Their backgrounds and positions from the perspective of al-jarh and al-taʿdil were scrutinised. However, there were some errors in determining the narrator, especially when the name found on the chains of transmission is not the original name. This created difficulties for hadith researchers when directly referring to the book of rijal as the narrator’s biography traditionally used the narrator’s real name. Even the entry of a particular narrator’s name sometimes could not be found. Hence, this article aims to examine the error in the names of eight individuals who narrated the hadith in the Six Books. In this regard, the qualitative research was carried out using the content analysis tool on the texts of hadiths and works of rijal. The results showed that this error stemmed from excerpts from other books, identical names of narrators, differences between manuscripts, attributions to ancestral names, inverted paternal and grandfather names, and errors in the narrators’ names. {"title":"Revisiting Wansbrough’s Perspective on the Qurʾān’s Synoptic Problem","authors":"T. Moqbel","doi":"10.1163/22321969-12340118","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1163/22321969-12340118","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000The occurrence of variant versions of the same story is not uncommon in the Qurʾān. In response to this phenomenon, different approaches have been developed; one of which was Wansbrough’s variant traditions hypothesis. The hypothesis, which emerged mainly from an analysis of three accounts of the prophet Shuʿayb’s story in the Qurʾān, posits that the different tellings of the same story existed as independent pericopes that later found their way into the text of the Qurʾān, a claim that has many implications on the authorship and composition of the Qurʾān. Consequently, the reactions to this hypothesis were varied. In this paper, I present one of the critiques to the hypothesis, that of Stewart. Then, I employ elements of textual criticism to provide further ways for viewing the variant traditions. I do this by drawing attention to empirical evidence from the Near East, pre-Islamic poetry, orality theory, and to some of the internal characteristics of the Qurʾān. The topic of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj is one of the popular talks in YouTube particularly among Malaysian Muslims. The influenced presenters of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj attract a significant number of viewers as well as their reflections. However, it is questionable in terms of reliable and quality of ḥadīth whenever they apply mix references between accepted and rejected ḥadīth in their talk on al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj. Consequently, the netizen reflects on their talks with the mode of positive, negative and neutral attitude through the YouTube comments. Therefore, this study focuses on the trend of selected presenters in referring the ḥadīth of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj in the YouTube. Two Malaysian YouTube influenced presenters are selected as a case study. In order to evaluate the impact of both influenced presenters, this study examines netizen’s reflections on their talk of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj in the YouTube comments. This study applied the method of content analysis in evaluating the trend of both presenters in referring the ḥadīth of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj in the YouTube. In analysing netizens’ reflections, the classification attitude that established by Madden, Ruthven, and McMenemy (2013) is undertook as a guide to analyse YouTube video comments. The result of analysis revealed that the trend of mix references between accepted and rejected ḥadīth have been applied by both selected presenters with a significant number of those ḥadīth . Subsequently, the majority of netizen reflects positively on this trend of talk of al-Isrāʾ wa al-Miʿrāj in which the mix references between accepted and rejected ḥadīth have been applied by both presenters. The small portion of netizen reflects negatively and neutral attitude from the delivered talk. Al-Suyutiy concludes from various hadiths that there are 11 types of continuous charity. However, the hadiths provide some specific examples and no scholars have inferred them to a general framework or concept. This study collects data by using document observation through the internet and al-Maktabah al-Shamilah software. All eleven infaq al-jariyah (continuous charity) will be analyzed thematically by the help of hadith scholars’ commentaries. Based on the exposition of the hadith scholars, the general themes of continuous charity mentioned in the hadith are concluded. The formative period of historical writings in the early Islamic era has been one of the interesting topics especially the development of Sirah literature. This paper aims to explore the nature of early Islamic historical writings, analyze the emergence of its literature, and examine the basic pattern of Sirah Nabawiyyah. The present study is qualitative in nature and is one in which the researcher will employ both descriptive and source-critical approaches. The study in its findings confirm that the earliest proponents of the Prophet were principally attempting biography, and were responsible, above all, for the transmission of tradition. They apparently took any narration or anecdote about the Prophet, even, on occasions, contradictory accounts. The contribution of academics to the study of hadith is also very necessary so that Muslims can get to know al-Sunnah more closely. The selected academics are from the Islamic Studies Academy of the University of Malaya, the National University of Malaysia, the Islamic Science University of Malaysia and the International Islamic University, all of which are in various fields of Islamic Studies. The method used in this study is a questionnaire which is cluster sampling. The author distributed the questionnaire to academics at the university. Based on the descriptive analysis of this questionnaire, it can be concluded that academics think that the exposure of hadith studies in Malaysia is still decreasing, and it needs to be created or added to either in educational institutions or in mosques whether in cities or in villages. village Including also making improvements to the study according to the discipline of hadith science. The teaching force of hadith studies also does not explore other hadith books such as Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim and others. They only focus their teaching on specific books of hadith such as Riyad al-Salihin, the forty hadith of Imam al-Nawawi and the like. Therefore, it needs to be diversified because Muslims have started to be interested in the study of hadith and matters related to bidaah, although the study of hadith is still considered to be reduced or not in accordance with the discipline of hadith science. However, he is not spared from criticism. In his work entitled Fiqh al-Sunnah, he is said to have no method in applying hadith to substantiate rules that it entails several contradictions against the aspects affecting the disciplines of hadith. This study therefore intends to investigate the method of hadith writing by Sayyid Sabiq in Fiqh al-Sunnah. To achieve the purpose, qualitative research is conducted through the content analysis method in examining textual contents in Fiqh al-Sunnah. The study finds that Sayyid Sabiq does have his own method in the writing of hadith. Among the approaches he employs is shortening the chain of transmitters, clarifying the status of some hadith and providing comments on the hadith transmitters. Further, this study discovers that the hadiths of which status he does not clarify come under criticism by the scholars who evaluate the same as weak hadith. The dissemination of fabricated hadith has been normalised not only among the public but also the Islamic and religious scholars. This is not a new phenomenon but has been evolved since the hadith were not only being used via speech but also has been developed through writing such as books and so on. The spread of hadith via writing does not limit to only written materials from the current Islamic and religious scholars but can also be found from the Siamese scholars as well. This article is to find out the authentication of hadith ‘Kitab al-Jinayah and al-Hudud’ from the book of ‘Bulughul Maram min Adillat al-Ahkam’ karya al-Hafiz ibn Hajar (m.852H). Even though al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar has mentioned the sources of the hadith, yet there were still some hadith left unmentioned. He has also divided the hadith into thematic point of view. Unfortunately, there were few hadith that has not been categorised under their suitable themes. All of the hadith will be analysed from the aspect of authentication and tanasub and also the suitability in terms of nikah. Therefore, to identify the status of the hadith and the authentication of the hadith from the real sources, a specific method will be used which is takhrij of hadith based on the theme of the hadith. A descriptive method will be used to analyse the hadith in the tanasub point of view and the suitability of the hadith towards certain themes. Thus, the result of the research shown that 87% of the hadith found in Kitab al-Jinayah and Kitab al-Hudud were authenticated and were based on the authorized and muktabar book of hadith. The method used in this study is a deductive analytical study, whereby the researchers has collected evidence and information related to the topic from the books of interpretations, and the explanations of Sahih Al-Bukhari and others. The most important finding of this study are: Imam al-Bukhari was one of those who has avoided to narrate from the Israelites in the interpretation, except in the very rare; He has arranged the book of interpretation on the surahs of the Qur’an with a brief of each surah; he has taken care of the sciences of the Qur’an in his interpretation; he also has made the basis of his work in the explanation of language by investigating the meanings of words that need clarification. In comparison to the Islamic tradition, the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in kitāb al-mardhā and kitāb al-ṭibb of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī showcase the approaches and principles of modern epidemiology-based solutions. Hence, this paper attempts to analyse the disease control plan of WHO based on leading-edge epidemiology and prophetic traditions. Furthermore, it also intends to correlate pragmatic principles from the hadith and their commentaries with contemporary epidemiology. While dissecting the kitāb al-mardhā and kitāb al-ṭibb from al-Bukhārī’s (d. 870CE/256AH) magnum opus to establish the core principle, the researcher likewise interprets the pillars of the Strategic Preparation and Response Plan (SPRP) attempting to synchronise with the prophetic tradition. Long before the present solution, border control and preventive social measures were implemented; it stands to reason that modern epidemiology is in accord with the prophetic tradition.
