This saves time and money and leads to a better quality of goods. This intelligent strategy is in the subject area of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In our contribution a “Knowledge-Based System” (KBS) for image processing and pattern recognition, machine learning (ML) is used to measure the quality of the distribution of salami slices on pizza crusts. Measuring quality provides the opportunity to correct the position of the salami slices by automated systems (e.g. a robot arm) in the future rather than by employees.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"434 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123275706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system includes full development and simulation environment for defining the required ISA, creating and editing assembly programs of the defined ISA, and simulating the execution of these programs. This system also includes a soft processor described in the Verilog hardware description language (HDL). This soft processor is synthesized from a customizable general processor template to implement the defined ISA on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This system provides an innovative, generic simulator for many architectures and for experimenting with new ones. It has a unique and easy-to-use interface that focuses on functionality rather than hardware implementation. This system was validated by successfully implementing several ISAs of various ISA classes such as MIPS, x86, and PIC. This system provides a flexible tool for teaching assembly language and computer architecture. Additionally, it provides an easily customizable soft processor that allows testing programs with real I/O interfacing circuits.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115048771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Simulink-based hardware/software trade-off analysis technique","authors":"Parinaz Sayyah, S. Butt, L. Lavagno","doi":"10.1109/AEECT.2011.6132515","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AEECT.2011.6132515","url":null,"abstract":"Fast analysis of hardware/software trade-offs for cost, performance and power-constrained embedded systems is a key to reduce the time to market and at the same time improve the quality of results. However, this analysis must also be close to the final results of the detailed HW and SW implementation in order to lead to an optimal solution. This requires the use of compilation (for SW) and synthesis (for HW) techniques that ensure the existence of a solution with the estimated cost, and are not too far from what will later be achieved by manual optimization and detailed design. We start from a realistic application domain, namely sound-triggered wireless security cameras, and we show in detail how one can start from an algorithm modeled and validated using Simulink, and using commercial state-of-the-art tools explore various possible hardware and software implementations for the frequency based audio detection front end, with respect to the overall design constraints and goals. We show how rapid estimations of the various aspects of the cost function can be obtained quickly, using directly the C code generated from Simulink, with a few manual refinements in order to increase the efficiency of both software and hardware implementations and bring them closer to the final optimized implementation. We report results showing different points in the design space. The results that we obtained are close to manual hand optimized implementations for both HW and SW, showing that the approach is useful for trade-off analysis in a very short time, and that further manual optimizations can quickly lead to the best implementation.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124554018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From an economic point of view, the handcrafting without any technical assistance allows manufacturing of products in an admissible quality range; however, the quality itself is strongly influenced by the skills of the human workers. Additionally, the repeatability of the product quality or the uniformity of the manually performed working steps throughout the manufacturing process is hard to keep in a reliable range. The dependency of human workers and the quality may cause defective products or increased manufacturing costs through corrective rebuilding, especially when skilled human employees are not available due to demographical reasons. The complexity of such kind of expertise-based manufacturing requires a detailed analysis of the manufacturing process in order to detect automatable sub-processes. Regarding human factor aspects on the one hand and economic goals on the other hand, the need of innovative production systems becomes clear. A separation of human workers and the process task by transferring the human worker to an operator role and by automatizing the quality related production sub-processes seems to be useful. As an illustrative example, the process analysis of a handcrafted molding process is performed. Thereby, the cast part quality is mainly influenced by the quality of the mold, which underlies individual fabrication variations due to an expertise-based handcrafted production process in a noxious environment common in this casting technology field.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130196547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power consumption and heat dissipation have become critical issues in modern high performance computing systems due to the rising cost of electricity and the cooling infrastructure. The Multi-Processor Allocation (MPAlloc) algorithm will determine the appropriate number of Multi-Processor at runtime that can reduce power consumption, resources over-provisioning, and maintain performance simultaneously. It uses the memory BandWidth Utilization (BWU) metric to predict the MultiProcessor requirements of the application. The experimental results showed that a 14.2% of power saving could be achieved using the MPAlloc algorithm with less than 1% of performance degradation.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116372267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This progress has resulted in more and more countries consider deploying smart-grid technologies. Unfortunately, Jordan and the MENA region in general have not kept pace with these developments. There is a need in Jordan to move forward with necessary practical and policy decisions to use and deploy such energy saving technologies. Today's PV installations focus mainly on solar energy conversion, control and grid connectivity technologies. This talk will focus on recent advancement in power electronics inverters for PV energy conversion and how the new solar energy conversion technologies may incorporate smart-grid capabilities in distributed PV systems. Also, why Jordan has great potential to embrace such new technologies.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125892577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, various control schemes were adopted to achieve accurate and repeatable motion control. To maintain an accurate position of the forearm when the articulated manipulator moves from a point to point in its workspace, a robust torque control law is required. In this paper, a modified robust single parameter control law is developed to obtain an accurate 3D Cartesian coordinate motion control. The position errors and the maximum torques are related to the controller parameter such that the optimum value of this parameter can be determined. Two cases have been considered, the exact case of certainty and the case of parameter uncertainty. A Matlab program is executed to simulate the manipulator dynamics, as well as to compute and analyze the position accuracy.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132936353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate using AR models to generate doubly selective fading with correlated and uncorrelated paths. We briefly consider an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) extension. AR models are shown to closely approximate channel correlation functions for reasonable model orders. When we use the AR/ARMA-generated channel taps in the receiver to replace channel estimation, the sacrifice in receiver performance is shown to be insignificant. The AR/ARMA approaches can be used to reduce complexity at the receiver side by using low-complexity filters.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132796734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The radiating elements in this antenna are composed of rectangular ring microstrip and a folded meandered arm used for higher mode excitation, frequency selection and control. Several optimizations are performed to attain the optimum values of the antenna physical parameters. The simulation of this antenna has been carried out using CST MICROWAVE STUDIO™ 2010. The simulation results show the presence of four resonant frequencies (2.35GHz, 2.82GHz, 5.1GHz, and 5.85GHz) and having the behavior of triple band frequency antenna for Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) system applications. The antenna has a compact dimension of 1.6×28×30 mm3 and shows fairly good omnidirectional radiation patterns with reasonable gains at all operating frequencies.","PeriodicalId":408446,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Jordan Conference on Applied Electrical Engineering and Computing Technologies (AEECT)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125138837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
