Poor understanding of depositional settings, stratigraphic context, lithofacies, reservoir geometry, reservoir quality, and heterogeneity are some of the difficulties encountered in developing these shallow reservoirs. In this study, these challenges were circumvented by performing reservoir architecture and quality analysis. This was achieved by integrating the interpretation from the cores, well logs, petrographic and petrophysical analyses for depositional model generation, lithofacies description, as well as reservoir geometry, continuity, and quality determination. Five lithofacies were identified in Group-B, namely: laminated mudstone (ML), bioturbated mudstone (MB), heterolithic mud dominated (MH), heterolithic sand dominated (SH), and bioturbated sandstone (SB). The sediments encountered in ML and SB lithofacies consist of moderate to good reservoir quality, while for SH and MH, they ranged from high to low quality. This study provides a better insight to the shallow reservoir heterogeneity in MS-field and the results obtained could also be applied to the other similar shallow reservoirs for characterization and modelling improvement processes.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132723680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenge with the straight-line depreciation method used to depreciate an asset was, it does not take into consideration the time value of money. Over time, the value of money changes. The amount recovered after the depreciation period is usually less than the future value of the asset. This is because the value of money today is not the same as the value of money tomorrow. Hence, there was the need to incorporate the time value of money into the straight-line depreciation model. This research considered the incorporation of the time value of money into the depreciation equation. The conventional straight-line depreciation equation was modified by incorporating the time value concept of money into the equation. A petroleum economic model was developed using a spreadsheet approach. The model was used to evaluate the impact of the modified straight-line depreciation model on the profitability of petroleum investments. Two petroleum investment scenarios were considered. Scenario 1 had the conventional depreciation model. Scenario 2 had the modified depreciation model for comparative analysis. The effect of the conventional and modified depreciation model on the profitability of the investment was evaluated. The NCF of the contractor for Scenarios 1 and 2 when the oil price was $50/bbl was $214 MM and $317 MM respectively. While the NCF of the host government for Scenarios 1 and 2 when the oil price was $50/bbl were $627 MM and $524 MM respectively. It was observed that the incorporation of the time value of money into the depreciation equation increased the NCF of the contractor. This allowed the contractor to mitigate the effect of risk associated with the value of the asset over time due to inflation. The modified depreciation model made the petroleum fiscal arrangement more attractive.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116311120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comparative analysis is employed to assess the estimation, sizing, and cost-benefit analysis of an integrated renewable energy system for the XX residential building in Kano, Nigeria, in comparison to uneconomical electricity tariffs. Kano, a rapidly developing city and commercial hub, has the largest population in northern Nigeria, with over 15 million residents. The data used in this study, including market information and item costs, were obtained from an e-commerce trading company and renewable energy experts with research and field experience.\u0000 This research opens doors to identify the costs associated with installing solar energy systems in homes, thereby creating opportunities for oceanic growth. The study systematically enhances social productivity by providing uninterrupted backup power from an integrated renewable energy system. Economically, as discussed in the analysis, the costs of solar installation and maintenance are lower than the annual expenses incurred through electricity tariffs. However, it is important to note limitations within this study, such as the variability of primary and secondary data sources based on location and the projected costs of items used in the estimation and sizing analysis, which may differ across countries. Additionally, the costs of solar installation in homes are influenced by the types of loads, necessitating a comprehensive system analysis of both critical and non-critical loads to assess the economic viability and benefits of adopting an integrated renewable energy system to address the energy crisis.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124019876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several problems in natural gas plants ranging from hydrate formation, condensate carryover to customer's facility, low equipment availability and so on. All the problems enumerated were due to inability of some units of the plant not linked online nor on Realtime basis. To solve these problems requires the use of transmitter to route process parameters in the respective plant units to the control room and display such parameters for online monitoring. As such, there are two basic options. Either the use of wired transmitters or wireless transmitters. Both technologies are great but considering the prevailing circumstances of an existing old gas plant in Niger Delta region, the cost of excavation to lay fresh signal cable will be relatively high. Hence, the choice of wireless transmitters was chosen. The methodology involved using literature review and case study of existing metering station gas plant in Niger Delta. The literature reviewed involved wired sensors network, wireless sensor network, and application of wireless sensor network. There was also comparison between wired fieldbuses, wireless network technologies and wired versus wireless fieldbuses. Matlab software was used to design wireless sensor network. The Matlab code was written such that it can read data from Microsoft Excel sheet into the program for analysis and simulation. K-means algorithm was used to cluster the sensor nodes data and determine the centroids of the clusters. The program when run will create sink node matrix, concatenate the cluster centroid, and sink matrices. The results of the software simulation and discussion show that the proposed wireless sensor network if implemented will solve the identified problems and therefore, enhanced the operations of the gas plant in the metering station.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"746 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116097254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They find useful applications in the petroleum and petrochemical industry for production of high octane-petrol, jet, diesel and boiler fuels as well as in production of aromatics, olefins and other monomers used in the production of plastics, synthetic rubbers, resins and fibers. This research paper focused on modelling the process involved in obtaining natural gas condensates from raw natural gas in a cryogenic plant. Stationary-state process data were obtained from a natural gas processing facility in southern Nigeria. The data were pre-processed, five inputs and three output variables were then carefully chosen and arranged in cell arrays in Microsoft Excel before being incorporated into a written MATLAB m-file script, which was ran to generate time-series input-output datasets in Microsoft Excel via a developed Simulink transfer function model. The generated chaotic time series dataset was then fed into the neural network graphical user interface of MATLAB R2021a software and optimized using Levenberg Marquardt, Bayelsian regularization and conjugate gradient algorithms respectively to develop neural network models that represented the production process. Two key indices, namely the mean squared error (MSE) and regression value were used to evaluate the level of accuracy of the developed neural network models. The results obtained revealed that the neural network models developed could effectively capture the underlying trend in the time-series dataset with the Levenberg-Marguardt optimized-neural network having a faster convergence time of 10 seconds, higher regression value of 0.999 and lower MSE value of 0.0489.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122812952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In line with the COP 26 agreements and the Net Zero timeline, Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from power generation for offshore oil and gas platforms is one aspect that is key to the long-term decarbonisation of the North Sea.\u0000 In this paper the Sustainability Assessment approach of Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is used to analyse electrification options on a case study offshore oil and gas production platform in the North Sea by considering Technical, Economic and Environmental criteria. These sustainability indicator criteria are then evaluated using Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) to normalise decision making in the ranking process of electrification options.\u0000 The results show that decarbonisation of the offshore oil and gas platforms can be achieved by using the sustainability assessment approach to determine the best electrification option available to any offshore production platform.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"492 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131419394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a field depletes, water cut increases and oil rates decline. To maintain production, there is need to deploy artificial lift systems. The onshore FENE field is a matured Niger Delta field that has been in production for over 50 years. The field has wells that produces on natural flow and on gas lift. To improve field production, often requires optimization of the limited lift gas available to the gas lifted wells.\u0000 Foam Assisted gas lift (FAGL) technology involves the downhole injection of a liquid foamer to lighten the fluid column and reduce slippage, thus improving well vertical lift performance. The foamer can be delivered downhole via a pre-installed downhole chemical injection line where available or into a lift gas stream on surface. The application is expected to increase oil production and / or decrease gas lift requirement.\u0000 In Nigeria, a field trial was successfully carried out on two wells (Well-X and Well-Y) with water cuts greater than 60% in the onshore FENE field. The foaming agent was injected along with the lift gas via the A annulus of the wells. The field trial resulted in 280 bopd incremental net oil gain and a cumulative gain of 2510 bbls of oil for well-X and 120 bopd net oil gain and a cumulative gain of 832 bbls of oil for well-Y over the trial period of 9 and 7 days for well-X and well-Y respectively. There was also a significant reduction of water cut from an average of 76% to 66% and an estimated 25 - 35% savings in lift gas consumption. Sand production, while unavoidable in highly permeable reservoirs like in the Niger Delta basins, is deleterious to both downhole completion and surface hydrocarbon production and treatment systems, as with the candidate wells in the Field X. Sanding in these candidate wells required sand management being a daily routine alongside daily hydrocarbon production throughout the life of the wells until it became unmanageable and costlier, resulting in most of the wells being shut in, thus causing significant production deferment and loss of revenue\u0000 An immediate need for a safe, cost-effective, and timely Sand Exclusion Solution was required to improve and restore production with minimum allowable/manageable sand production from the wells. To find the optimum approach to address the sand production issues, a variety of alternatives were considered, including well recompletion workover, in-situ sand consolidation, internal gravel packing, and rigless Thru-Tubing Sand Screen Hang Off, to restore completion integrity. Following several review meetings, Thru-Tubing Sand Screen Hang-off was chosen as the safest, time and cost-effective choice because of its minimal equipment spread, properly sized sand screens and in-house knowledge to for successful installation. However, intervening the candidate wells with minimal equipment spread required thorough subsurface studies, well engineering, and reservoir simulations (Nodal Analysis), to tailor the solutions to what the wells required.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124904397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Before the passage of the PIA 2021, marginal fields were operating using a separate fiscal arrangement that gave them special consideration. But the passage of the PIA 2021, made them operate like other fields depending on the terrain. The fiscal arrangement that governs marginal field investments is embedded in the PIA 2021. It offers marginal field operators dynamic fiscal terms that may increase their chances of survival during periods of low oil prices. This research considered the evaluation of the profitability of marginal field investments in Nigeria using the fiscal provisions in the PIA 2021. Investment in a typical marginal field in Nigeria was modeled using Excel. The fiscal terms in the PIA 2021 for marginal field investments were embedded into the economic model. The profitability of the marginal field investment was evaluated using profitability indicators such as net cash flow, net present value, government take, and internal rate of return. When the oil price was $80/bbl, the contractor's take was higher than the host government take. The contractor's and host government take when the oil price was $80/bbl were 52.40% and 47.60% respectively. While the contractor's and host government NCF when the oil price was $80/bbl were $247.52 MM and $224.816 MM respectively. A base model was built to verify the possibility of liquid loading behavior using the Turner velocity criteria. Foam lift was enabled and the well flow path was defined including the micro-annular space between the coiled tubing and the tubing strings. Different Surfactant concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.35, 0.4, 0.45 and 0.5mass percent were injected for an optimum concentration required to unload liquid from the gas well. Results reveals that the reservoir will deliver 13.315MMscf/day of gas across the completion into the wellbore when the pressure drawdown is maximum.The intersection of the inflow and outflow performance curves shows that the well was producing 2.09787 MMscf/day of gas which occurs where the Turner velocity criteria shows a potential issue (liquid loading). A gas production rate of 2.09787 MMscf/day was produced with no foam lift but with foam lift and 0.05mass% of surfactant injected, the well production rate increases from 2.09787 MMscf/day to 7.60823MMscf/day. The result shows that a surfactant mass percent of about 0.4% will maximize gas production from the well producing 7.71049MMscf/day. Results reveal that surfactant should not be injected at concentration above the critical micelles concentration (CMC) as it will lead to a significant increase in the frictional component of the fluid pressure loss due to the rheology of the foam.","PeriodicalId":407977,"journal":{"name":"Day 3 Wed, August 02, 2023","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122297880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
