mg/L nCu. After 5 weeks of treatment, the survival rate, dry body weight, Cu content in serum and liver tissues of chickens were examined. Liver and kidney functions were also determined by measuring serum levels of ALT, AST, and creatinine. As a result, chickens treated with drinking containing 2 mg/L nCu had no changes in liver and kidney functions as well as their body weights. However, treatment of chickens with 1000 mg/L nCu caused accumulationof Cu in the serum and liver and increase of the serum levels of ALT and AST compared with control group. Apparently they sick and did not develop properly. In conclusion, nCu concentration at 2 mg/L may be recommended for the agricultural, feed and medicine formulations to meet biological safety.ALT, AST, creatinine, nCu, chicken.","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128395343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To assess the safety of such methods on plants, the effectiveness and safety of the treatment of soybean Glycine max L. DT12 seeds with cobalt nanoparticles (nCo) before sowing were investigated. Seeds of soybean cultivar DT12 were treated with nCo at two different concentrations (0.165 and 1.65 mg/kg seed) before sowing. Germination rate, growth speed, soybean yield and bean nutrient components were examined throughout a season. Results implied that at a concentration of 0.165 mg/kg, nCo significantly increased germination rates, plant heights, total pods per plant, number of pods having 3 seeds, and crop productivity compared to both the control and seeds treated with a highter concentration of 16.5 mg per kg of seed. However, no significant differences were found between treatments in terms of growth level and seed nutrient contents, including moisture, ash content, mineral (K, Mg and Fe) and crude protein components. In seeds treated with higher concentration, the Ca content was dramatically lower than that of the control and seeds treated with a low concentration, but bean quality was not affected. As a S. zeamais female can keep laying eggs for a long time throughout its life after chewing its way into the grains, most development stages of the maize weevil, such as eggs, larvae and pupae, can always be found in stored maize grains. Our experiment with S.  zeamais on long grain rice showed that 10 days after eclosion and mating, maize weevil females started laying eggs for a period of 145 days. On average, a S.  zeamais female laid 38.67 eggs, of which, up to 62.81% were laid in the first 7–8 weeks (with the remaining 37.19% in the latter half of the 145 day period), and 55.07%  were laid within day 55–95. The egg laying pattern of S. zeamais was modeled using cubic polynomials, which described the maximum percentages of eggs laid at day 15, 35, 75, 95 and 105.   ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128922886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At these stages, fish are still not fully developed, and are thus easily affected by environmental factors. Vietnam has a rich fish diversity, with ca. 3000 species, and fishery resources play significantly roles not only in the daily lives of local residents but also in national economic development. Ichthyological studies in Vietnam have focused mainly on matured fish while early life history has so far been less researched.
