Through his comprehensive construction program, ‘Abd al-Malik established the architectural importance of the Sacred Rock and elevated it as one of the fundamental Islamic religious foci. The vision behind the mosque's design is filled with religious enthusiasm and serves as a powerful architectural manifestation of ‘Abd al-Malik's political manifesto rooted in religious expression. This study provides an analysis of the process of creating the general shape of the ‘Holy’ within the sacred architecture of the al-Aqsa Mosque and its reflection in the general image of Bayt al-Maqdis' skyline. The research employs an interdisciplinary approach, re-examining and re-evaluating the historical literature and connecting it to archaeological observations and architectural coordination relevant to the subject of the study. The findings of this research shed light on the design concept of the al-Aqsa Mosque and make a significant contribution to clarifying our understanding of the early Islamic architecture of the site.","PeriodicalId":40895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Al-Tamaddun","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43646354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Israel, like many others, has taken advantage of the digital world to improve its image in the Middle East. In fact, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs started a special department for digital diplomacy, which manages dozens of digital pages in multiple languages. This paper investigates the strategies that Israel has employed in its digital diplomacy in recent years to improve its image with its Arab neighbors by analyzing approximately 600 posts published on the Israeli Facebook page “Israel Speaks Arabic.” Results of the analysis reveal that the page employs many propaganda strategies to attract Arabs and earn their recognition and acceptance of Israel, such as positing digital publications in frameworks related to conflict, responsibility, and morality in a way that shows Israel as a rational, democratic, peace-loving state that cooperates with its Arab neighbors. “Israel Speaks Arabic” also employs persuasive means that address passion and desires using religion and the humanization of the occupation and its army. Other strategies include the manipulation of terminology, repetition, the amplification of events, and the employment of eminent Arabic voices against the Palestinians that serve Israel’s narrative at the expense of the Palestinian one. The article rests on framing theory.","PeriodicalId":40895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Al-Tamaddun","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43898266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A considerable number of students continue to struggle with reading, an area that is integral to their academic progress and language acquisition. Addressing these challenges necessitates effective teaching tactics to enhance reading comprehension skills, the exploration of which formed the core of this research. The study utilized a pre-experimental research design, focusing on a single group pre-test and post-test methodology. The sample consisted of 30 students who received targeted instruction on skimming and scanning strategies over a determined period. Skimming involves rapidly reviewing a text to get a general idea, while scanning is a technique used for quickly locating specific information within a text. Both strategies are believed to be pivotal in assisting learners to become more efficient and effective readers. Data collected from the pre and post-tests was analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test. The alternative hypothesis, suggesting that skimming and scanning techniques have no significant effect on reading comprehension, is rejected if the Sig (2-tailed) value is more than 0.05. Conversely, if the Sig (2-tailed) is less than 0.05, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, indicating a significant effect of skimming and scanning techniques on students' reading comprehension. The study's findings revealed that the students who received training in skimming and scanning demonstrated significant improvement in their reading comprehension, substantiating the beneficial impact of these techniques. This improvement is further corroborated by the Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is less than the critical threshold of 0.05, leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. The statistically significant results from the Paired Sample T-Test provided robust evidence supporting the efficacy of skimming and scanning techniques in enhancing students' reading comprehension skills. This demonstrates the significance of these strategies in addressing reading comprehension challenges among students and informs the pedagogical approaches for teaching reading in EFL contexts. It underscores the need for their integration in curriculum planning and instruction, thereby contributing substantially to the academic discourse on reading comprehension strategies.","PeriodicalId":40895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Al-Tamaddun","volume":"117 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73717765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study will employ a qualitative approach using two types of interviews: individual (a face-to-face meeting with one community member) and small group (videoconferencing with two or three members as the representation of the student’s community). Six-phase guide of thematic analysis was employed in this study. The study reveals that the message content and message relationship are displayed as important elements in community interaction. In practicing intercultural communicative competence in the community, EFL students portrayed open-mindedness, self-awareness, and nonverbal communication skills as the key characteristics of effective communication. Furthermore, the emergence of misunderstanding in community interaction is undeniably linked to speaker-related, interlocutor-related, and participant-related trigger. Therefore, EFL students addressed the use of language and the practice of tolerance to incorporate intercultural aspects in community interaction.","PeriodicalId":40895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Al-Tamaddun","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77431713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
