The stateof-art deep learning models are not sufficiently successful due to the availability of limited training samples. In this paper, a novel framework is proposed which transfers fundamental visual features learnt from a generic image dataset to supplement a supervised face recognition model. The proposed algorithm combines off-the-shelf supervised classifier and a generic, task independent network which encodes information related to basic visual cues such as color, shape, and texture. Experiments are performed on IIITD plastic surgery face dataset and Disguised Faces in the Wild (DFW) dataset. Results showcase that the proposed algorithm achieves state of the art results on both the datasets. Specifically on the DFW database, the proposed algorithm yields over 87% verification accuracy at 1% false accept rate which is 53.8% better than baseline results com- puted using VGG Face.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124616494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The milk produced by these dairy cows cannot be allowed to mix with the milk from healthy cows or it risks contaminating the entire bulk tank or milk truck. Ear tags, ankle bands, RFID tags and even iris patterns are some of the identification methods currently used in the dairy farms. In this work we propose the use of NIR images of cow’s mammary glands as a novel biometric identification modality. Two datasets, containing 302 samples from 151 cows has been collected and various machine learning techniques applied to demonstrate the viability of the proposed biometric modality. The results suggest promising identification accuracy for samples collected over consecutive days.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116634736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous works have studied the vulnerability of CNN-FR systems to 2D PAs such as print-attacks, or digital- video replay attacks, and to rigid 3D masks. This is the first study to consider PAs performed using custom-made flexible silicone masks. Before embarking on research on detecting a new variety of PA, it is important to estimate the seriousness of the threat posed by the type of PA. In this work we demonstrate that PAs using custom silicone masks do pose a serious threat to state-of-the-art FR systems. Using a new dataset based on six custom silicone masks, we show that the vulnerability of each FR system in this study is at least 10 times higher than its false match rate. We also propose a simple but effective presentation attack detection method, based on a low-cost thermal camera.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128868727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to obtain good quality of gait features, it is essential to get a well aligned silhouette sequence, which is, however, not necessarily easy with imperfect silhouettes and also with scale and position changes due to perspective projection. We therefore propose a gait recognition-oriented approach to pedestrian trajectory extraction, i. e., bounding box sequence for each pedestrian. More specifically, we firstly developed an inter-active tool to get camera calibration parameters for a target scene geometry without on-site workload. We then introduce a geometric constraint to better keep the consistency of bounding boxes among frames w.r.t. the pedestrian ’s height and foot bottom points on the ground plane. Sub-sequently, we apply analytical dynamic programing (DP) repeatedly to find multiple pedestrian ’s trajectories on the ground plane, where data and transition scores are computed based on semantic segmentation results and color histogram similarity. Moreover, since DP just considers the smoothness between adjacent frames, we approximate the trajectory by a piece-wise linear trajectory to make it more globally smooth. Experimental results show that the proposed method enables us to make better aligned gait features and consequently improves gait recognition accuracy.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116475999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since standoff iris recognition systems are much less constrained than traditional systems, the iris images captured are likely to be non-ideal, off-angle, and dilated. In this paper, we present a deep learning algorithm to improve performance of off-angle iris recognition in traditional and untraditional iris recognition frameworks. As a main contribution, this approach will allow us to study the effect of the gaze angle in ocular/periocular biometrics and fuse the information in different off-angle iris images. Using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), we first investigate traditional iris recognition framework with segmentation, normalization, and CNN based encoding and matching. In nontraditional framework, we use the iris images without segmentation and normalization to investigate the effect of periocular regions. We train and test our deep learning based approach with frontal and off-angle iris images in different sizes and types such as original, cropped, segmented, and masked images. Based on results from our real off-angle iris image dataset with 52 subjects, the proposed method improved the recognition performance compared with traditional off-angle iris recognition approaches.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"79 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120898270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More specifically, the variance of PRNU-based features across image cells is estimated to distinguish bona fide from morphed and potentially post-processed morphed face images. The proposed morph detector is shown to be robust against post-processing techniques, which are likely to be applied to conceal the morphing process, e.g. histogram equalisation or image sharpening. Tested on a database of 961 bona fide and 2,414 automatically morphed face images, a detection equal error rate (D-EER) of 10.5% is obtained over all investigated attacks, including unaltered morphed images and various post-processing techniques.","PeriodicalId":409205,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 9th International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115548589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing approaches either attempt to synthesize visible faces from thermal faces or extract robust features from these modalities for cross-modal matching. In this paper, we take a different approach in which we make use of the attributes extracted from the visible image to synthesize the attribute-preserved visible image from the input thermal image for cross-modal matching. A pre-trained VGG-Face network is used to extract the attributes from the visible image. Then, a novel Attribute Preserved Generative Adversarial Network (AP-GAN) is proposed to synthesize the visible image from the thermal image guided by the extracted attributes. Finally, a deep network is used to extract features from the synthesized image and the input visible image for verification. Recent studies show that the pulse signal provides information on the liveness of a subject; hence it can be used to identify whether a recorded video sequence originates from a genuine user or is an attack. Inspired by work made for speaker presentation attack detection, we propose to use long-term spectral statistical features of the pulse signal to discriminate real accesses from attack attempts. Experiments are performed on different, publicly available databases and following associated protocols.
