The current belief is that the load is distributed along the mechanical axis, which is generally medial to the centre of the knee. Osteotomies to change the mechanical axis has been long described as a treatment of medial compartment OA, and proximal fibular osteotomy being the recent addition. The authors aimed to evaluate the change in radiological parameters of the knee alignment and asses its statistical significance. It is a hospital based prospective pre and post interventional study done at New Hospital Medical College Kota. The Sample size was calculated to be 34 subjects at α-error 0.05 and study power 80%. Radiological parameters were assessed in terms of Femorotibial angle, Mechanical axis deviation and Lateral joint space under standard magnification. Radiological parameters depicting the change in knee alignment were found to be statistically significant. Also, it correlates well with that described in other established studies.","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128768599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Obliteration of the native acetabulum, soft tissue contractures, loss of femoral head congruity and associated hip fractures make this condition challenging to treat. We discuss a case of a middle-aged male presenting to us with pain, shortening and inability to bear weight on left lower limb for last 15 years. Clinical examination revealed an adduction deformity over the left hip, a globular swelling in the left gluteal region and a fixed equinus deformity over left ankle. Movements at the left hip hinted at restricted internal rotation and flexion. Pelvis radiographs revealed a neglected posterior hip dislocation with ipsilateral femur neck non union. Patient underwent initial upper tibial traction for 8 weeks followed by a hybrid Total Hip Arthroplasty. Postoperatively intensive physiotherapy was continued and with correction of the ankle equinus patient was able to ambulate. On five years follow-up, the patient was mobilizing independently, pain-free with a mild short limb gait and some residual foot drop.Treatment of neglected hip fracture dislocation can be challenging. Associated economic restraints may hinder clinicians from higher imaging and make the treatment even difficult. However, an anatomical reconstruction of hip by a total hip arthroplasty has yielded good functional outcomes in long standing neglected dislocations.’","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115968180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Factors like asymmetry of vestibular function, decreased plantar sensation, unstable posture and functional disability have been more commonly associated with fall related wrist fractures among the geriatric population. Since wrist fractures are considered as an indicator for fracture incidence in the future specially for hip fractures, preventive measures like improving balance, function of the balance system in the inner ear and feeling in people’s feet can be timely adopted which in addition might be helpful in rehabilitation of patients with fractured wrist.To determine effect of multi sensory training (MST) on posture (muscle strength), vestibular function, vibration perception, tactile sensation and functional ability compared to wrist stabilization training (WT) among elderly with fall related wrist fractures.Experimental research design was adopted for the study among the 130 follow up cases of wrist fracture where 88 participants were randomized to Multi Sensory Training and 42 received Wrist stabilization Training. The training period was 12 weeks, with 4 supervised sessions by a physiotherapist and home exercises for both groups. Pre and post training measurements included Head Shake Test (HST), Semmes–Weinstein Monofilaments (SWM), Vibration perception Test, 10m Walk Test (10MWT), Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSTS), Activities Specific Balance Confidence (ABC) and Dizziness Handicap Inventory Scales (DHI). FTSTS, ABC, DHI were found to be statistically significant between the 2 groups. In contrast to wrist stabilization training, MST was more helpful in improving HST (p=0.001). Vestibular function among the cases of wrist fracture was better with Multi Sensory Training. It may be applied as a routine training intervention post fracture treatment. A robust sample size can be taken up to generalize its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117180036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a case report of 28-year-old male who complaints of swelling over proximal end of radius associated with pain for a duration of 1 year. The patient was successfully treated with open biopsy followed curettage and intralesional methyl prednisolone injection using Boyd’s approach. Histopathology reported the lesion as eosinophilic granuloma. Patient was followed up in our outpatient department and found to be symptom free with evidence of resolution of tumour. This case study adds to the current understanding and treatment of eosinophilic granuloma. Eosinophilic granuloma is always a diagnostic challenge for the surgeon. Clinical findings and investigations are usually non-specific. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry still remains the mainstay in diagnosis of EG. Always suspect it, lest you will miss it.","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114585659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pain management is an important consideration in Orthopaedic department. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of Nefopam hydrochloride and Tramadol hydrochloride in postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing long bone fracture fixations.Triple blindedRandomization and allocation to study groups were carried out by odd and even number method. The study was conducted in tertiary care center from May 2019 till March 2020.184 patients who underwent Orthopaedic surgery were included in this randomized study. 92 patients were placed each in group-A and B. Patients in group-A received Tramadol hydrochloride and in group-B received Nefopam hydrochloride. The primary outcome measures were pain intensity assessed by using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) Score, Verbal Rating Scale (VRS) score whereas the secondary outcome measures included side effects related to the drugs and number of patients who required rescue analgesia. Unpaired t-test and Chi-square test was used to carry out all the data analysis. The pain intensity assessed on VAS score was significantly better for Tramadol group compared to Nefopam group at all time periods except at 15 minutes and a significant difference was present in verbal rating scale score between the groups only at 24 hours. Side effect profile and requirement of rescue analgesia were more in Nefopam hydrochloride group.Tramadol hydrochloride was more effective in providing post-operative pain relief in patients compared to Nefopam hydrochloride.","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125218920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to know the rate of wound infection, number of days required for making the wound fit for skin cover procedures, number of days required for formation of uniform granulation tissue bed in the wound healing treated by Vacuum Assisted Closure after primary fixation of fracture.Patients between 18 to 60 years were included in this prospective randomized controlled trial. Primary internal Fixation of fracture was done as soon as possible followed by VAC application. Functional outcome of cases recorded during each follow up according to Johner and Wruh’s (1983).According to this study, 30 patients with open fractures of both bone leg after primary internal fixation with VAC application. During follow up effective decrease (mean ± SD) in wound size after VAC therapy was 9.97±9.59 cm2 with P-value 0.0481. This technique has resulted in the effective decrease in wound size, infection and give a better functional outcome.The greatest advantage of VAC was found to facilitate rapid formation of granulation tissue on wounds with exposed tendons, bones, raw area wounds and exposed implants hence decrease healing time and minimize soft tissue defect coverage procedures.","PeriodicalId":407871,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125491845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
