The analysis draws on data from the China General Social Survey (CGSS) conducted in 2010, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2021, focusing on issues related to perceived social equity. The study reveals an upward trend in perceived social equity among Chinese residents over the past decade, with economic development serving as a significant driving force. However, examination of the cohort effect indicates two peaks (in the 1940s and mid-1980s) and a trough (in the 1950s-1970s). Furthermore, the urban-rural disparity, influenced by the household registration system, emerged in the mid-1960s and gradually widened. However, in the early 21st century, accelerated urbanization and increased efforts in rural revitalization led to a sudden narrowing of the cohort gap between urban and rural areas. The study also finds that individuals with higher education tend to have a relatively higher sense of social equity. However, since the 1980s cohort, expansion of higher education enrollment has reduced this difference.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139294522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was discovered that Mandarin speakers could not distinguish the second tone from the third tone regardless of speech rate. People could not perceive the small pitch difference between the sandhi tone and the underlying tone 2 found in the production experiment. Speech rates at which the phrases were spoken did not affect the identification of the phrases. This study aims to investigate if the speech rate and sentence length really influence the perception of sandhi. A perception test is performed and 15 Mandarin speakers participated in the perception of the material. The identification differences under distinct speech rates and sentence lengths are significant. It is found that the sandhi tone is perceptually indistinguishable from tone 2, and speech rates and sentence length impact the identification of the sandhi.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139292232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historical Jesus research has been conducted through four periods: Old Quest, Intermittent Period, New Period, and Third Period. The Third Quest, a historical Jesus study, integrates multiple disciplines to illuminate Jesus’ context, addressing issues like overemphasis on irrelevant information and undervaluing relevant data. It has expanded historical Jesus studies with a more nuanced understanding of Jesus’ life and teachings. Feminism plays a very important role in Third Quest. By studying the roles played by women in historical Jesus, we can explore Jesus’ stance on women’s liberation; This cannot be ignored.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139295258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Academic research on the medical history of women has continued to deepen, from the beginnings of exposing the general absence of women in medical texts to examining the specific problems of the female body and exploring the relationship between medicine and religion. Under the influence of current feminist theory and gender studies, as well as the discovery of various sources reflecting women’s consciousness, scholars have increasingly emphasized women’s feelings and their contributions to medicine and explored women’s voices in medicine.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139297675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As higher education continues to expand, master’s degrees are gradually becoming more popular in the Chinese job market. This essay will focus on the inequality in employability between Chinese students who have obtained their master’s degrees in UK universities and those who have obtained their master’s degrees in local Chinese universities. Moreover, this essay analyses the causes of this inequality by applying cultural capital theory and human capital theory, including the specific definitions, key concepts and problem analyses of the two theories. Finally, the purpose of comparing and contrasting the two theories is to explain the educational inequity of different employability resulting from the same academic qualifications.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139303790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metaphor can be seen everywhere in our daily life, serving as a bridge that leads people to the understanding of complex things. “Heart” is one of the most important visceral organs in the human body, with diverse metaphorical implication. This essay will take “heart” as an example for the contrastive study of Chinese and English metaphorical cognition of human visceral organs as heart is the most influential visceral organ and it is the most complex for cognition. The study will pay an emphasis on the aspects shared by the two languages and also the differences between them, in order to improve people’s understanding of human body metaphor.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124990354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Europe observed unimaginable act of violence in the form of war and the myth about the end of war culture has collapsed. EU became actively involved in creation of initiatives aimed at restoring peace, hosting refugees and punishing the wrongdoers. At the same time, other future potential victim states like Moldova and Georgia started to search for protection. In Jun 2022 all three states, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova applied for the fast track to European Union which became the symbol of liberal, free world where the states could be protected from Russian soft power influence. However, after the EU decision only two of three candidates were granted the fast track: Ukraine and Moldova. Georgia was given recommendations for further considerations. The article aims to explore what are the possible chances for more future tensions between Russia and Georgia who just had a war a decade ago in 2008. How probable is the aggression from Russian federation after the denial of fast track? Serious concern rises as we remember the statement of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that required withdrawal of Bucharest Summit decision on Ukraine and Georgia as future members of NATO. This 2021 December statement was followed by war in Ukraine. Does this mean we should also expect military actions in Georgia?","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123531749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, this dissertation combines the literature review approach and the life cycle assessment (LCA) method to investigate the environmental or social impact of lithium batteries for electric vehicles from cradle to grave. According to the literature review, the environmental impacts of lithium batteries include carbon dioxide and harmful electrolyte emissions, water pollution, air pollution, solid waste emissions, gaseous pollutants, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, heavy metals, organic pollutants, particulate matter and CO2 emissions. Therefore, lithium batteries for electric vehicles pose a great environmental concern. In addition, the confusion surrounding the definition of lithium batteries in LCA can pose a significant concern. The in-depth analysis reveals that there is a lack of uniform data on EV lithium batteries, a low recycling rate of lithium batteries, and a lack of waste stream management. There is no uniformity in the technology and development of lithium batteries among countries such as China, Canada, and the USA. As a result, the secondary data may only represent this region. Besides, the literature consulted covers a long period of time. There is little possibility that the negative environmental impact of earlier technology like the burning of lithium batteries in incinerators can now be improved. Moreover, lithium batteries are still in the development stage. Therefore, there is still room for potential development in the future.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129063156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The so-called indeterminacy of international law, i.e., international law often fails to give a clear answer to specific questions, the paper firstly describes the specific manifestations of this indeterminacy, and then explores the reasons for its emergence from both internal and external levels. The paper argues that the non-jurisprudential and non-binding nature of international law, as well as its profound influence by international politics, determines its indeterminacy. In addition, the ambiguity of the language of international law itself exacerbates the tendency of indeterminacy in international law.","PeriodicalId":408414,"journal":{"name":"Studies in Social Science & Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125941277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
