Workers suffered from different health problems due to extensive workload, inadequate personal protective equipment and poor or non-existent of health facilities in the workplace. Methods: A cross-sectional study was done to determine the subjective health complaints 180 among the garments workers of two garments factories in Dhaka. ‘Subjective Health Complaints Inventory’ (SHCs) scale was used to construct the questionnaire for interviewing the workers. Results: The garments workers mean age was 27.0±5.7 years and mean working hour’s55.4±6.3per week. The prevalence of SHCs was gastrointestinal problems (89.4%), flu (63.9%), musculoskeletal pain (56.7%), pseudo-neurology problems (41.1%) and allergy (33.3%). The significant subscale of SHCs prevalence was cold flu (59.1%) in flu, leg pain (27.5%) in musculoskeletal pain, heat flushes (23.0%) in pseudo-neurological problems, gas discomfort (53.4%) in gastrointestinal problems and allergies (28.3%) in allergy. Majority of the worker’s (85.0%) health conditions were good. Statistically significant association found coughing with the age; and gas discomfort and allergies (p<0.05) were significant with the gender of the workers. Conclusion: This study reveals that the majorities of the workers’ health condition was good and cough, gas discomfort and allergies being the most prevalent health issues. The garments authorities and policymakers indeed develop primary healthcare services in their garments by establishing health facilities in order to improve the health state of workers.","PeriodicalId":407803,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133149616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are a lot of different ways that the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be torn. The most common are low-speed, non-contact, deceleration, and contact injuries with a rotational component. Contact sports can also cause twisting, valgus stress, or hyperextension from direct contact or collision-related ACL secondary injuries. The pivot is one of these injuries. The shift test for anterolateral stability of the knee It is a painful test, so most of the patients will not cooperate if not under anesthesia. Objective: This study evaluates the angle of displacement of the tibia in relation to the femur at 30-degree knee flexion, knee extension, and the difference between knee flexion and knee extension. It also determined the angular estimation as outlined above after reconstruction. To compare the angular displacement in the pivot shift before and after reconstruction in an ACL-deficient knee. Methods: This study was conducted in the department of orthopedics, arthroscopy, and sports medicine at Aware Global Hospital, Hyderabad, India. The study was initiated from January 2015 to March 2015. Through inclusion criteria, 15 patients with knee instability were included in the study. Results: After completing the pivot shift test using spinal anesthesia, the knee was flexed to 30 degrees. Three K-wires are placed in three key locations. Compared to the affected knee, the angular displacement in flexed and extended knees is a more reliable and sensitive method for screening anterior instability of the knee due to ACL tear. It is also a low-cost method when specialized medical diagnostic tests are not available. Compared to MRI, it is a dynamic modality and has proven to be just as reliable in diagnosing ACL injuries.","PeriodicalId":407803,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129321418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Standard practice in eclampsia is urgent control of convulsions and prevention of its recurrence with the help of a suitable anticonvulsant, prompt initiation of general and obstetric care and control of hypertension if needed. Methodology: This prospective cross-sectional analytic study was conducted in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) eclampsia unit during August 2004 to January 2005 in order to determine whether 8 g of magnesium sulphate heptahydrate is sufficient in controlling convulsion and preventing recurrences in lighter Bangladeshi women instead of 10 g of magnesium sulphate (MgSO4) as loading dose that is now being used. One hundred consecutive eclamptic patients who were eligible for magnesium sulphate therapy were assigned by lottery to receive either 8 g of magnesium sulphate heptahydrate (MgSO4. 7H₂O) (group A) or 10 g of magnesium sulphate (group B). The two groups were well-balanced and comparable on important characteristics. Result: The results show that there was no significant difference between the two groups with respect to recurrent convulsion, time needed to regain consciousness and maternal and perinatal morbidities and mortalities. Conclusion: The results reveal that 8 g magnesium sulphate heptahydrate is as effective as 10 g MgSO4 (as loading dose) in management of eclamptic convulsion of Bangladeshi women. If 8 g of magnesium sulphate heptahydrate can be used, it will be more economic, painful intramuscular injections will be avoided and the risk of toxicity will be reduced","PeriodicalId":407803,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127026819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cardiac troponin-I elevation is associated with adverse outcomes in cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular disease. There is a lack of data regarding the role of troponin-I on the assessment and COVID-19 stage classification and stratification. Objective: The study was aimed to estimate prevalence of troponin-I among hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Methods: This cross sectional descriptive type of observational study was carried out at COVID-19 isolation unit of Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital during the period of six months from April 2021 to September 2021. Data were collected from purposively selected 204 patients with COVID-19 from patient files and EMR. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 21.0. Results: The study results revealed that mean age of the patients with COVID-19 was 57.97 years with a standard deviation of 15.78 years. Majority of them (121, 59.3%) were female and the remaining (83, 40.7%) were male. Proportion of comorbidities were estimated and found that each 115 (56.4%) patients were hypertensive and diabetic. Thirty five (16.2%) had ischemic heart disease; 3 (1.5%) had congestive cardiac failure and 2 (1.0%) had asthma. Only 1 (0.5%) patent has atrial fibrillation. Minimum level of troponin-I was 0.01 ng/ml and the maximum level was 21.70 ng/ml with a range of 21.69 ng/ml. Mean troponin-I of patients with COVID-19 was 0.38±1.78 ng/ml. Estimated prevalence of elevated troponin-I was 39.1%. Level of troponin-I in patients of different age group was compared and Chi-square test showed no significant difference (p>0.05). Elevation of troponin-I in both sex was compared and again Chi-square test showed no significant difference (p>0.05). Elevation of troponin-I was significantly higher on those who were detected by RT-PCR than those who were detected by rapid antigen test (p=0.048).Conclusion: Though the pattern of elevation of troponin-I was found similar in younger and older patients and in males and females, a significant number of patients with COVID-19 (65/204, 39.1%) had elevated troponin-I which should be addressed to evaluate and manage patients with COVID-19 more efficiently.","PeriodicalId":407803,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124558219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No established curative treatment for this disease is yet invented. Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) significantly facilitates in worsening COVID 19 infections. Till now, there is no definite verification on its impact on COVID-19 infection. Objective: To evaluate the relationship amid vitamin D-deficiency and severity of COVID-19 infection and its outcome. Methods: The present case-control study was conducted at a medical college hospital, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Total 100 cases and 100 controls were enrolled. Patients categorization were formulated on the ground of severity of COVID infection clinically and Vitamin D level at admission. The relationship among these two categories with different variables was analyzed. All data were processed and analyzed by SPSS (statistical package for social science) version 25. Results: In this study the mean age was 58.46 14.50 years in COVID 19 patients (case group) and 41.96 5.66 years in control group. Majority (64%) was male and 36% was female among COVID 19 patients. Leading risk factor (64%) was DM (diabetes mellitus) followed by smoking (24%) and hypertension (16%). Significant vitamin D deficiency was seen in case group (COVID 19) than control group which was 37% and 22% respectively. Further observed, vitamin D insufficiency was also more in case group (39%) than control group (31%). However, sufficient vitamin D levels were more in control group than case group which was 47% and 24% respectively. The average vitamin D level was 24.10 11.30 in case group and 28.55 11.80 in control group which carried significant statistic value (P<0.05). Thus, Vitamin D level was significantly associated with the COVID 19 disease severity evident by 45.1 % deficiency in severe cases compared to 17.2% among the moderate cases. Conclusion: This study shows the serum level of vitamin D was lower in patients with the COVID 19. It is also found that vitamin D status is remarkably related to COVID-19 severity. Vitamin D supplementation may have a vital role in limiting the impact of this pandemic. More clinical studies are demanded to establish the relationship between COVID 19 patients and the serum level of vitamin D.","PeriodicalId":407803,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122664981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
