In lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) populations the risk of suicidal thoughts and actions is significantly higher. The effect of natal sex vs. gender identity has not been studied enough as yet. In this study the PubMed-database was searched systematically for articles on the association between gender/sex differences and suicidality. Included were: meta-analyses, systematic and narrative reviews, first-hand observational studies and qualitative studies, published prior to 1 January 2021. Twenty-nine publications were found relevant, the majority on self-harm and suicide attempts and only few on death by suicide. Sexual (29.68%-lifetime) and gender (46.65%) minorities seem more likely to die by suicide than heterosexual/cisgender (14.57%) people. At greatest risk are transgender (56.65%) and bisexual (41.47%) individuals. Most studies reported natal males to be more affected than natal females. The ``gender paradox in suicide'' does not exist among sex and gender minorities (SGMs), but differences in suicidal behavior exist between the various SGM groups. More research on suicidal behavior among these groups, especially longitudinal research, is necessary.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131931420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While implemented to protect both providers and patients, this protocol limited fathers' ability to attend prenatal care appointments. At this time, limited research has been published on the effects of COVID-19 healthcare protocols on fathers' experiences and perceptions of prenatal care and parenting. This study aimed to understand how COVID-19 affected expectant fathers and fathers with newborns perceptions and experiences during pregnancy, prenatal care, and early parenting.Materials and methods: Structured interviews were completed with fathers expecting a child and fathers with children born after March 2020. Interviews were completed by video conference and recorded. Audio from each interview was transcribed. Content and thematic analysis was performed.Results: In total, 34 fathers were interviewed. Three broad themes were identified from the data including changing prenatal care policies that did not consider fathers, unique stressors associated with COVID-19, and isolation's negative impact on connecting to the pregnancy and support. Fathers reported limited engagement with the prenatal care system due to pandemic-related organizational and systematic changes in healthcare delivery. Results also suggest that fathers experienced elevated feelings of both stress and isolation from the pregnancy and prenatal care.Conclusions: Ultimately, this study highlights the need for providers and organizations to develop strategies for transforming prenatal healthcare delivery into inclusive, family centered care during emergency situations, as well as use this opportunity to build family centered care into normal prenatal care operations.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123067214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Obesity potentially affects the foot structure and the strength of the muscles responsible for moving the ankle. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between obesity, foot structure and the strength of the muscles which move the ankle in adult men.Material and methods: 66 adult men were divided into a non-obese group (n = 19), an overweight group (n = 35) and an obese group (n = 12), based on each participant's body mass index (BMI). Foot structure was measured using a three-dimensional foot scanner and the strength of the muscles that move the ankle was assessed with a dynamometer.Results: The study demonstrated the height, width and girth indicators of the foot to be greater among those in the overweight and obese groups than participants in the non-obese group (p < 0.05) and positive relationships were discovered between BMI and instep height, forefoot and rearfoot width and forefoot and instep girth (r = 0.223–0.423, p < 0.05). The overweight and obese men exhibited lower strength in the muscles that move the ankle (peak torque per body weight) than the non-obese men (p < 0.05) and correlation analysis proved BMI to be positively associated with dorsiflexion peak torque at 30 and 120 ◦/s angular velocity (r = 0.385 and 0.310, p < 0.05) and negatively associated with plantarflexion, dorsiflexion, eversion and inversion peak torque per body weight at 30 ◦/s and 120 ◦/s angular velocity (r = –0.244–0.462, p < 0.05).Conclusion: The findings of the study show that the height, width, and girth of the foot are greater and the strength of the muscles responsible for moving the ankle is lower in overweight and obese men.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117006153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the study developed a prediction model using physical factors. For this analysis, the data of 163 players in the last 20 years (1999–2018) available on the Athletic Competition Performance Assessment Computer System were used. A top ranker was defined as an athlete who had won a medal in a world championship or the Olympic Games.Methods: The logit model was used as the model and the estimations were performed using maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) with E-views9.5 (Lightstone Corp., Tokyo, Japan). The estimation results demonstrated that the probability of becoming a top ranker increased with the following: increase in the length of the career compared to age, increase in the distance of standing long jumps, decrease in response time to light, and increase in bench press weight.Results: The analysis of the model's estimation results showed that superior results were produced when the standing long jumps, response time to light, and bench press weight were normalized using the weight class based on McFadden R2, Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), and Schwarz information criterion (SBIC) as compared to when they were normalized using the height and body weight. Conclusion: The estimation model established in this study for the significant physical strength factors shown in the South Korean top rankers is expected to be used as important data for predicting and fostering world-class South Korean Greco-Roman wrestlers.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117270822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was done by comparing data from the Mures County Clinical Hospital, Clinic of Urology one year before (non-pandemic, NP) and during (pandemic, P) the global COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: A retrospective study was performed based on the Mures County Clinical Hospital database. The inclusion criteria were clinical suspicion (digital rectal examination) and elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level (threshold 3.2 ng/mL). Statistical analysis was performed with STATA 11 Program. Mann-Whitney, Student and chi-square tests were used to compare median PSA, prostate volume, number of TRUSbx performed, number of core biopsies, Gleason Score values, and perineural invasion between the NP and P groups.Results: A total of 440 patients were studied, comprising 271 in the NP group and 169 in the P group. The average number of TRUSbx procedures was 22.58 per month in 2019 (NP group) and 14.08 per month in 2020 (P group), representing a decrease of 37.65%. Analysis of data for the P and NP groups showed a median PSA of 10.48 vs 10.58, mean prostatic volume of 43.69 vs 43.26, number of core biopsies 11.39 vs 11.70, and Gleason score of 7.31 vs 7.15, respectively. Mann-Whitney U test revealed no statistically significant differences between the two groups, with only the Gleason Score showing a trend for significance (p = 0.065).Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a major decrease in the number of surgeries performed, with TRUSbx declining by almost 40%. No differences between P and NP periods were observed for median PSA, prostate volume, number of core biopsies, and perineural invasion. The Gleason Score showed a slightly higher incidence of advanced prostate cancer in the P group, but this did not reach statistical significance.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123117785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Caudate lobectomy is the most effective surgical treatment for benign tumors arisen in segment I. The occurrence of giant LH within the same liver segments in different members of the same family has never been described in literature. Herein we report the first two consecutive laparoscopic caudate lobectomy for familiar giant LH in a father and his daughter.Methods: The father showed a lesion in the caudate lobe (CL) suggestive of LH steadily grown, asymptomatic for 24 years until it has caused abdominal discomfort and pain (Dmax 89 mm). The daughter showed multiple hepatic hemangiomas with the biggest one located in the CL compressing the inferior vena cava (Dmax 88 mm).Results: Despite the size of the masses, we opted for a pure laparoscopic approach and a caudate lobectomy was performed in both cases. Operation time was 140 and 180 min. Patients had an uneventful recovery and a good outcome after the scheduled follow up exams 6 months after the procedure.Conclusions: A chance of familiarity transmission for hemangiomas exists and therefore should be further investigated. Laparoscopic isolated caudate lobectomy for symptomatic GLH is feasible and safely performed on selected patients by experienced hepatobiliary surgeons. Prospective randomized studies on larger populations are needed to assess if this minimally invasive approach can be proposed as a standard of care for S-I LH.","PeriodicalId":409580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Men’s Health","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124200905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
