On the basis of the edge-core network model, we introduced the notion of flow and micro-flow, a two-layer scheduling model based on the arrival curves and service curves, and derived the upper bound on the queue length, the queue delay, the end-to-end delay/jitter, and effective bandwidth using network calculus. In this paper, some examples of a guarantee service based on the proposed framework were analyzed. Results show that the framework is highly scalable, and can be used in the designing of the communication network with QoS guarantees.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126220435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate wireless data access applications with strong consistency in mobile hotspots. Through extensive simulations, we quantify the performances of two well-known strongly consistent data access algorithms: poll-each-read (PER) and callback (CB). We develop a comprehensive simulation model that considers wireless link characteristics in mobile hotspots. Simulation results demonstrate the access-to-update ratio is an important factor to determine the performances of PER and CB. In addition, the effects of cache size, data access pattern, and wireless link bandwidth on the wireless data access algorithms are analyzed. Finally, valuable observations for performance optimizations are given.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125699712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The input data are time-series counting the number of mobile stations present in each of 126 sample routing areas at equally spaced instants (5 min) during one full week. The time-series were extracted from packet-level traces captured by passively monitoring a subset of the Gb links of the network of Mobilkom Austria AG & Co KG during October 2004. We apply the principal component analysis (PCA) to this dataset. The PCA offers a simple method for classifying the routing areas into two main groups, residential and business areas, plus a few \"atypical\" ones. Additionally, we address the problem of robustness of the PCA to temporary local gaps in the input data","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125807626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the equivalent single input single output (SISO) model, we first present the probability density function (PDF) of the instantaneous single to noise ratio (SNR) per symbol, and then derive a close-form expression for the outage probability of OSTBCs. We also evaluate the symbol error rate (SER) for MPSK and MQAM modulations in terms of moment generating function (MGF) of instantaneous SNR which is expressed in closed-form. Moreover, we show by several numerical examples the impact of Weibull fading parameter on the performance of OSTBCs.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121595181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An improved MUSIC (multiple signal classification) algorithm is proposed to estimate CFO in this paper. In contrast to conventional MUSIC schemes which require multi-dimensional search over the parameter space, a signal structure based deterministic estimation algorithm with MUSIC is proposed for estimating the CFOs of all users simultaneously in the uplink of IFDMA system, using only one IFDMA block. Diversity schemes are also presented to improve the estimation performance. The algorithm is attractive owing to the low computational complexity and exhibiting effectiveness in frequency selective channels. The performance of the proposed scheme is confirmed by computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134332806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it suffers from the phenomenon of error propagation (EP). This paper considers the use of soft decisions in mitigating EP in a DFE. An optimized soft decision algorithm using the hyperbolic tangent function in the decision device is proposed to improve performance over reducing EP. Furthermore, in order to speed up the EP simulation process, a simple but effective modification is made in the feedback tap weight updating process. Computer simulation results show that the proposed soft decision algorithm nearly meets the ideal DFE (i.e., without erroneous decision) performance, which is far better in performance when compared to the erasure algorithm.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128954216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This algorithm can approach ML performance in polynomial complexity. Special zero correlation window property of LS code can reduce complexity of this algorithm greatly. Simulation indicates it is more insensitive to the choice of initial radius. Thus, by making the choice of radius sufficiently large, the ML solution is guaranteed with low complexity, even for large constellations. We then extend this joint detection algorithm to MIMO case and compare it with MMSE, ZF multicode detectors. Numerical results show performance of this algorithm is good even at very high speed such as 160 Km/h, this give us some insights on developing high efficient practical joint detection algorithm for further LAS-CDMA system.","PeriodicalId":408368,"journal":{"name":"2006 First International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131251811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
