In Morocco, rabies is an endemic disease, with new cases of human rabies reported every year. The aim of our study is to analyze the epidemiological aspects of rabies in the province of Ouarzazate. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study using records available at the Ouarzazate Municipal Hygiene Office. It includes 1,759 cases of exposure to animal bites between 2016 and 2019. Results: We identified 1,759 cases of animal bites during the period of 4 years of study, representing an average annual exposure rate of 190/100,000 inhabitants. Most cases were rural (65%). The median age of bitten cases was 28 years, with people under 15 years of age exposed in 32% of cases. Males predominate, with 61.3% of cases. Dogs are the main animal aggressors at 47.8%, followed by cats at 33%. The upper limbs are the preferred sites of aggression (89.2%). Exposure was grade III in 76.8% of cases. Lesions were multiple in 52.1% and superficial in 62.6%. No cases of human rabies have been recorded since 2001, despite 20 cases being exposed to a biologically confirmed rabid animal during our study. Conclusion: Rabies remains a public health concern in the province of Ouarzazate, despite the presence of a national rabies control program. Effective control of this zoonosis requires strengthening education and community engagement, as well as close collaboration between animal health and human health sectors for integrated management of bite cases.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":" 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141368272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is associated with specific risk factors, which can be acquired and genetic. There are various precursor lesions of this condition, which warrants detection by proper screening methods to aid in earlier diagnosis and thereby treat these conditions to prevent their progression to well established adenocarcinoma. There are Several Histo-pathological mimickers which simulate Adenocarcinoma, that need to be differentiated by proper clinicopathological evaluation, so the correct diagnosis is made, which helps in overall management of patient. This study is an attempt to describe various precursor lesions of Endometrial Adenocarcinoma and also the differentiation of Pathological conditions that are the look alike of Endometrial Adenocarcinoma. In addition various clinicopathological methods will be described which help to arrive at proper diagnosis. Risk categories for Endometrial carcinoma will be identified which helps in early diagnosis of Disease.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"1‐83 S1‐16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141376843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The validation of sample stability through pneumatic tube system (PTS) is essential. The use of Pneumatic Tube System can improve specimen turnaround time; allowing more effective time management of the porters by reducing the need to physically take specimens from one department to another. Prior to use, the Pneumatic tube system must be validated to ensure the reliability of laboratory test results, particularly those impacted by movement, such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), potassium (K+), complete blood count (CBC), particularly hemoglobin and coagulation tests. The most common way of validating pneumatic tube systems is to compare blood samples transported by pneumatic tube systems to blood samples transported by hand. High speeds and rapid acceleration of blood samples can increase the risk of hemolysis and negatively affect sample quality and test results. Moreover, the installation and design of each pneumatic tube system exhibit unique characteristics that are exclusive to each individual institution. The established protocol necessitated the use of either a human courier or pneumatic tube technology in order to transport a collection of replicated samples to the laboratory. Comparative research will be conducted on a sample size of twenty healthy adult volunteers to assess the integrity of the sample. The main objective of our study was to evaluate the effects of PTS transportation on laboratory results and whether is there any difference as compared to hand courier method.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"53 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139167521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

G6PD deficiency is one of the most common enzymopathies in humans, affecting an estimated 400 million individuals worldwide. The main objective of our study is to Compare diagnostic accuracy of screening qualitative G6PDH assay with standard quantitative assay. Methodology and Results: This is 2 years study comprising 250 confirmed cases of G6PD deficiency by UDILIPSE G6PD quantitative assay. Of which 210 were boys and 40 were girls. 40 cases were reported as false Normal by G6PDH screening assay in boys and 28 in girls. Discussion: Our results were comparable to studies conducted by Mohammed islam, Daae LN et al., Bancone G et al., Kahn M et al., Conclusion: It can be safely concluded that male patients with suspected G6PD deficiency can be screened for G6PDH assay and if tests are indeterminate then can be proceed to quantitative assay. For female patients it is recommended to omit screening test and can directly perform quantitative G6PDH assay in order not to miss G6PD deficient carriers.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"575 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139171890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is common in the head and neck region but rare in the oral cavity. Most of these lesions are asymptomatic but sometimes may be associated with pain and paraesthesia. Neurofibromas with atypical features are quite rare and only a few cases are reported in literature. Here is a case of a female patient presented with pain and swelling in the anterior maxilla, which was clinically diagnosed as a periapical cyst. Radiographic evaluation of the lesion revealed dilated incisive canal and a Nasopalatine duct cyst was suspected. The patient was advised to take antibiotics for one week. The symptoms were sustained in the follow-up visit and an incision biopsy was made. Microscopic examination revealed pleomorphic spindled and round cells. Immunohistochemistry was performed to identify the origin of these pleomorphic cells. Based on the histopathological examination, special staining, and immunohistochemistry, we concluded the diagnosis as neurofibroma with atypical features. The current case emphasizes the significance of clinical, radiological, histopathological, and immunohistochemical evaluation of oral lesions. The presence of atypical features in Neurofibroma must be considered cautiously as as it is more prone to progress into Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST).","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"600 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139177205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Esophageal PFM is exceptionally rare. We describe a case of a mid-20s woman with respiratory and swallowing difficulties, revealing a 105x65 mm upper thoracic esophageal submucosal tumor during endoscopy. Biopsy lacked histological evidence of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Post-tumor removal histopathology showed a spindle tumor with plexiform architecture and myxoid-vascular stroma. Immunohistochemistry revealed vimentin and alpha-smooth muscle actin expression, while desmin, c-kit, DOG1, and CD34 were absent, confirming PFM. No recurrence or metastasis appeared during a 6-month follow-up. This case underscores the extreme rarity of esophageal PFM, emphasizing the need for precise diagnostic tools to navigate challenging differential diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139268957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are three main types of VWD that differ according to the degree of disease severity and inheritance pattern (Type 1, Type 2A, 2B, 2M, 2N and Type 3). Methodology: This is 05 years study (Feb 2016–Jan 2021) conducted in hematology section. In present study, amongst total inherited bleeding disorders, Incidence of VWD is 27%, Hemophilia (50%), inherited platelet disorders (14%) and remainder are undiagnosed. Amongst VWD, Type 1 VWD is the most common subtype studied, comprising 66% of total cases. Type 2 & 3 VWD comprised 23% and 10% of total cases showing good correlation with the literature and other studies. Discussion: The European cross-sectional study yielded a population-based estimate of 0.05 per 100,000 for type 3 VWD. Estimates by VWD type from Europe and Western Pacific reported higher prevalence estimates for type 1 disease than type 2 or type 3: 2.7–7.2 per 100,000 for type 1 VWD, 0.8–2.5 per 100,000 for type 2, and 0.1–0.3 per 100,000 for type 3. Conclusion: VWD usually presents with mild bleeding symptoms (except in type 3 VWD) the diagnosis is often delayed. Prompt diagnosis and management can help to avoid potentially life-threatening bleeding events and unnecessary exposure to blood products.","PeriodicalId":407259,"journal":{"name":"Saudi Journal of Pathology and Microbiology","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139281575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
