The incredible progression in micro and nanotechnology has brought the concept of an “artificial pancreas” closer to reality. Manufacturing miniaturized, implantable insulin sensing and delivery devices are in fact feasible. The key to a successful implantable delivery system is the development of a self-regulated arrangement that mimics the performance of the real pancreas. The PID-FLC can be an effective control strategy for implantable insulin delivery system. It combines all the necessary components that react to the possible changes of glucose concentration in the blood stream. This paper is concerned with the parallel structure design of the PID-FLC which is achieved by combining the Proportional-Integral (PI-FLC) and Proportional-Derivative (PD-FLC) controllers. The PID-FLC is implemented on the nonlinear delay differential model of the glucose-insulin regulatory system, which describes how glucose and insulin interact in healthy individuals. Compared with other controlling approaches, the PID-FLC gives more than satisfactory results in maintaining near-normal glycemia and saving the amount of the daily delivered insulin.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122959623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimization of power and delay together becomes the main issue in CMOS circuits design. Based on transistor level, a new algorithm for optimizing the Power Delay Product (PDP) for digital CMOS circuits is proposed in this paper. This algorithm is composed of three models: Graph Model (GM), Mathematical Model (MM) and Heuristic Model (HM). These Models work homogeneously to enhance the circuit performance (Delay) and reduce the circuit power dissipation (leakage) by selecting the optimal width size for each transistor in the circuit. All the measurements and simulation results of the new approach have been performed under 22nm BSIM4 Foundries. The average improvement in PDP was 31% for Full Adder circuit of 24 transistors and 43% for C17 ISIAC benchmark.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130170304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I am honored to be the General Chair of the organizing team of such an important and interesting event, which is taking place in the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, during December 6-8, 2011. The theme of this conference is “Technology for Solving National Problems.” This theme is a symbolic reflection of the importance of electrical engineering and computing technologies in solving many problems that face Jordan and other countries. This international conference provides a unique forum to discuss practical approaches and state of the art findings in using these technologies to solve national problems related to energy, communications, management, health, business, and other areas. This conference is the first of a series of conferences organized by the IEEE – Jordan Section. The section, which was established in Jordan in 1999, intends to hold this conference biannually. The section plans to hold the next AEECT conference in November 2013. AEECT 2011 has received papers in its nine tracks that cover the various aspects of the electrical engineering and computing technologies. Each of these papers was sent to three expert reviewers or more. Out of the 182 received papers, only 62 papers are included in the printed conference proceedings and are presented in the thirteen technical sessions of this conference. The papers that are successfully presented will also be published on IEEE Xplore Digital Library. AEECT 2011 has also received eight abstracts in its industrial tack. These abstracts were also reviewed by experts and three of these abstracts are included in the printed conference proceedings and are presented in the technical sessions. We are proud to have in this conference program six distinguished keynote speakers who deliver interesting speeches in renewable energy, electric vehicles, unmanned vehicles, communications spectrum, and the future of the internet. Moreover, the conference includes two panel discussions on renewable energy policies and regulations and the potential of electronic industry in Jordan. We would like to thank the University of Jordan, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, and the IEEE – Region 8 for organizing, sponsoring, and supporting this conference, as well as IEEE Computer Press for publishing the conference proceedings. Moreover, we would like to thank the main conference supporter the Jordanian Scientific Research Support Fund and the other supporters particularly Philadelphia University, UN Women, Petra University, Hashemite University, and Jordan Engineers Association. Last but not least, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to the members of all organizing committees for their valuable efforts in making AEECT 2011 a successful event, as well as our army of volunteers, the members of the ","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125209175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
