Therefore, it is so necessary to undergo frequent monitoring of the protozoan biodiversity in fresh water to avoid epidemic diseases. Accordingly, this work aims to isolate and identify the expected protozoan species in water samples collected from the River Nile and taps at four sites in Dakahlia Governorate. Water samples were collected using the concentration technique, followed by modified Ziel-Neelsen stain and Giemsa staining methods for detecting protozoan species using bright light and phase-contrast microscopy. 12 protozoan species belonging to the subphylum Sarcodina, Masigophora, and Cilliophora were recorded. Moreover, examination of water samples revealed that drinking water was contaminated by six species of protozoa. A description of the locomotive and cyst stages is carried out for most of the detected protozoa. Conclusion: This study proved that drinking water must be carefully analyzed to avoid the presence or growth of protozoa","PeriodicalId":406966,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical and Life Science","volume":"54 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141235491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic role of Annona muricata extract (AME) against the testicular damage induced by doxorubicin in male rats. Material &methods: Thirty-two male adult albino rats were used in this study. The rats were divided into four groups (n = 8): the control group, the AME-supplemented group (100 mg/kg b.wt. daily for consecutive 28 days), the DOX-treated group (2 mg/kg twice a week for 4 weeks), and the DOX-treated group that was supplemented with AME. Results : Treatment of male rats with DOX showed a remarkable increase in the levels of serum pro-inflammatory markers, decreased sexual hormones, and decreased testicular antioxidant activities. The treatment of DOX-injected rats with ASE revealed a pronounced return to normalcy of the oxidative stress markers, as evidenced by a remarkable decrease in the testicular MDA and an improvement of SOD, CAT, and GSH activities. On the other hand, the rats administered DOX and AME had considerably decreased serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 and improved serum FSH, LH, and testosterone levels. AME successfully restored the testicular histopathological signs induced by DOX through amelioration of the architecture of disrupted seminiferous tubules with AME. Conclusion: Annon muricata extract has a potential alleviation role against DOX-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in the testicular tissues.","PeriodicalId":406966,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical and Life Science","volume":"6 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141235465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this study focused on using the third-instar larvae of Culex pipiens as bioindicators of metal pollution in two Burullus Lake sites: Al-Bughaz (site 1, reference) and the front of Drain 7 (site 2, polluted). The water physicochemical analysis confirmed site 2's higher pollution levels. Metal concentrations in water and larval midgut tissues from site 2 were significantly higher than in site 1. All biochemical parameters estimated in site 2's larval midgut tissues showed greater impacts compared to site 1. Concentration levels of malondialdehyde and metallothionein along with expression level of heat shock protein 70 were notably higher in site 2's larvae. Antioxidant biological markers, like reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, as well as cytochrome P450 activity decreased significantly in site 2's larvae compared to the reference larvae from site 1. Analysis of DNA damage parameters in the midgut cells of site 2's larvae revealed significant rises in tail DNA%, tail length, and tail moment. DNA damage was increased in site 2's larvae due to migration of DNA fragments. Ultrastructure observations of site 2's larvae revealed structural alterations along the epithelial cells of midgut tissue like destroyed microvilli, an irregular nuclear envelope, vacuolated cytoplasm, increasing lysosomal bodies, disintegrated mitochondria, and the appearance of spherites and dense vesicles. In conclusion, C. pipiens larvae are reliable bioindicators for metal pollution in aquatic environments due to their sensitivity to metal bioaccumulation.","PeriodicalId":406966,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical and Life Science","volume":"86 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141231247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be detected by over-deposition of diffuse ECM (Extracellular Matrix) and abnormal overgrowth of connective tissue, and it can progress to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Chronic liver diseases, which include liver fibrosis, have resulted in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, and this trend is likely to continue. Although early liver fibrosis has been reported to be reversible, the exact mechanism of reversal is unidentified, and there is a lack of effective therapy for liver fibrosis. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining the metabolism of bone and calcium balance. Unexpectedly new evidence indicates that vitamin D has a protective function toward hepatic fibrosis. Telmisartan has been shown to have a positive effect on hepatic fibrosis markers in various pathological contexts. This review focused on summarizing the effect of vitamin D and telmisartan on the progression of hepatic fibrosis and updating their present impact on fibrosis. Telmisartan and vitamin D reduce fibrosis in hepatic stellate cells by inhibiting the production of profibrogenic genes.","PeriodicalId":406966,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical and Life Science","volume":"63 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141231386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
